How To Fix The Click No-Start on a Mitsubishi 3000GT Build Part 8/18

This video shows a different approach to fixing the click click no start issue, as opposed to the forums that show a fix by installing a relay, a relay harness, welding wires, bypassing the relay, new ignition switch, new starter, new battery, and still the problem persists. With this fix you will never have this problem again.

Buggblasta thank you! You can always test your starter at a local parts store for free. It is very common for these cars to have the click no start issue though

I just replaced the battery in my VR4, and it had the exact same issue. I fixed this by push starting the car. It started immediately, and now it starts perfectly fine.

Jesse Hasch I’m not sure I understand, you did a rolling start? Where you pop the clutch? To be able to start your car, and you installed a new battery? Sounds like you had a bad battery. It’s definitely not the exact same issue as mine since I have a new battery. My problem was that the ignition switch was not sending enough current to my starter, there is a problem somewhere along the way in those connections, very common in 1st gens

And that might be my issue. The car won't start at all now. And there's a massive parasitic draw I have to deal with too. These cars are a handful

Great video!!! I am definitely going to do this to my 97 GTO. One question, did you have to run a ground from the push button ignition switch? Or it just the wires to the starter and battery.

Hi bro, I got a push start button, but mine came with a box from which several wires are coming out. Two of them are thicker so I am assuming those will be connected to the starter and to the battery respectively. There are some thin wires too, but I am assuming those are for the button’s illumination. Do you think that button could be used or should I get one that I can attach the wires to directly?

My setup is just a relay switch pretty much, you might’ve bought an actual push-start system, it’s a bit more complicated I would read the instructions to your system, every system is different

Sweet push to start button, so just a question does you car start with the key also, my car starts up fine with the key can i add a start button also or will that not work

Bravo's yes the key can still start it, but it is rarely able to do so, most of the time it doesn’t provide enough current to start the car. Yes you can add a button like this and you will be able to start it with button or key

It worked great for me! 2 years and still going strong without issues. I still sometimes try to start it with the key just to test it, but the original ignition system never worked again, it’s not strong enough to start the car anymore

Did you leave the starter relay in the fuse box? Does it matter?

Yes I didn’t mess with the original wiring, it’s all still connected, it rarely works though

Will the car start without pushing the clutch in? I am thinking it would have bypassed the clutch safety feature. I am curious to know.

rob banks it will turn on the starter, but the car will not start, the key has to be be in the ignition

rob banks I’m guessing pressing the clutch has an additional safety switch, but I wouldn’t be able to tell you since my clutch switch was already bypassed by the previous owner, I don’t know why

There are so many reasons for a car not to start, the most common one I personally see is dirty battery connections, just clean that and cars start right up. Next up would be a dead battery or a bad battery. I did this modification on the VR-4 because I exhausted all possibilities and narrowed it down to it being a faulty ignition system, very common on the first gens. I didn’t want to deal with all that old wiring so I just bypassed it and created my own ignition system
