How to fix USB mouse micro stutter & lag problems in Windows 11
If you are experiencing the odd tracking behaviour of your Windows 10 or 11 mouse, then this video should be just what you need to either solve it, or at least confirm that your mouse is dying!
In the video we start off with some common problems and tips to solve them.
Also we we show you in detail how to get our hands dirty and make windows forget and then reload our Windows USB device drivers.
Make sure you have saved all you work because we will lose the ability to use the mouse and keyboard before we get to the end.
You can also check with your specific motherboard manufacturer to see if they have a custom or bespoke driver for your motherboard. It is becoming rare but does happen.

Genuinely thank you for this. I honestly glossed over removing the drivers at first because it seemed like a generic solution that normally doesn’t solve anything, but it fixed it for me. Didn’t even notice this stutter on Windows itself but I noticed it on one specific game where I’d move my mouse

The power button will normally be configured to execute shutdown, but can be configured to do other things like sleep, and that is for a quick press - and a good way to attempt shutdown on a system which is not responding to CTRL ALT DEL. The other action, which you do not want to trigger in this case, is the 4 second hold which will force an immediate power off - use as an alternative to RESET if a system is incapable of responding even to the quick press

i am having a similar issue but only if i open a second tab and each scroll is glitchy or my sound will keep muting with mouse movement for a split second i changed ports etc but its come back im suspecting Bluetooth reciever thanks for the info as always Mike and Kath

I was hoping there would be some real software test for mouse stutter, and then you just started spinning your mouse on the Desktop just like I do 😆 Crap we're all in this together. Thx for the vid, I am going to try to get a nice wired mouse

I followed everything from uninstalling the extensible host controller up to directly shutting down pc from the case button. But after the restart my mouse pointer is still not present but my keyboard is working. I had to unplug the mouse cable and replug just to make it work again. Is that alright or do I need to try the full method again?

The tip about the wireless frequency was spot on. Switched to a wired mouse and Viola! problem solved. i assume if wired it not an option, bluetooth could be, correct? Thanks!

yes that is right, almost all mouse wireless signals are in the 2.4ghz range which is really over crowded and easy to get interference for other pcs and household appliances

When I uninstalled the extensible host controller the wired mouse and keyboard both did not turn back on after the restart. Any advice when you encounter this problem? Because now I’m extra stumped and instead of a slow mouse, I have no control

that sounds like a USB 3 controller, so try plugging into a usb 2 port and you should be able to use the mouse then update the drivers from the motherboard manufacturers website

Mine doesn't stutter or lag but somehow it barely even moves, i even adjustedthe mouse pointer speed and its still the same

Nice explanation. USB is great, but a lot of crap gets loaded onto the USB system. Says me typing and mousing via a USB external hub. But it is at least a powered hub and connected to the back of the PC.

USB devices in Device mngr always worried and confused me 2bh. So many listed I dare not touch them. Strangely I dont get mouse issues, its always keyboard both on B450 and less so on B550. All devices wireless though. Plus only 6feet away from PC but as you stated Mesh is close by! Will give this a go as windows lists two kbs! Thanks for tutorial Mike and Kath 👍

Didn't work for me. The stuttering only occurs when there is something happening, like opening google chrome, clicking on a link or other actions as such. When nothing is going on, the mice is smooth. I just updated from windows 10, didn't have that issue with it, I got 2 brand new mice which I both tried and both do that same problem that I didn't have on win10. I'm about to revert back to windows 10...

Try a windows 11 repair install from windows update and get the newest chipset and usb drivers

Could this solve game controller issues playing games on PC? It only happens with a specific game, but I don't think it's the game itself since others I ask it's not happening to them. It unfortunately doesn't seem to be an issue on other games. I have been adding and removing quite a few devices, trying on headsets, mics, new controllers etc. And I pretty much always have this game up since I stream and wanna test them while playing the game etc. Could they have interfered with the game and messed things up in a way? I'm not sure what to remove here. The controller seems to be Human Interface Devices specifically the HID-compliant game controller, and this does go away when I unplug it. There are quite a few things greyed out when I show the hidden devices, some I know I have and just have unplugged etc, but some I recognize from things I've used in the past and either returned or have no plans on using them again. Would removing them cause any issues? Or do you think it could be something else? I also thought about doing a system restore as well, but unsure.

Test it by moving the mouse very slowly now 😉 they all seem like they atutter doing that haha. Jumpy one would say. Haha I believe thats just normal though.

I have had a problem with my b650 tomahawk wifi for 3 days, it only happens when I am playing a game. I hear a usb plug and unplug sound and therefore the logitech driver is disabled and it works like a flat mouse until the dip setting is adjusted and the stuttering continues. I reset win11 and it is the same. I set the bios back to old version 4 and it is the same. I plugged in another flat mouse and it is the same.

difficult to say without seeing it, but if the usb sometimes malfunctions it would seem either a usb device or maybe one of the ports is failing. try using just one port if possible and switch the port until you find the faulty one, or if they all become faulty it is likely the mouse
