What is SUD on a Samsung washer?
Why does my washing machine display SUDS on the screen? If your washing machine displays SUDS on the screen, it has detected an over-sudsing condition and will stop for a short period to allow the suds to dissipate. This error code is usually caused by too much detergent, or using the wrong type of detergent.
New model washing machines do not use a lot of water like their predecessors. Hence, they do not need a lot of detergents to clean clothes and so if you use more soap, it will result in excessive suds. This machine requires High-Efficiency detergent.
If you are using High efficiency detergent and the right amount and you are still getting the Sud Error code, then you need to clean your pump filter.
How to fix the error
Wait for a little for the suds to dissipate;
Clean the drain filter upon completing the wash cycle;
Remove excess powder by running the washing machine without clothes and setting a long wash cycle and high temperature;
Change the detergent if you notice a lot of suds.

Maaaaaaaaan this was so helpful!!!! I wish I could send pics. I opened up that drain line at it just rolled. Then I went to clean my filter (mind you I bought my washing machine off of a previous homeowner) not only was it clogged but whatever I pulled out of the filter I immediately had to flush. Use less detergent two tablespoons and clean the interior of you washer. Just a couple cups bleach in your drum. Skip the liquid fabric softener too. It’s bad for your machine as well

I have an older model Samsung front load high efficiency washer and experience the SUd condition often. The problem is, we only use one high efficiency members mark power pac pod for a very full load, vinegar in place of fabric softener so I am confident I am not adding too much soap. If it makes a difference, our machine model is Samsung VRT he front load white color. I often run self clean and regularly clean the hose and filter. Seems this one is a bit too sensitive? I really miss the older top load regular washer.

I made the mistake of pausing it while I drained the water and cleaned the filter (I found a baby sock in there) and then I pressed start again and it was still reading SUD so I powered off and back on and then set it to rinse and spin (where it had left off) and looks like it’s working again. I came across this video because my washer displayed “Removing detergent suds”. This is the first time I got it, and I know it’s because I used too much Tide HE detergent with a huge load of towels. I put way more detergent than I usually do. Also, about two weeks ago, I cleaned out my filter without using the hose. I didn’t realize that it was to drain the residual water as I didn’t look where the end of the hose ran to. So, I ended up with water all over my floor. Not too much tho, thank God. I think I’m going to read the user manual now. 😂 Take care!

So, I did a self cleaning with vinaigre, cleaned the detergent dispenser with vinaigre, cleaned the filter, checked the drain that was not clocked. After all of this, the machine still gives me SUD and won't complete the cycle using minimal he detergent. Is there some sort of sensor that could be failing and causing this? What else could it be? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, you can use the emergency hose pipe to drain the water from the drum before opening the filter

Sorry to hear that. It could be that a small item of clothing or a piece of loose hardware got jammed in the space between the basket or behind the drum. I'm soon sharing on this issue. If the error does not reset itself, you may have a faulty foam sensor or pressure switch. You may want to have it checked.

So what if there are suds. Sadistic Samsung engineers invented suds detection using the acceleration sensor..but why? So they can charge twice as much for HE detergent? When my washer flashes the code, I don't see any suds in there. It's bogus.

Hello Aigbokhan, I'm sorry for what you are going through. While the suds error code usually occurs as a result of using too much detergent or the wrong type of detergent, it may also be as a result of clogging in the drainage system. Now if you removed and cleaned the detergent draw like in my video, as well as the pump filter, and you are still getting the error, it could be as a result of a partial obstruction in the hose or branch pipe. You need to clean this parts as well. Simply disconnect the drain hose from the machine and clean it using a wire. In the case of the branch pipe, take it out of the washer and clean it. The easiest way is to access it through the bottom of the machine as follows: 1. Put the washing machine on its side; 2. Remove the bottom carefully if there is any; 3.Loosen the pipe clamps attaching the branch pipe to the tub and the pump; 4. Wash the element and reinstall it. If after this process your machine still displays the SUD error, you need to seek professional assistance as it could be a malfunction of the foam level sensor or the pressure switch is broken which need replacement. Good luck!

Just give it time, the suds will dissipate and the machine will continue working. However, after you complete cleaning the clothes, you can follow the instructions in this video to make sure you do not get the SUD error again.

I did all of this and it didn’t work so I tried adding more water inside to get rid of the suds and then emptied the water again. Still didn’t work. Left it off for 10 minutes to let the suds go away, still nothing. Finally decided to unplug it for 10 minutes and it finallyyyyy went away 😕

Samsung website lists different ways the machine will spell out suds, yours is there as well. I'm having this issue often while not adding more than only 1 pod and a super load. It shouldn't do that in this condition.

So if you try all these things and it still doesn't work... try unplugging the machine for about a minute and then plug it back in. Tried it on mine and presto it's working again. Might as well spread the word

Hi, don't turn off, just give it sometime and the SUDs to dissipate. However, after completing the cycle, its advisable to clean your pump filter, remove excess powder by running a long cycle with no clothes, and on high temperature.. You can also change the detergent if you notice a lot of suds

@@exactprecisions hey even though i’m a week late 😂 i just want to say that mine wouldn’t stop rinsing either! i watched another video and realized that i could just pause it, turn it off, and turn it back on again. run the rinse cycle, and let it finish that way… i was panicking because i thought it was stuck
