From 300 engine hours of working on the bike, taking the seat on and off I wore the brass threads out so much that the bolt would just push into it. After researching some options this is the system I used to insert a new thread.

I've used these helicoils to fix alot of customer stripped out bolts on mountain bikes when I worked at pinnacle sports. M6x1 is very common, 5mm Allen head bolts and 8mm nut head bolts. They are a like saver, loctight is not needed, ive never seen one back out. This will fix any stripped engine case bolts, exhaust studs on older bikes too. Also sparkplug holes can be fixed with a bigger special tread just for 2 and 4 stroke sizes.

the reason you couldnt back it off was becouse when you thread it in, you are compressing the "coil/spring". When you tried to unthread it, it expanded inside the hole. It's one time operation :). To take it out you catch just the end of "coil" and pull it.

haha gotta learn the hard way. guess its promising to see it doesn't just unthread out meaning it should stay in there really well. guess I could have drilled It out if I really jacked its up

Man, this video was exactly what I need for the same problem on the FE250. Embarrassingly, I could feel confident I knew the right size. Now I do. RU-vid!!!

Dude! The music in your vid tells the story!!!🤘It's happy when things are going well then dark and moody when you're jacking up the heli coil.

Time sert for blind holes and heli coil for regular ones is usually what I do depending. You don't need loctite it won't thread out as you found and when you break the tab it locks it in. I have quite an assortment of different kinds, try to get quality coils it makes a difference. Heli coils usually are stronger than original threads sometimes people purposely use a heli coil to strengthen threads.

When drilling brass, SAFETY GLASSES, the shards fly a good distance. Be careful, getting metal scraped off your eye ball really really sucks, and magnets dont work so the doctors tools are near useless.
