How to fix a quick-connect that has a plugged screen or a dislodged check-valve that cause water to stop flowing. This quick-connect was on a ProjectSource (Lowe's) faucet, but should apply to many others as well.
About a day after I reinstalled the quick-connect, the check-valve became dislodged again. As I suggested I might do (at the end of the video), I pulled the check-valve and spring out, put the screen back in place and am running it without the check-valve. If you know of a reason that this is a bad idea, please let me know in the comment section.
Here is a link to a video with instructions on how to remove the quick-connect: • Faucet quick-connect r...
Thank you StormTrooperBabe for alerting me to the debris-clogging-the-screen issue. I had not experienced that.

Thanks for the great no nonsense video. I wish I would have watched your video before trying to disassemble faucet. Other than almost losing small spring on the floor it was a great repair. Thanks alot.

FYI this is for the Lowe’s faucet. Power source. The ppl at Lowe’s kept recommending to just buy another one. But this clears up the low pressure issue. Thanks Brett

Thanks a billion for the video! I only disconnected the top part and simply unscrewed while still on the hose. I rinsed the parts and re-assembled and it worked!

Thank you so much! I disassembled mine and was able to remove about 1/8 tsp of black gunk. It seems it's not the exact same model as the video, but it carries the same check-valves (2 of them).

Thanks for this video. I had low water flow when my faucet handle was full open. Closing the handle slightly would cause the water flow to increase. Weird! I purchased a ceramic cartridge but that didn't fix the issue. I saw your video....looked at the check valve...saw how flimsy and cheap it is....removed it...problem solved! I know that a check valve prevents water from flowing in the opposite direction but I read that a check valve isn't necessarily needed on a sink faucet.

Thank You! my connect is a little different, but the issue was the plunger-thing- it was hung up (not a debris issue) and I messed with it and now it's working like new- yay!

Our Kohler quick connector gradually clogged up, restricting flow. I wish I had seen this video before I decided to drill out all the guts, so I could have just unscrewed it and easily removed the unnecessary over-engineered obstructions. What a dumb place to put a screen! Drilling and using a punch got it all out in many small pieces! But it works great now with full flow to sprayhead. Thanks!

Thank you! And for the tip on taking it off. Mine was very gunked up from the moment I installed. This made all the difference. I probably should have watched the entire video about not pushing the valve all the way in. But hey, at least I know how to fix it.

Great video! you saved my low flow problem. At 2:22 you can just barely see a silver metal piece between the white and reddish pieces. Mine came apart and I don't know which way that flat metal piece goes back in. Any ideas?

Hi Jeff. I apologize for not responding earlier. When I received the notification of your comment, I went to look at it, but it appeared to have been removed. I just noticed that it is showing up now. I believe that I saw (at around 2:22) the metal piece you mentioned that is sandwiched between the white and reddish pieces. Were you able to get these pieces put together again?

Brett Schmidt i can't remember now which way I put the metal piece in. I think it had tabs making it only fit one way. Seems to be working fine. Thanks again!

Hey Brett! Thank you for posting. I’ve had issues with my Kohler sink faucet. I lost hot water (down to a trickle) after replacing the main faucet hose. I really think something came dislodged inside the faucet as I fed the tube through. After a few unsuccessful attempts, they sent me a check valve. I’ll be trying this, but where is this assembly located? Is it in one of the water hoses? Thanks so much for posting with detail. 😊

The various brands that utilize their proprietary "quick connects" should have class action lawsuits against them - the dubious plastic and o-ring gizmos eventually age and leak or fail, and many are not available in the hose configurations that usually go bad, leading most consumers to give in and buy a whole new faucet unit. Even a correct diameter Shark Bite fitting is not available, that I've found.

The real question is why in the world would you ever put that screen and check valve back in? There’s already a flow restrictor at the end of the line. There’s no reason to have one in a location that’s damn near inaccessible

Quick question. Have you made a video where you remove the check valve and test that? I'd like to remove mine and want to make sure it wont leak or spray water all under my sink if I remove it.

Hi Justin. I have not made a video specifically for that, but the check-valve seen in this video caused issues again, so I did end up removing the check-valve, and leaving it out. The faucet has worked flawlessly since I did that. The check-valve itself does not provide an external seal, so not having it in place will not cause external leaks. The orange cylinder acts as the housing for the check-valve and also, in conjunction with the screen, as a sediment-trap. The o-ring on the cylinder is there to force the water through the check-valve and sediment-trap assembly. You should be able to remove the sediment-trap/check-valve assembly as a whole, and still not have external leaks, but that would allow debris to reach the spray head, so I recommend leaving the sediment-trap in place. With the one I was working on, I removed the plunger and the spring, then reinstalled the orange cylinder with the screen attached, so only screened water reaches the spray head.

@@BrettSchmidt thank you for the quick response! I had an element go bad in a water heater leading to these little sediment specks clogging the check valve on my brand new faucet today. Trying your method of cleaning the check valve helped some, but I still wasn’t getting full pressure. I was curious as to the possibility of removing the check valve and the screen for maximum flow. Because until all of the sediment is out of the line, I will continue to have to clean the screen because it will very quickly get clogged again. And it’s much easier to clean the spray head than the quick connector. I will try what you said and only remove the check valve. Thank you for all the help and information!

@BrettSchmidt
@BrettSchmidt 11 месяцев назад
Hi Mary. If I’m understanding your situation correctly, you may not need a new quick-connect. Before you buy a new one, I suggest taking a look at the o-rings that are on the brass fitting. Go to 0:25 in the other video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VIF4HFqD8-s.html), and you’ll see the two o-rings to which I am referring. If they are in bad shape, or missing, your leak will continue, even if you get a new quick-connect. If you determine that you do need a new quick-connect, there are a couple of links in the other video’s description to new ones that might/should fit (I haven’t tried them).

@@BrettSchmidt thank you I will check them out and if I need new ones where do I get them?
@BrettSchmidt

Any decent hardware store should have the o-rings. I suggest taking one of the old ones to the store so you can make sure that you get the correct size.
@mary6090
@mary6090 11 месяцев назад
@@BrettSchmidt the o rings were fine, I was informed they can not get a new quick connect any time soon. So I installed a new faucet , paid a little more and the connections and parts are of much better quality. Thanks to all the video I had no issue with the new installation.

You can try and take it to a plumbing supply store and see if you can purchase little kits. It’s pretty tough because the manufacturers will just say it’s your fault go buy another one.
