Easy fix for slow, low water pressure, Kohler pull down faucets. Works for Kohler Barossa and other models. Troubleshooting and easy fix.
QUICK UPDATE:
Wow, I had NO idea this would be such a popular subject. Thanks so much for all the comments. Our little kiddos treat it as a huge event when I announce a new one - it's hysterical and much-needed pandemic fun! Since this video, I went back and - using the tip of a pencil - popped out the entire piece that was getting clogged. I believe it's a flow restrictor. All you do is take a pointed object and place it on the side of the clogged part that does not have the black rubber ring. With a little push, the piece will pop right out, ring and all. It will slide back in if you change your mind down the road.
Well, that's the update. Thanks so much for the love! A few of you asked what Lake Forest Farms is -- We are a local family farm north of Chicago, specializing in nutrient-dense microgreens (both fresh and powdered). We deliver nationally, direct to homes and restaurants. If you'd like to help support a small farm like ours - especially during this awful pandemic - please check us out at www.lakeforest.farm

When the founders of RU-vid were in a room together thinking about all the glory that would be bestowed upon the earth with their amazing invention, they had this video in mind. Just some dude in his kitchen helping thousands of people with a simple fix using his phone and a jar as his only props. Thank you good sir. There is a special place in RU-vid heaven for you.

I have the exact same faucet and had two issues. I had low flow plus very low flow on the hot-water side. Using from what I learned from the video, I cleaned rust particles out of the white part. The flow was improved but the hot-water side was still slow compared to the cold-water side. I removed the handle and cartridge and found a piece of rust stuck in the hot-water orifice. I couldn't pull it out but was able to loosen it by pushing it in with an ice pick. I reassembled the faucet valve and handle and then removed the hot-water hose from the wall valve. With my thumb covering the spigot, I turned on the water to the middle position and was able to back flush the hot-water side using the cold water and found two pieces of rust about the size of a BB. The faucet now works like the day I bought 12 years ago. Thanks for the video!

I am so happy that I found this video. I also tried everything, flushed lines soaked the head. Took the handle apart etc. I had seen the plastic piece on the line, but would have had “no idea” on how to detach it without your help. Worked like a charm. FYI, theee was a small “o ring” inside which I removed and it’s working great.

We had to buy a new faucet. We eventually still had this problem. We have a handy man and he was never able to fix it other than replace the whole damn thing. I’m in a really pissed off mood and didn’t want to wait for hubby to figure out what to do about it. Looked through so many RU-vid videos, tried so many things and none has helped like yours. 4 years after you made the video and it's still helping DIY'ers. Saved me a new faucet and and hour of contortions under my sink as well. Like others I tried other things including replacing the head -- button had failed anyway -- and the cartridge (only $14 through amazon). No bueno. Followed your video and like another removed the little o-ring as well. Works like new and no leaks so the o-ring must just be a backup. THANK YOU! I'd drop off a six pack if you lived nearby.

Don't know why Kohler doesn't have this information on their website! We had no idea there was a second filter on our faucet, not easy to see this part behind the sink and it doesnt really say what the part is on the parts list. Not the same model as yours, but a pull down model also that has the same part. Your instructions were invaluable. We have had problems for two years and it was finally to the point it was so bad we were going to replace it! Thanks so much, it works great!

Thanks for this, saved me a lot of time and trouble shooting. I disassembled the quick-connector and, using a 3/16" wooden dowel, popped the restrictor out and have left it out. This faucet has never produced good flow since new but now it's running at 100%. I have no problem blowing out and cleaning the spray nozzle and hose if they clog in future. Thanks again.

Okay, I never comment on videos but since you're apparently sharing these comments with your kids: I'm another happy customer! Good grief! I went through the same YEARS of low flow that many others did--I cleaned the faucet head multiple times, finally broke down and bought a new faucet head once (probably $50), and this summer I was determined to take the whole thing apart and either fix it or buy an entire new faucet. Instead I followed your wonderful, terrible video-- I think you said "worst video ever" :D -- and like many others I just ditched that tiny black rubber o-ring. And now I have water pressure again, for the first time in years!! You're awesome! My wife is thrilled. Thanks again!

Thank you for this video! It helped me fix the extremely slow flow on a Kohler kitchen faucet. Slightly different design of faucet and flow restrictor module, but basically worked the same. After finding and disassembling the white flow restrictor assembly as shown, I cleared the holes in the blue plastic flow restrictor (ours is blue, the one in the video is white) with a bent paper clip and rinsed the whole assembly off well. It got rid of a lot of little black granules that probably came from our hot water heater. Water flow is now several times what it was before. Many thanks!

Mr. Hirsh, First off, thank you a thousand times over. My wife and I just bought a home after selling our home of 14 uears and it has been one thing after another. We are on a well and I had been battling mineral deposits daily until we got a double filter system installed and a new faucet for the kitchen. It worked great for about ten minutes before some residual mineral build up from the lines put us right back where we started. I have been looking for a solution to this problem and your video finally shed some light on the problem. Don't discredit you video quality at all! It is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much! Please upload more and don't change a thing!

This has been a little piece of gold. We have a 4-yr old Kohler Trielle pull-down that has been driving us nuts for two years with low flow. Like some others here, I looked at everything I could think of to clean out, and nothing worked. Finally stumbled across this video and bingo, problem solved. The tiny little O-ring in the quick disconnect has deformed over time and spread out into the flow path, restricting the flow. Remove the O-ring and you're seriously back in business. (The O-ring's only purpose seems to be to act as a flow restrictor. Over time it gets *too* good.) It is extremely disappointing that nowhere does Kohler ever mention this. Thank you Elliot!

