How to fix Anterior pelvic tilt or APT. Yoga, stretches & exercises for Anterior Pelvic Tilt correction, bad posture & lower back pain at home.
Bodybuilders who lift heavy weights with wrong technique, people who sit for long time, Pregnant women and girls wear high heals generally have this issue of Anterior pelvic tilt or APT. Its not limited to them only lack of exercises may also bring this issue. In long run a person having Anterior pelvic tilt or APT start having lower back pain.
In this video, I’m going to show you how to reverse the effects of chronic sitting by addressing what muscles are causing anterior pelvic tilt and how to strengthen the areas that are weak with the help of Yoga & exercises. Yoga is best to cope up with these posture imbalance. With a step by step attack plan, you are going to be able to fix this muscle and joint imbalance once and for all.
To start, it is important to define what anterior pelvic tilt or APT really is. It is the resultant posture of tightness and weakness in certain muscle groups of the core and pelvis that causes your pelvis to tilt anteriorly and downward. This can be seen pretty easily from the side in somebody that has it. You will notice an exaggerated curvature in the lower back and possibly even a protruding stomach. The belly is not protruding because of it being overweight (although it might be) but rather because the muscles of the abs are not strong enough to counteract the downward pull of the pelvis.
Realizing that our bodies work in a cross pattern muscularly, you will quickly see that the two areas of tightness are the lower back on the posterior side and the hip flexors or iliopsoas on the anterior or front side. The muscles of the hip flexors can become easily shortened because of the fact that they are in this state for prolonged periods of time from sitting. Whether you sit at work all day or just spend a long time in front of the computer or even driving, your hip flexors will have a tendency to adaptively shorten.
This causes a resultant weakness in the muscles on the opposite side of the joint, the glutes and hamstrings. When this happens you actually get a worsening of the problem since you don’t have the muscular strength to counteract the anterior and downward pull of the pelvis by the hip flexors. As a compensation to the glutes being weak, the lower back attempts to kick in and help out. It provides extra extension not provided by the glutes and in doing so, compromises its strength and integrity.
When combined with the pull of the iliopsoas on the lumber vertebrae, you get an overly active and tight low back. This not only can cause pain but further exacerbates the problem. Along with this static positioning of the pelvis you get a disuse stretch weakness on the abdominals. In order to counteract this cascade of problems you need to stretch the hip flexors, strengthen the abs with exercises that don’t over activate the hip flexors, and strengthen the glutes and hamstrings.
In this video we are going to demonstrate the yoga exercises to stretch and strengthen tight and week muscle groups respectively. Kumar Deobrat who is a sportsman and play cricket from Jharkhand team helping us in demonstrating these yoga asanas with Yoga expert/trainer Atul Kumar Verma at Gravity Health Club, Shakti Nagar under camera work & direction of Mr. Arjun Wadhawan.

Sir when I stretches lower back with chin up that time I feel pain in my lower back.. my posture is similar to APT when I exercise in d gym.. sometimes it cause prblm in sitting also due to workout in apt posture then automatically recover in somedays... How to fix this..

Finally I found the solution. This curvature was a problem for me for many years. My waist didn't seem to share the same weight on both sides while walking or standing. I hope this is gonna fix it. :) And I will then feel more balanced. Sir, please tell something about *Scoliosis* too. My upper body feels quite uneven, right side seems to work more then the left while the left is significantly fuller. I am afraid I might be having scoliosis or may be it's just my fear (because of too much reading about all this). :-/ there is a cracking sound on right back & rib area if I tilt to right while it's normal on the left side. I can turn behind more to right then to left. left side seems higher than the right side. 😭😭😭😭 It all started a couple of years back, m damn sure because of wrong squatting. Please make a video on this issue too.

I am sensing Scoliosis too... I would recommend you to visit a doc without delays and first diagnose what is the issue then think of solution.

Brother I am suffering from same issue but my situation is more critical coz I am kind of skinny fat though my stomach stretches outside and lower waist bend inside. And there is a pain in lower back specially when i have to stand for some time. I could easily feel that my structure is awkward.Pls do recommend to fix this problems. I will be very thankful

Issue you are telling is clearly an issue of ATP but no doubt you should visit an ortho and comfirm . After that u can go with these. Tc
