I like that your fearless about cutting off roots. I watch others who who save every last root even if it’s squished in the pot. I’m with you. I’m a cutter of the long wild or bushy roots.

Hi Jeff! I had a succulent plant which was called a Texas rose or something like that. Anyway it gets leggy and you're suppos3d to cut the top off to promote new growth. I'd never done it and I was terrified! I found a video with a professional looking set-up. The guy reaches off camera, grabs a MACHETE and whack! They don't fool around in Texas! Anyway, I did it and after that I chopped away. One time my sister brought me a succulent that was a bit etoliated. She stays overnight, comes out for breakfast and I'd already beheaded it! 😊
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants Год назад
Haha....thanks for the laugh 😂 Just pulls out a machete. I'll have to use something like that, perhaps an axe 🪓, in a future video

I'm late catching this video but it is perfect timing for me. I have a mojito that has outgrown its plank and is much more full at the top and I was just thinking that I wanted to cut it but wasn't sure what I was going to do. Now I know!
@EverythingPlants

Yes, you can simply air layer it. Mine lost the lowest leaf but it's starting to push out some new growth

Great tips on pruning back for better growth. What type of syngonium (tall one on a plank) is that, that you pruned & repotted? I really love the older leaf structure.

I have a philo silver sword I need to try this with because it has become very leggy and not liking the look. But I cut the top off a rubber plant and nothing happened to the stump. So I was hesitant to do the same to my silver sword. If nothing happens at least I will have the top of the plant to re-plant
@EverythingPlants

When you do this make sure the plant gets bright light! Especially your rubber plant.....

@markmullinsii7026
@markmullinsii7026 Год назад
when you only have a stem left how long does it take to see new growth? i had a situation with my golden pothos a little more than a week ago, and ended up with just the stem and a bunch of cuttings to propagate. my cuttings have little roots now but the stem hasn't shown anything.
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants Год назад
Depending on the amount of light it gets....should be a couple weeks. The lower the light a plant gets the slower it grows

Can you air layer a leggy palm. I have rehabbed one from granddaughter but tall and top heavy?
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants Год назад
I don't think so ...they would need nodes like that syngonium. I haven't done it before but I'd say it would be similar to the birds of paradise.....cut all the leaves off and it would grow back. They would also spread by rhizomes.

@@EverythingPlants so sad. I freaking love mine - just something about the dark leaves and maroon backs. Don’t know how the leaf might change if it were to climb a plank, but it look great on my wall. Might replace my adansonii.. I’m not really feeling it.
