It's an Apple Colorsync problem, not an Adobe one (it also affects DaVinci Resolve) where your final file will be fine as this issue.only affects mac users/viewers running color managed software like quicktime player. You can view correctly on a mac using VLC......or make a second render with this LUT for end-viewers on a mac.
@SDWits
@SDWits 3 месяца назад
This is correct: it is a Color Sync issue. What he's doing here with adding on the LUT could make your video appear darker on a PC or android device. It's a hack, not really a fix. ColorSync is also why Davinci made the 709A output color space option. It's my understanding that 709A should only be used if your final output is being viewed on a mac device, or for proofing, but not final delivery.. If you're uploading to web where Mac and PC users will see it, don't use 709A. Some would also consider it a hack. You're baking in compensation for the Quicktime Bug. What you should be making sure of is that your NLC tags are 1-1-1 and your video is rec709 2.4 (if for broadcast).. "Premiere uses 1-1-1 for Rec. 709 video. This is because Premiere ignores the invalid 1-2-1, and uses the default which is 709. It doesn’t matter anyhow as import to a 709 timeline preserves the 709 media values. Premiere exports compliant 709 (1-1-1), marked in both NLC and VUI." - Lars Borg community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-beta-discussions/nlc-tags-1-1-1-vs-1-2-1-and-prpro-s-actions-and-practices/td-p/11990408 Lastly, I like VLC b/c it is not color-managed by ColorSync, but check out iina viewer. It's pretty cool too!

Thanks for the vid! It's a bummer this isn't a real solution because it's basically only correcting the image on some viewers for some computers, but at the same time is over saturating and darkening other computers that read the rec 709 properly. Davinci Resolve seems to have fixed this problem by adding a gamma tag option. Do you think it's possible that Premier may add that option in the future?

Hi all, I have used the QT Gamma Compensation mode for a long time and it was necessary in the previous versions of Adobe Premiere. However, I believe that Adobe has fixed the problem with the latest version of Premiere. If I edit on a sequence with one of the Apple ProRes 422 codecs and export to a H264 codec without the gamma compensation from that same sequence and put the ProRes video and the H264 one side by side in the Quicktime Player the images are exactly the same. If you edit on a Mac the best thing to do is to edit a much as possible on ProRes sequences. I don't know if on Windows the same problem exists?
@StephenBell_video
@StephenBell_video Год назад
I have noticed on some renders premiere doesn't require Gamma compensation - non pro res codecs on Sony for example, but for Canon and Lumix 10 bit 422 renders they still need it? The consistency of Premiere Pro is very frustrating... why I haven't switched to Da Vinci is a question I ask myself every day

On another Mac computer with a different version of quicktime 10.4 (as opposed to 10.5) the same image is much much darker (not sure it's the machine or the quicktime). I have exported a number of shows from that older computer to DCP and/or quicktime. Also, after I upload the same "brighter" quicktime to Vimeo, image looks darker again on vimeo (colours still do not match though). I keep going through this in different iterations of this issue every other project. I really need to put in some time and really learn davinci.

WRONG METHOD!!!!!! I figured it out!!!!!!! 1. Go to Lumetri Color Panel 2. Go to Settings (next to Edit) in Lumetri Color Panel 3. Under Viewer Gamma, change to Quicktime 4. Color correct with Viewer Gamma set to Quicktime 5. Export!!!!!! I was fighting this for so long!!! Here's me figuring it out on video if you don't easiliy see it yourself - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QirnkZA0ZUY.html

Anyone arrive at a better solution? The QT Gamma Compensation.cube seems to darken the shadows quite a bit.

I haven't noticed this problem in Premiere until I got Red Giant finisher and the export was no where near what I saw in the timeline... testing this lut on an export now. BTW, don't feel bad for not having switched to Resolve; I went down that road and anyone who pretends they "switched to Resolve" cannot be editing anything substantial; Resolve is a dumpster fire with countless problems... one of which is exactly what you're addressing in this video-- you will spend hours researching how to simply get your Resolve export to match what you see in the timeline

Sounds like a you problem, if you can't figure out Resolve you are probably 50+ and yearn for the AVID days. If you are not 50+, then you are washed up and have no future as an editor. That's right bro, I either called you a fossil or trash. Look in the mirror and deal with your fate, or I don't know, stop being a tool and push forward.
