How to fix a video converted and compressed through VLC Media Player that has video but NO audio 

Click the settings button next to the profile (conversion type), click the "Audio codec" tab change the "Sample Rate" to 480000Hz; save and convert. For those who don't have time to watch the entire 11 minute video.

For some odd reason, no matter what I do, no matter if I change the sample rate to the correct number, I can't for the life of me get this video of mine to retain its audio after being converted from .mkv format to .mp4.

Long video for simply "the original audio sample rate may not match with what you're trying to convert to" Thanks anyway, it helped me out ^_^

This tutorial is still able to be followed at 1.5x or 2x speed if you're impatient like me. Thanks for the help.

I have the opposite problem. Audio is working perfectly fine but no video at all. Codec information shows only 1 stream - The audio stream, but no video stream. Please help

Lane Isbell First, ensure VLC plays the audio stream aloud when you play your original .mkv file (if it cannot decode the audio stream, it cannot re-encode the audio stream). Once you confirm this, try compressing using a different audio format within your MP4 file (some compressors do not like converting from other compressor types).

I followed your instructions and was able to successfully convert a video that will play with audio on VLC (on my laptop). However, when I moved that file to my external, and tried to watch it on the PS3 & Xbox360, neither had audio. Do you know how to fix this issue?

I have now tried literally almost everything and STILL no audio. I have reset the preferences, ive changed the Hz, ive tried to keep the original audio, even have tried different format other than converting it to MP4 and nothing is working. I hate MKV files as is now I despise them. Im ready to give up on this, its pointless now.

I had the no audio issue, and it appears to have fixed it. 44100; changed to 48000. However, subtitles apparently don't work as "soft subtitles" aren't supported by the MP4 format, and the file conversion apparently picked the wrong audio track, so the movie's playing in another language, even though I know English is available, and I can't find an option to change that in VLC. Argh. Guess I need a more powerful program like Handbrake or something.

i have the opposite problem, every video i convert (from mkv4 to mp4) the audio transfers no problem, but the video is black whenever i play it. Any ideas of how to fix that?

I deleted original video and after some time after i ran a video i heard i do not have an audio. I tried a few methods from then. I want to try once more to fix that. Im trying this now. converting time take soo much longer. not complaining so long as it works. i hope this works on the xbox. i dont know it if it will. I already converted from .mkv to .mp4, alas, no audio on the xbox360. dont know if what you just showed complies with the xbox though.. im just..tryin shit lol
