Otosclerosis is a cause of hearing loss particularly in people between the ages of 20-40. In this video I explain roughly what it is and how surgeons fix it. The operation is called a stapedectomy.

Thanks! I have just been diagnosed with Otosclerosis in my right ear, after noticing a significant loss in my ability to hear over the last couple of years. What you said in your video backed up what I was told by my consultant, so for the moment I am going to see how I get on with a hearing aid.

I had stapedectomy done about 8 yrs ago, ever since they took the packing out of my ear, sound always was muffled, and if there was some packing restricting the sound. I went back and the doctor said nothing was in there. So I lived with that condition and it gradually got worse with less hearing, but also now, I have ringing in it! Lucky Me! I dont know what happpened because I was told there was hardly any risk, and he said it was a success, and was told the hearing would so much better(louder) afterwards . I should have never went. Before I had this done, I was told by many people that this doctor was great!

Hey Vik Veer please read this, I went to my nurse’s office to get my teeth cleaned and before cleaning they examined my teeth and throat.they noticed my tonsils were a little large (age is 11) so I knew someday I had to get surgery but the thing is, I’m scared of sleeping products like sleeping tea, sleeping pills, general anesthesia and other stuff. What’s really crazy about it is that I don’t even know how it got to the point where I got scared of sleeping products considering I haven’t took or have been forced to use them so I’m really hoping you have tips on how to do the surgery without general anesthesia and another type of anesthesia or medication.I’m really sorry for commenting on this video instead of the tonsil video I just thought you wouldn’t see it because you made that video 7 months ago and speaking of it, I searched online on how long it takes to get it done and it said 20 to 30 minutes but I was confused because you took 3 minutes and 12 seconds to remove both tonsils so I’m curious about how you did it very quick because if I’m gonna be forced to be put under general anesthesia I want you to be my surgeon because I won’t have to be on it for 20 to 30 minutes unless they have to do something important to my throat for the rest of the 27 minutes which I hope they do not.

interesting video . that also sounds like a very hard surgery to perform since it's so small of an area and the level of precision needed.

The doctor told me that I have this abut 8 years ago, but when I put headphones on, if I move about the headphone on my right ear, the side that I can't hear very well from I seem to be able to hear what is playing through the headphones very well, same loudness freqenncies. I would love to have this opportunity as I would not want to keep having to charge up hearing aid or risk losing one. Just wondering why I can hear when I move the headphone, like pressing it downwards towards the bottom of my ear. thank you in advance for a reply

How's your (Anosmia) taste and smell recovery coming along? Did your suggestions help with its recovery?

I think i'm almost completely healed up. I sometimes second guess myself, but I'm not testing myself anymore or taking any pills / drops. I tell people my sense of smell has come back. thanks for asking!

@@VikVeerENTSurgeon that's good to hear! I had the same issues as yourself and tried the old factory training along with Omega 3's you suggested combined with some multi vitamins. I'd say my taste is back to normal and smell is around 90% back to normal too. Appreated the advice in that video! _(although I didn't eat a raw onion tho 😂)_

Hello Dr.Veer I have a question about pulsatile tinnitus. I have this since 2 weeks,the first one the PT was constantly there and in the second one its more intermittent. Whenever I pressure in my neck it stops iimmediately which makes and is in sync with my heartbeat. I suspect it might be related to my blood pressure or blod vessels near my ear. Also when I move my neck it becomes more or less loud,it depends where. Maybe some kind of narrwoing in there. However I have seen to ENT doctors who the moment they saw I was congested they related my PT to it and gave me a nose spray. I dont think this might be actually true rather what I suspect. However you are the doctor and I would like to have a quick opinion whether you think my suspects are logical. I also have to say that I am young and never had these kind of problems. Thank you!

I would say that to an ENT surgeon, I'm sure they will examine your ear and consider a contrast enhanced scan. normally there is nothing on the scan but it might be worth getting it checked out just in case. if anything it'll give you reassurance / peace of mind.

Dr. Veer,I don’t understand from the comments, you have yourself otosclerosis and did the surgery? If yes, at what age you got your diagnosis, and how much hearing loss you had? Please give me more details.

What is the difference between stapedectomy and stapedotomy?
@VikVeerENTSurgeon
@VikVeerENTSurgeon Год назад
we use them interchangeably now - but officially it should be called stapedotomy as you are only making a hole in the bone rather than removing it all together. hard for us to get used to calling something new. we are lazy with our definitions as a speciality. you should hear the silly things we call mastoid operations....

@@VikVeerENTSurgeon In stapedectomy all parts of stapes are removed and in stapedotomy we make a hole in footplate. Sir i think success rate for stapedotomy is higher than stapedectomy. What do you say ?
