I don't have this issue , but I have another issue . I needed to turn off the water so I turned it clock wise , but the water kept flowing, thus I tried counter clockwise several times and the water shut off...go figure. Now when I go turn it back on going clockwise, no water is flowing . What happened ? I'm confused

I'm a 64 year old woman and was determined to follow your instructions and get this done, my valve is really stuck. I'm afraid it's going to be expensive. Well I put a bunch of CLR on it over night. Then I started to follow your directions with hot water and WD-40. I also banged on the pipe a bunch to help loosen the crud. Little by little, back and forth, WD-40, then more hot water, more banging and more WD-40, it finally WORKED. It's now moving freely and I saved myself hundreds of dollars. Thank you so so so much!

This was the best information to learn on how to fix a stuck shutoff valve under my kitchen sink. I followed as directed and it worked like a dream! I was able to replace a leaking hose on my side water sprayer. So simple when I was able to free my stuck valve. You saved me a visit from a plumber. So very grateful for your video. I will turn my shut off valves two times a year now so they will not get stuck. 5⭐’s

I hadn't touched the valve in years and it was completely stuck. But just by following your clear and helpful tips 3 times it came loose and now I can try to fix the toilet leak without wasting water! The only thing I did slightly differently was to wrap the hot sock around the valve. The way you gradually turned that valve (as if it was stuck) was really something! Thanks so much for your help and keep up the good work!

It worked beautifully. I looked at several videos and yours was the best orderly, logical, and clear. I did do 3 iterations of the hot sock, wait 5, WD40, wait 15, and rock the valve back and forth. I did also loosen up the nut to relief water pressure. On every iteration the valve closed more and more, until it moved all the way after the third go around. Congratulations on a well constructed video. My thanks

This is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much for posting this! If the valve is really stuck it might take several cycles to get it loose. I had to repeat the whole process about 3 times and left the wd-40 on for a few hours but eventually the valve gave way. After that I turned the valve on and off a couple times while coating it with more wd-40 so the lubricant would also lube the insides of the valve as I twisted it open and shut.

Wow! Its 1am and my toilet was leaking. Valve has been stuck for at least 3 years. Desperate to not have to call the plumber, I followed these directions to a T. Soaked the sock in boiling water, laid it on the valve, left it for 10 min. Then sprayed the valve with WD40. Left it for another 5 min. Started working the valve clock and counterclockwise. After about 5 min of working it, it finally shut off! Thank you!!!

Really enjoy your videos because you get to the point and offer the solution without making your video a 20 minute plus production. In my case, my wife noticed a leak on the floor. I felt a wet valve, continued to feel up to the valve and hose fitting and then, up the hose to the nut. All were in a fairly straight line one above the other and all were wet. I stopped there but should have continued as I think my problem was a loose flatter nut that holds the assembly in the reservoir. If I would have checked this I would have saved a lot of work taking everything apart, checking, putting pipe dope back on and re-assembling because everything was in good shape. It was then that I discovered the flat nut on the bottom of the reservoir wasn't tightly fastened. I tightened it and everything works now. Thought I went to the top but didn't go far enough! Thanks for your great videos.

I was all ready to replace my toilet valve and flapper seal when I got stopped in my tracks before I could get started because the water valve was stuck. I immediately went to my go to WD40 which at first did nothing. Luckily, I came across your video and thank God that I did because I boiled the water as you suggested, soaked an old rag in it, and placed exactly where you said on the valve. I let it sit there for about 10 minutes. Of course, when I took it off, the rag was very cold. I then started the back and forth turning the valve slowly from left to right and back. Sure enough, it worked. I was on to changing out my valve and flapper seal in just a few minutes. Thanks! This video was just the one I needed. Easy peasy!

The problem I find is everyone open the valve 100 % then they never touched the valve until there's a problem years down the road. If you only open that valve 90% and you have a situation you then have either clockwise or or counterclockwise when you leave the valve 100% open you are usually stuck with only a clockwise rotation to attempt and free the stuck valve. Leaving the valve will always give you motion both ways and will make it easier remove the valve and no one seems to like doing preventive maintenance when they're cleaning their bathroom and sprain a lubricant around that valve yearly or more. Hope my tip helps for future homeowners

After waiting for the WD-40 to do its job, I really appreciated the tip to turn it more closed to get some back and forth action going. That was not something I would have necessarily tried on my own and it seemed to be helpful to get things going and just as in his example, it moved a bit more and more until I was able to close it fully. Thanks!

A word of warning , beware of the 1/4 turn valves they look the same as regular valves. Most of the time they have the word 1/4 turn printed lightly on the handle but need to look close to verify. It will save you from spending a bunch of time fiddling with it only to break it because you did`nt know.

Thank you SO much for this advice! Thanks to your video I just fixed our toilet that had been slightly leaking for 4+ years! Getting the water valve to turn off was the first major hurdle! The only things I would recommend doing slightly differently is to wrap the hot sock fully around the whole valve, not just drape it, so it’s thickly surrounding it. Also, I switched to using 3 in 1 oil and that seemed to do the trick better than the WD40. This a bit of time & patience, it came unstuck! I can’t tell you how empowering it was to get it unstuck and then finally fix the toilet! It was only a simple silicon seal causing all the problems and was such a simple fix once I could get to it! Thank you!

Thank You. Worked great. I tried the hot water/sock. Then some CLR. Some banging. Still stuck but I was now able to rock it. I didn’t have WD40 so I used Vaseline and that did the trick. It was so exciting when it turned. I had more than a drip. I had a steady leak. No more! FYI I am a 62 year old lady. If I can do it so can you. After that I went and “exercised” all my valves and didn’t turn them too tight - leave some room.. I will regularly exercise all shut off valves so I don’t have to go through this again.

I'm 2 for 4. Thanks so much. Two valves with metal shafts now work great, but two with plastic shafts are still stuck. Worry about excess force on plastic shafts for one thing. That said, the two that really matter on a toilet and the kitchen sink now work perfectly, so I'm a very happy camper. I take off the valve handles to better access the shafts with the penetrant (Zepreserve). Mine aren't as open as the example in the video.

Thanks a lot for the video. And it is clear that this is often effective given the comments. But just so viewers know, it does not always work as it didn't work for me. My valve is completely stuck-no movement at all. Same after as before. It is a bathroom sink so rather than replace the valve I will just turn off the main when there is a leak or a need for a new faucet. Again thanks anyway. It was worth a try.

My my my….this worked…thank you thank u sooooooo much…I did spray WD40 3 or 4 times several days apart before the hot cloth, but I’m so impressed and grateful…I not only loosened one but two shot off valves in my home….best wishes and thank you for sharing your wisdom! 🎉❤🎉

Thank you so much. I have not tried it yet but I am feeling confident. I am an old lady who just does not want to call a plumber unless necessary

Worked for me after applying hot water twice. I will be turning valve a few times a week to prevent this from happening again. Thanx

3 to 4 times a year is plenty it takes a while for the calcium and other minerals to cause sticking. Been in the trades 45 years, or basically most if not all of this guy's life.

It worked beautifully to loosen my valve. Thank you. I have another valve that turns easily but does not shuts off water for some reason. I need to figure that out too.
