I have an Axeman,s golf grip Chris that i hold all my clubs with. My right hand is above my left-hand holding the club in hand at address and delivery on every shot I take in Golf. I have tried holding the club with the proper and correct right handed grip , but cannot make it feel comfortable or natural and I would like to ask you , if you have seen or encountered this with any other Golfers before? If so , Is it rare to see someone manage their game around the course with this method of griping the club and being consistent. If so , what did they do to correct or refine this method to enable them to play better overall as well as whether they adapted this unique and unusual approach to good scoring Golf tournaments and rounds. I was told I lose a bit of power and distances in my Driver and long irons due to my wrists crossing over each other at address of the ball , but once the swing is completed at release my wrists are not crossed over at the extension of follow through and feel great extension and release apon impact of the Ball I am reasonably consistent and fairly longer than average with the Driver with straight drives approx 75% of the rounds i play. However I have to be mindful of slicing my drivers occasionally when I fully try to rip it of the tee box. Is there anything I could try to focus on in my swing without reverting to a new grip and muscle memory ? Or is this just a case of go with what works for me and if its not fully broken , then don't try to fix it Scenario.? Thankyou for any advice you could give me or input you could give a 50 year golfer that loves the game more than life itself and being out on the course is my favourite place in the world on any day in any conditions. I have been playing like this since I was 10 years old. Thanks Mate
I would say it depends if the overswing is done correctly then its no overswing. Just like bryson and other long drivers doing long long backswing and some call it over swing but it helps generate power and also a fast backswing can help with power because the shaft gets more energi when it gets bent alot so it will go like BOOM when you hit the ball.
Is the early weight shift specific to the Driver though or it applies to irons equallty? (as I can see the advantage of being on back foot when hitting up on ball)
I just went for a lesson and my coach told me to not laterally shift to the right. He said I should shift the weight to the right foot but I shouldn’t see visually a lateral shift to the right. I’m so confused, what’s the right answer?
All excellent points. The one I need to work on is the shift to the right… I need to get away from it feeling like a lateral sway away from the ball. Always practiced moving the right hip straight back . Thanks for your continued insights to the golf swing. Tom
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone hold a club up in the palm and having tried it myself (out of curiosity) it feels so awful and weak I think you’d just automatically know that’s wrong?? Left hand too weak versus neutral versus strong is a completely different story.
You could definitely see these power leaks in your irons! Though, I would say be careful when applying #3. We can afford to move laterally with a driver because it is teed up. Lateral movement with your irons makes it very difficult to time your strike. Oftentimes, as a result, you'll see golfers chunking or thinning shots when weight moves too far off the ball.
Serendipity !! my leak is number 3 because I've been told to keep most of my weight on the front foot it has kept me from that weight shift, restricting me to only 250Y drives . you broke this drive down as well as it could be with out getting protracted !! well done . and thank you very much mate. cheers !!!
Hey Chris. Thanks for the effort that you put in these videos. They're helping me so much! As a side comment, I would ask you to consider some content where we see you in the field, from start to end of the course. I don't care if you strike 70 or 90! But I would love to see your tips in real life environment, how to recover from a bad shot, etc... It would be so entertaining, and at the same time it would surely engage even more persons to subscribe into your channel. Please consider it (or reconsider, if you thought about it already) 🙂
Hey Tiago, I have done a few videos like that….. but a few years back now. I will look to create some content like this but courses don’t tend to play too well through our winter so may be one for next year 👍
Ok Chris a couple things:1 to get that width you turn the shoulders or swing arms, Rory looks as if he does arms.2. I thought we wanted to be centered not move off the ball? Thanks
For me, tension leads to the second two power leaks that you discussed. If I allow my backswing to occur, rather than forcing it, those power leaks fix themselves.
Great tips Chris - the third tip most applies to me but I come off too much and don’t shift my weight forward on downswing. Means club is closing at impact and getting a lot of strikes heel side 👍
I can see this being quite dangerous for amateur golfers. You're encouraging their hips to slide and their head to move which is rage contrary to traditional approaches and may affect their consistency instead. How would you suggest reconciling the two conflicting views?
If they over slide then yes this can be costly, but not so much with the driver with the ball on the tee. I’m not advocating a slide, just an early weight shift to get the swing started 👍
Thanks Chris, my left arm has a slight chicken wing through impact with driver. I think I fixed everything and it might just be from habit. I’ll keep working on it. Though sometimes I wonder if the driver head and force is too much for my left elbow joint. It doesn’t really happen with other clubs.
I’m a 34 yr old amateur, averaging around 270 with driver-without looking at my swing-is 300 a realistic goal (love hitting bombs as much as anything in golf)?
Hey Matt, personally I’d be more concentrating on continually increasing the distance you hit it rather than focusing on an end number. Find out where you can improve, make those changes and then repeat the process, you may well end up over 300 👍
@@rajand1872 You’d be wrong lol. Thanks for the low guess, but I play at a 12 from the tips. Not that I don’t enjoy the short game, but I don’t tend to take advantage of my distance like I should-leave a lot of birdie putts out there and struggle to get 3’s. Like I said, my interest in golf started with hitting bombs.
Chris, firstly I would like to compendious on an excellent training and practical demonstration. I am a right hand golfer that has always held any bar or club with my right hand on top of the golf grip with my left below opposite to the correct right handed golfer. I have managed my golf around a muscle memory that will always be the way I hold the clubs and play Golf. Is there any advice you could help me with apart from changing my grip from what I call the axemans grip. I do play well for an amateur especially putting and short game. I feel like I've lost power through these "leaks"
