In today's video, we will show you how to fix and repair pot metal. Pot metal-also known as monkey metal, white metal, or die-cast zinc-is a colloquial term that refers to alloys of low melting point metals that manufacturers use to make fast and inexpensive castings.
The primary advantage of pot metal is that it is quick and easy to cast. Because of its low melting temperature, the casting process is much simpler and doesn't require complex machinery or molds. Pot metals are often used to prototype a product before going into full production with more expensive metals. Toys, furniture fittings, tool parts, electronics components, and automotive parts - like in our example here - are often made from pot metals.
Using our system, you can:
- Repair pot metal
- Repair rare parts for vehicles
- Make these repairs without welding or soldering

This is awesome! I've been looking for a way to fix a handle for our shower. We have a set of pliers clamped down on it right now, my wife is going to be ecstatic, haha.

What is the tinsel strength? I've used muggy. It does the job on almost anything, as long as isn't feeler gauge thin. I think that's 2 selling points that you have... Can be used on Razer thin repairs and economical. Why do I say economical. It's bad enough muggy rakes you over the coals for their products that they exclusive sell on Amazon now, but they charge you another 16 bucks to ship 1lb. That's thievery. Now Caldwell has a rod, they are a sneaky outfit in my experience. They sell the special flux separately. For most repairs, I personally would opt for this even if a chrome plate will be applied. Copper paint for circuits is cheap and solves the problem, not to mention, with copper paint, you can plate plastic

I'd love to see some strength tests on the various repairs done with tech-bond compared to other glues.

Thanks for the suggestion! Some of our viewers have sent us videos like that and you're right, it would be neat to see the difference in use.

I need a glue to fix the pot I use to boil potatoes and spaghetti in. The bottom has an area that seems to have rusted a leak in it. I'm pretty certain its stainless steel. Any suggestions?? Thanks

@guysteel I thought I'd cut out that one little rusted spot. Or sand it down really good. Then it would be perfect again.

Why haven't you updated the link to your website? And why is your site's copyright set at 2020? Are you guys closed down?

Or you can do it correctly and use Super Alloy 1 to do a proper repair.

I am not sure that stuff will hold up to any type of pressure, most likely once you attempt to roll a window it will break off. Any type of welding or gluing is going to be as strong as the pot metal. If it has already broken once any and all repair attempts will be fruitless, what you need to do is to make a replacement part with real steel so it can hold up to the pressure and strain.

I honestly do not believe that will survive a child rollin the window down.
@jamesruther2879
@jamesruther2879 7 лет назад
Nope. That won't hold up. Window cranks have to be welded, not soldered, but welded, #potmetal finished and re-chromed in order to be put back into service. Otherwise it's a dashboard conversation piece.

Hi, we get reactions like this on many of our 1-2-Fixed videos, so we understand the skepticism. We're showing something new and it can be hard to believe our products can do what we say they can do - that's why we have an unconditional money-back guarantee. If it doesn't do what we say it can do, our customers get their money back. The neat thing is that we've never had a customer ask for a refund.

TECH-BOND SOLUTIONS I'm certain there is a place for your product, but in instances where the piece is subjected to machanical stress, logic says lasting durability isn't there. That is if we're talking about a type of CA glue?

Let me share a story with you. Shortly after we posted our first videos on our RU-vid channel, there was a large order. A couple of weeks later, I got a call from a person who labeled himself an adhesive expert, both CA’s and epoxies. His statement was, “It’s the best adhesive I’ve ever used, by far.” I’ve stayed in touch with him. His latest project was bonding polypropylene straps to aluminum cases. After the cure period, he tried to pull the straps loose … with everything he had. Seventy-nine of the eighty straps held. He redid the eightieth and it’s holding. Polypropylene to aluminum, quickly easily and with strength. I would also suggest that those bonds would still be holding twenty years from now. What is different about the Tech-Bond Molecular Bonding System is the use of supplemental additives to improve the chemical reaction. With the use of these additives, the chemical reaction critical to forming a bond is more intense, forming a stronger and more durable bond. I’ve been selling adhesives for seventeen years and playing with these adhesives during that time. Because of that, I’ve solved unsolvable problems in the taxidermy, engineering, farm, funeral home and automotive industries, among others. I would be very interested to be involved with and answer questions on your RU-vid channel. Since I know from experience that no one believes … until they prove it to themselves. Let us send you a kit for testing. I will tell you the weakness on things like repairing pot metal and/or a torn bumper cover. If you put your thumb directly on the repair and apply substantial pressure, the repair will break. However, repairs will always handle normal wear and tear.

TECH-BOND SOLUTIONS Hello. Oh, don't get me wrong. I believe your product is what you say. However in a mechanical instance involving the needed strength of metal parts, repairing those broken "metal" parts via glue, with consideration to to strength, logically doesn't make sense. Please don't take my comments as I'm belittling your product. That's not my intention. And with respect to your story, gluing soft meterial to a non ferrous metals makes complete sense. Anyhow, I've enjoyed our discussion and yes, I'd love to test your product. I've got plenty of broken #potmetal around for testing... Perhaps I'll stand corrected? Thanks.

I've also enjoyed our discussion very much. Let me add to out commentary. Many repairs need additional strength. There are two ways to get that strength. Both assume that the surface has been aggressively roughed if it is a surface to surface With a break, you want to remove the corrosion, but you want to maintain the surface contour so that you get the best join possible. First, spread the SI adhesive over the seam like you mudding dry wall. Then either sprinkle the Filler on or spray with the Accelerator. Successive coats add additional strength for two or three more coats. An important note, when dealing with a structural CA as a coating, that coating is actually harder than most metals. Second note. A structural CA will bond to itself. Household CA's don't. Secondly, you can use sports tape as a cast when you coat the tape with a structural CQA. You're adding surface area and the result is usually stronger than the original. Please send your address so that we can send you a sample kit. Do you work with poly's? Thanks, Tech-Bond staff.

I don't care what anyone says, that isn't fixed by no means.
