Just completed this Mod today, my 2014 Sport didn't have the weight, so not sure why some years have it others do not. Used 3 pennies on each side, works perfect! Thanks so much!

Behind the passenger seat in between the strut bar is a perfect place for the lunch box! That’s where I keep my backpack nice and secure even when it’s full. Simply adjust passenger seat to accommodate for your lunch box if there’s no space

Only using 2 coins worked for my car. No need to remove the weight and some lubricant on the levers. Thanks for the video .

I had the same issue since I bought the 370z, Nissan replaced the pressurized springs and everything is fine since then. The guarantee covered it.

Thanks a million / 6 cents! This has annoyed me from day one with it! Dealership has ZERO idea how to fix it too! Will follow your instructions. It sucks when you have to put bags on the ground during the rain. Now where do I get that privacy cover+ cargo net deal without spending a billion $$$? I've resorted to putting items under the carpet to eliminate them from going all over the place on trips, or just using the passenger side foot area.

07wrxtr1 That cover came with the car, and that net was actually from my Genesis Coupe, it just happened to fit the Z, so I kept it.

Thanks for showing this trick Brian, as I have the same problem on my 2019 Z with 37K miles. The hatch seemed okay for the first couple of years but that problem started popping up in the last year, as I guess the springs started weakening.

Great video! My mod cost 20 cents since I used 2 dimes on each spring. Three pennies were too thick for me at this time.

I used little stiff foam pads on the actual trunk where the little rubber springs n trunk meet n it helped as well

Did this help with the rattling at hi revs? Have the resonated short tails on my Nismo as well and there is a rattle coming from the hatch area now...

Similar to the quarter trick in the buffer tube in an ar 15 when the bolt isn't cycling completely back into battery...

Well it helped to get what you wanted done. But I see another way. The seal is not very good with trunk closed as the rear hatch is not that tight. Wind noise is possible, doubt keeping water out is a problem but possible. What I would have done was adjust the latch to make hatch door tighter. Now I have the same problem with my 370z so I will try making the latch adjustment and see it that fixes it.

This issue usually occurs for me when the car is locked and I try to open the boot. If the car is already unlocked the boot opens perfectly.

Copper is a dissimilar metal. just elongate the spring for the same effect and you wont create any electrolysis corrosion. Great idea!

Take of the rubber boot that covers the springs on each side of your hatch...Install some few coins in there, dont remember what I used if it was quarters or nickels. That will fix it, I had same problem on mine....works like a charm.....just a top tip.

It changed the most in the first week. I think it's perfect. Once the engine is pretty hot, it'll pop quite a bit on downshifts at 3k.

I've had that rattle and hood release problem on my '13 Nismo as well. Have been too lazy to try this out but it's way too easy to keep passing up. Did it fix your the rattling?

SUAVERICO8051 The rattle is still mostly there :( I think it might be that plastic trim piece that was removed to get to the weight. Maybe I'll use some 3M tape on it to see if that helps.

I got an Nismo and you know what I do? I put one hand on the button, and one on the wing and presto bingo it opens!!! Lol that weight you took out is part of the reason your car is vibrating

Your rattle could even be the license plate cover, my rattle went away when I got a heavier metal cover I put 3m on it and it worked

I already tried that. It's the plastic trim piece that I had to remove to get to that weight. I just need to put some foam of some sort back there.

I belive its a safety latch type in case you accidentally hit the button it does not just open . Maby annoying but when every thing in your car is stolen due to hitting the button in your pocket once you will thank them for that .

I hope this doesn't get done further into the video but since I'm only 3 minutes in- what about stronger hydraulics? I just bought a Z yesterday and this was the first issue I noticed lol

The penny trick worked for a bit. But after a month it stopped working. So I took them out for a week and then put them back in and it worked for another month. Stronger struts might help. But the problem is just the trunk popping out of the latch. Not actually being held up

@@BrosFOURRSpeed right I'm noticing the same. I can already see this is going to be a love/hate relationship lol. Seems very temperamental. Having to reset all kinds of shit everytime the battery gets unhooked... I thought my windows were broken and airbag was busted. Turns out- just needed to be reset! Lol.. My syncro button however... This is the only thing I can't solve so far. The button straight up DOES NOT work. Nothing happens when I press it. I've taken the center piece out and it's plugged in. Hazards work. No idea how to fix this, refuse to take it to Nissan. Any thoughts on the matter? Just thought I'd ask 🤷🏽‍♂️

Good job .but as I remember this happend only the first time in the early cold morning. And when try to open the trunk, it open normally in the second time.now after this modification we need to try it next day morning as shoot us a video. One more thing I really don't understand why you remove the trunk cover ?just to test the weight of the door and lock mechanism

the force of the spring will reduce over time and you'll be in the same situation... not a permanent fix. best to replace the spring.

My 370Z Nismo has a much more annoying problem and I wonder if you have experienced it: Question - Does your shifter make terrible vibration noises - almost a light gear-grinding sound - during high revs (esp. when letting off the throttle)? I've seen some threads suggesting there is something non-mechanical between the stick and the gearbox itself making the noise. Maybe the guy before you had the problem and fixed it? I can't imagine living with that much longer! (Oh, and my trunk sometimes doesn't pop all the way open, but I rarely use it, so no biggie here)

Not yet, but plan to soon (when I'll be replacing conventional oil with synthetic). The noise is pretty bad and sounds like the shifter is going out, but I've seen threads that reference a shifter vibration, tho not sure if its as bad as mine. As a point of curiosity, got my Nismo as 'used' but it was only 10 months old with 1,500 miles (paid about $36k). Turns out Nissan Headquarters titles cars to "executives", then auctions them off to dealers (mine was one of these). A competing dealer suggested my car may have been used for display and track demos, meaning it could have been thrashed for its first several months. Never thought of that and sure hope it wasn't, but wondering if that would explain the shifter noise? Anyway, I find it odd a car company would do that, but apparently the dealer I bought from (Nissan of Richmond (VA)) gets a LOT of their cars thru Nissan auctions. Who knew...?

I tried the penny trick. But after about a month it started having the same issue. So I took them out, and waited a few weeks. Then put them back it, and it worked for another month. So it really needs some stronger springs.
