I had the same problem without Kitchenaid four-door refrigerator. It was making a noise like a motor was straining and the water was trickling out from the unit vs. coming fast so a cup would fill this week. I used a garden hose washer which was too thick. I cut it in half to thin it out and it worked perfectly. We called the extended warranty folks who will be here in a week or so and I am sure they will replace the part as it should be. THANKS!!

Thanks for the video. It's rare that you search for a fix-it video, and the solution is exactly your situation. I just applied this fix. I had just replaced the filter, and the buzzing noise started. There was also slight leakage around the connection. I thought maybe I had a defective filter, but before returning it, I put the old one back in, and it was still buzzing. After watching this video, I looked around the house for washers and didn't have anything that would work. So, I went to Lowe's and came back with a Plan A and a Plan B. Plan A was a 1/2 inch ID metal (zinc) washer. This slid into place perfectly on the fridge side, but I couldn't screw on the filter with it there. I'm not going to take a pipe wrench to force a plastic connection. I couldn't find suitable rubber gaskets, so my Plan B was a 1/2 inch ID rubber grommet. I sliced it in half with a sharp kitchen knife (like a bagel), cleaned up the middle part of one half, slid it on, and voilà, the noise is gone. Unfortunately, the water flow is quite low, so I think I'm still in the market for something thinner. I'll post again if my solution is complete.

This worked for me too. The cost for a new tank and housing was $130 and was 2-3 weeks back ordered. You do need the right sized flat washer Thanks for this post.

3/8" inch rubber washer did the trick! Must be a defect with the filter end not making full contact with the flow nubs. Thank you so much for making this video. Easy fix.

Had same problem, and tried different brands of filters with the thought that that might be the cause; none corrected it. This video however was EXACTLY what was needed; a simple washer I already had on hand fixed the problem completely! Saved me the equivalent of my RU-vid subscription cost. THANKS!

Called KitchenAid and they wanted to charge me $129 to send a tech. Watched this video, bought a 3/8" neoprene washer from Home Depot for $0.98, and it's good to go. Thank you!

WoW it works but does it mean bypass the function of the filter to let the water pass it?
@HowToDoitright
@HowToDoitright 8 месяцев назад
Absolutely not. The water still goes through the filter.
@kane417

I think you’re correct that the water filter was bypassed when you put in the washing

The clanging noise stopped and the water flow increased about 50%. That's definitely the problem. Looks like the unit will have to be replaced for it to work 100%.

It could also be the part that dispense water. See my video below. By replacing this part my flow is amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-geG-tHOaKbU.html

You do realize you just bypassed the water filter, right? This is why you have increased water flow.
@HowToDoitright
@HowToDoitright 2 года назад
Nope by doing that you don’t bypass the water filter. You just adding a little push to the small tabs to be pressed further which increase the flow and stop rattling. There is no practical way to bypass the filter. You can actually test this by installing a new filter and you will see that it gets filled up with water confirming it’s not bypassed.

@@HowToDoitright I tried a very thin copper washer and I have full flow and no noise!!!

I'm not so sure you didn't bypass the water filter??? because my fridge did the same thing and the water filter removed got me more flow and no vibration. The washer didnt allow the filter to insert properly.

Makes no difference. Those filters don't accomplish much anyway.
@tanler7953

On my fridge the unit won't work without a filter, or without the plug insert which allows for a direct flow from the water line. In the video, for sure the water is going through the filter. However, different fridges may have different design specs.
@HowToDoitright
@HowToDoitright Год назад
Yes fridge won’t work without filter so that’s a must. Just add the washer in front. Also it may be your actuator valve for water dispenser that may be going bad. I changed mine on a different video. Check my playlist appliances and you will see the video. It really increased my water flow.
