Chiropractors can be great but not a solution since they don't usually address the ROOT issue. Its typically not the bones, its the muscles that need to be addressed otherwise the problem persists and they get lifetime repeat customers ;)

Thank you! I’ve had hip/low back pain for so many years and went to a number of drs, speciality drs, orthopedic drs and pain clinics and none of them even offered to look at the evenness of my hips! This s my problem and has been all the time. Why no doctors look for this problem is beyond comprehension because I can bet many people suffer from this too. Thank you for trying to help those of us that suffer from this!

You gotta remember that in today's society, Dr.'s are taught to basically just give patients drugs instead of fixing a problem. The more our disgrace society goes on, Dr.'s will become less and less Dr.'s and become just prescribe-rs of drugs

This is a great vid. Been dealing with back pain for about 2-3 years, a few months ago chiropractor told me I have a pelvic tilt causing one leg to be shorter than the other (did the rough eyeball test from this vid and we're talking like an inch difference). After 5 min of doing these stretches, my hips are basically even and 90% of my pain is gone. Wish I found this video earlier.

I went to a chiro twice for this exact issue. On my last visit I asked as I was leaving if there was anything in my life that I could be doing that might be aggravating this. His reply was that there were "So many things it could be, we don't have time to go through all your activities." NEVER going back. IF you don't have time for me, I would rather have months of pain than put another dollar in your pocket. Thank you for this video. I will try these stretches out.

Did you have 2-3 hours to go through everything properly? More importantly did you want to pay for his time to do it thoroughly? These things are not black and white, even if many of thse youtube video's present them that way. There are some patterns, but if you knew that your pelvic imbalances can be an effect of an anteriorly displaced talus bone in your foot, to a rotation at the thoraco-lumbar junction, to a rotation at the atlanto axial joint, and so forth, then you can't expect a simple fix in even a 30 minute solution. Many times a practitioner can put the pelvis back into alignment with a variety of techniques, one of which is muscle energy technique, or even a stretch specific to those shown in this video, only to see it undone again. That's when the therapist needs to look up or down the chain. It doesnt happen in one session. Your problem could be a result of many years of dysfunction and only recently the dysfunction turned into an issue in the tissues that were overloaded and started to break down. Expecting a miracle response in 2 sessions is a pipe dream. Clients like you are just as frustrating as practitioners who don't have reasonable amount of time to explain things, but what your chiropractor told you was not unreasonable at all.

Hi M.B. I whole-heartedly agree with your explanation. I have been a manual therapist myself for many years and so many people come with a physical problem and want to be fixed, sometimes just in one session. There can be so many different reasons for the pain like emotional, psychological, or spiritual.
@dbag57

Key thing is, you asked as you were leaving. I assume you had paid for an hour of their time? If you had asked nearer the beginning of the session they might have had more time.

Sorry to hear that, find another one theres plenty :) ! This video just hit me right in the face. I have always leaned on my left elbow while sitting at work the PC at home AND like an idiot, i always had my wallet in my right back pocket while seated. Years of this led to a higher right hip. Thought it was leg length discrepancy for ages until it was dismissed by my physio when he actually lay me down and measured from top of femur to heel, both legs the same length. I obviously caused structural change from years of having the right side raised by my wallet(s) and me leaning on the left side. !

Oh my god! I have been struggling with this issue for twenty years through multiple therapists of various types and not once, not ONCE, did anyone ever suggest the cause might be side sleeping. I've side slept on one side my entire life! I could never understand why even when I made progress correcting this problem it would always reset. Hoping this might be the answer! Sorry for all the exclamation marks, but this info might be huge for me. My whole left leg feels compressed from twenty years of this pelvic tilt, hiked up on the right side. Do you think that is just the glute or does this sometimes effect the other leg muscles on the lower side too? Thank you so much. I'll report back, because this issue has pushed me out of every physical activity I ever loved for most of my life, so if changing my sleeping position is the answer after all these years I'll be sending you some type of gift!

I'm not sure if I have the same problem but have noticed that every time I squat, only my right heel lifts up and feel pain in my knee and leg. It's even affecting me when I run and stretch and only my right leg feels it, specifically my knee and even more specifically, the right side of my knee, on the "walls". I've always kind of felt my right leg is longer, or at least stronger but don't really know how to pinpoint the problem. Could it be uneven hips?

The higher hip has the longer leg. Its counterintuitive because the femur ball socket is freed up and hangs more while the lower hip pulls in the femur ball socket inwards and hence shorter.

@interactazhar
@interactazhar 8 лет назад
Just a correction. High hip side normally has a longer leg because of forward rotation of the pelvis P.S: I don't have an anterior or posterior pelvic tilt. I have a lateral pelvic tilt to right with my right hip higher and rotated forward making my right leg longer than the left.
@KevinSmith-qt4hz
@KevinSmith-qt4hz 7 лет назад
Not if it's a pelvic issue. The legs will be the same size, however, the pelvis will be tilted and the muscles and tendons will be elongated.
@m.b.9474
@m.b.9474 7 лет назад
Kevin, he (Ashar) even said "forward rotation of the pelvis" which is an anterior rotation and yes that will make that side higher, and the leg longer. It will cause some muscles on one side longer and the other side (of the frontal plane) shorter. Think of the body in 3d

Interesting! I didn't know my pelvis was off until I was in physical therapy for foraminal stenosis in the lower spine. The PT had me do some other pelvic correction exercises, though I think these stretching exercises would help, too. The problem is, I don't remember which side was higher! (And I can't find the DVD of my x-rays or MRI (maybe I should get another copy!). I do know I had some scoliosis in the lower spine - probably for my entire life. The big news is - I was measured at my doctor's office last week and I'm 1/2 inch taller! I asked them if the height thing on their wall is accurate, and they said it was recently verified by a tech. I'm wondering if the exercises have helped the scoliosis straighten out a bit. People my age are often shrinking in height, not getting taller!