Worked like a charm! Easy job. Snapping the white plastic fitting back onto the copper line was a bit precarious as it took some effort and didn't want to break anything, but apply to steady Force until it snapped back in place. Surprising how a few small pieces of particle can reduce the flow significantly. I also took out that small black o-ring in there to aid. No apparent negative side effects at this time. Thank you Mr. Handyman at large!!!👍

THANK YOU so much! Mine is the new Kohler Trielle (same design as yours, I guess just newer) and I just installed it brand new. My little screen thing was perfectly clean when I opened it up, so I took that little o-ring in the middle out and it now has the pressure it should have. I looked at the screen thing carefully, and really didn't see it sealing anything before I took it out (the one in there was too big anyway), and there are no leaks. Thank you for guiding me in the right direction. There are no youtubes for the new Trielle, so your video was a tremendous help!

just want to say thank you!! I stumbled upon this while trying to search to see if that check valve was a flow restrictor and if it can be removed. I decided to just clean it per your video. I ended up having to clean both sections of the plastic quick connect (I used picks I purchased from Menards) I also had to flush the hard line leading to this quick connect, and back flush the cartridge, took some compressed air to it too. Took a few disconnects and re-assembles but FINALLY got it flowing great! I almost feel like its better than when it was new ha ha. Here's to fellas helping other fellas thanks again!!

Had to sign in and thank you for the directions Elliot. I recently had to cut the water off at the main water line leading to the house. Apparently, when I turned the water back on, the back pressure cut loose a bunch of sediment clogging up all our faucets and shower heads. I could not figure out why our kitchen faucet still had no pressure even though I cleaned out the spray head. That little plastic piece under the sink was the culprit! Appreciate ya.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We have a very similar Kohler pull-down kitchen faucet that had the exact same low-flow problem. It was degrading over time and got very noticeable about a month ago. With lockdowns and Christmas holidays and all, we just dealt with it, but it got way worse in the last week. I thought it was a problem with the piping to the kitchen as our pressure everywhere else in the house was fine. I'd tried cleaning the faucet head to no avail and was starting to look at replacement parts. So glad I found this video! Our faucet has almost the exact same white plastic piece as yours, just different clip mechanism on the water-supply end, otherwise same issue - I had no idea that part even existed. We love the faucet itself and are very pleased to have water pressure now that we haven't enjoyed in a few years.

Great tip on cleaning out the quick connect piece there. There was some build up, but I also removed the little o- ring in there. With how it is constructed the only purpose I can see that it has is to restrict water flow and the faucet works great now.

Thank you, you rock! I didn't see any significant mineral buildup in the valve cartridge, but I soaked it in vinegar anyway and used a brush around the intake. Afterwards, the water flow improved considerably, to the point where the sprayer actually has the power to spray off food from my dishes. FYI, I also had problems with the sprayer switch with this faucet. I'm on my third sprayer head since October 2016. The switch seems to get mushy and eventually doesn't really work to turn the sprayer totally off. It's incredibly annoying. Fortunately, the faucet has a lifetime guarantee and if you go to the Kohler site and provide your model number and other info, they will send you a replacement head for free. They may also do that for the valve cartridge, which is something I'll try the next time the water flow slows down to a crawl.

This is extremely helpful to me. Not that I was concerned about slow flow, but I was going to replace the pull down hose, because it had a leak at the head of the faucet, where the little ball connection is. But to replace it I needed to know how the opposite connection works. I needed to know how to disconnect it, and reconnect the new hose. You showed it very well . Thanks!!!

Absolutely correct. I tried reverse flushing all the lines two times each line. Took off the sprayer a dozen times. I was ready to call Koehler and join the other bad reviews for the Barossa and then I saw this solution. I took the little clip on piece on the middle line to the facet and it was full of little black hard particles. My plumber replaced all the supply line valves a few days ago and he said while I was turning the valves off and on to see if the leaks would stop I was breaking up the old washer in the valve into particles and blocked the line. I knew the particles were in there just couldn’t figure out where they were until I saw this. It was a simple easy fix. It took 10 or fifteen minutes and saved me calling Koehler and replacing a bunch of other parts that wouldn’t have fixed the problem. This was the fix and the pressure is now full strength. My old valves were about 23 years old so it is not a surprise they were worn out. The faucet was only four years old which still seemed like new. Now the water runs like a new faucet. Thanks so much for this video!

Thank you! The faucet is only 1 week old, but there was enough grit in that aerator to slow the flow way down. I actually just unscrewed the bottom part vs unclipping the whole thing

Thanks for posting this. As other's have mentioned, this is not just an issue with Kohler faucets. I have a Moen and there is a similar check valve in mine. In my case the rubber gaskets in the valve complete disintegrated which in turn blocked the valve. I removed the valve by pulling on it with some needle nose pliers. After the valve was removed, the water flow returned to normal. I'll have to see if I can find a replacement valve in case it actually does some thing important.

Thanks for your video...I'm embarrassed I let the water flow (trickle) get so bad. Your instructions worked like a charm. I decided to remove the little rubber O-ring as well. I don't remember ever having this much water pressure in our kitchen sink...it flows awesome now! Thanks again!!! Steve in Denver