This is awesome. Have yet to try the stretches but every single piece of information regarding the anatomy, causes, and symptoms is spot on with my situation (lower shoulder on the same side, side sleeping, etc.). I appreciate you creating a narrative for me to understand something that I've been dealing with for years, being consistently told by 2 physical therapists, an orthopedist, an exercise scientist, and yoga instructors that I have IT Band Syndrome and simply need to foam roll, stretch, and do a million hip abductors - all to extremely transient relief and no long-term progress whatsoever. Again, thanks for this.

When you did the first stretch you showed your left side being tight. You then went on the medicine ball and laid down with your left side on the ball, wouldn't that be stretching out your right side?

lateral pelvic tilt can also cause scoliosis
@m.b.9474
@m.b.9474 7 лет назад
it can help if it's a functional scoliosis but you have to address the cause. If it's a structural scoliosis, you can't fix it by correction pelvic rotations or upslips.

Michael B i have s curve and anterior pelvic tilt and also my left side of the leg is kinda more open then the right.that's why i have slight kyphosis.But i don't know if i have structural scoliosis or functional.i'v searched and they say that funcional scoliosis doesn't cause rotation of the spine,while i have my left chest more forward then the right one.so is it possible that functional scoliosia caused chest rotation? or it's structural scoliosis?
@jajoriaabhishek

Giorgi Khachidze I also have the same problem which you have described but it is on my right leg which is open outwards and my left chest is also more forward than right . What i have is a functional scoliosis due to bad sleeping posture .

wait, so if my right leg is shorter i must bend to left ? i didnt understand that .
@genevievechasse
@genevievechasse 8 лет назад
yes, on the side where your hip is higher, your leg should be shorter. Higher hip means less space between hip and rib cage, so you want to stretch that part. So in your case, with a shorter leg on the right side (like me!) you must bend to the left when stretching. And look for tightness on your left butt cheek...

great video! I figured I've had a pelvic tilt on and off throughout my life. Chiropractic care & massages has helped. Question for you though I have done the self-assessment and I'm having a hard time figuring out if one side is higher than the other the pain is highly radiant in my right hip however it almost looks through my assessment that it's my left hip that is slightly higher but my left hip feels great right hip not so much. So I'm a bit confused any suggestions?

Wow this video is so helpful, thank you for making it, aNd for linking it in your most recent video 10/30 My right hip is hiked up because I'm a left side sleeper... Because of this I was misdiagnosed with LLD... My right hip is hiked up , right ribcage is very tight and right shoulder rounds forward and down My question is: after addressing the hiked up and hiked down hips, how can I address the hiked down shoulder? ( the shoulder on the same side as my hiked up hip) Also, please do a video addressing a straight neck! I have straightened cervical vertebrae and I would like to fix it since I'm at the gym 5x a week anyways! To;Glad I subscribed

What if the pain is not on the side that is hiked up but on the one that is hiked down?
@khomatech6428
@khomatech6428 7 лет назад
that's because the side that's hiked down will be bearing more of the load and becomes tense and painful as such. roll it out.

i seem to be experiencing some type of muscle and joint condition, but no tests have confirmed anything. for the last 4-5 yrs i've been dealing with extremely tight lower back, hip and leg muscles. I went from being very active to barely being able to move to sometimes i have strength, mobility and some flexibility one day and then suddenly it's gone and then i have terrible stiffness and pain in my back, side, hip joint and legs. although i experience the stiffness and limited range of motion in both legs and hips. most of the pain seems to be on the right side from the middle back kidney area, lower back, abdominal unexplained (spasms/cramps) from time to time, hip, knee and ankle. I've changed my diet and have become vegetarian for the most part eating chckn n fish once in a while. my joints, muscles and tendons just seem like they're dry-rotted. my elasticity just suddenly disappeared and now they feel dry and cracking all the time. even my spine from time to time would just get stiff and crunchy feeling like sand is in my joints. my muscles are constantly burning and fatigued even when i'm not working out. I started improving two yrs ago, but suddenly it started again and i can't seem to figure it out. Any suggestions or tips you can offer to help me improve my condition would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Good suggestions. I like how you stayed practical without getting too technical. I have scoliosis and have always had pelvic asymmetry. I've had physicians, chiropractors, physical therapist, insole makers, and others point it out and all have various opinions about 'fixing' the problem. Personally I think instead of fixing such issues, it is better to just be aware of them and work stretches/exercises to minimize the negative impact they have. It can get frustrating for a person to hear they need to be 'fixed' or to spend a lot of money trying to fix the problem and not get results. Physical therapist that have good neuro-muscular training usually have a pretty realistic view of these issues and how to best address them.

Would I be right in saying that this is a problem that will gradually get worse with age? I'm 16 so mine doesn't appear that severe but when I go into a Russian twist position my right leg is visibly shorter and my right side is generally tighter than my left but it's not very obvious when I'm standing and I did the finger thing and my hip isn't actually that much higher on the right side.

@K1H70
@K1H70 7 лет назад
dana barchi If it's minor and you're still growing, a doctor can prescribe a little foot lift for your shoe and some exercises. If not, you have the option of a leg shortening or leg lengthening operation, both with downsides but corrective
