HOW TO FIX WIRE FEED ON MIG WELDER

How to fix your mig welder with wire feed problems.
Easy fix, just need a scrap piece of metal, with some holes drilled and a hammer to convince it to turn into the shape you need lol.
This was a non working machine that had been abandoned because of infamous wire feed problems, just as most cheaper chinese imported mig welders experience.
So rather than purchasing a new one to just go bad again, just mod it.
So if you have a "CRAPPY OLD WELDER" , that has issues with stuttering wire, or the wire keeps burning to the tip, or various rates of speed at the wrong time, this could be the cure to getting it running smoothly like it should.
If this helps you in anyway or you manage to resurrect your machine, consider leaving a thumbs up or a comment to let me know.
Thanks

I've got the gas only version of this and it's been a pain in the ass trying to get it to run properly. When it decides to work it's good and it will weld 0.7 to 0.8mm Honda/Rover panel steel but it seems to change settings overnight and the next day it will burn through even if nothing has been adjusted. I fitted a metal strap to the wire feed mechanism which helped, I also replaced liner and swan neck liner with metal Clarke liners. It also helps if the wire feed motor gearbox is regreased. When I took my one apart, the old grease had dried into semi soft crumbs. I cleaned it out and re-packed with ceramic brake grease. However the biggest issue is the pulsing motor which bogs down when the arc strikes on low settings. I need to work out how to give the motor a dedicated power feed. I've seen some info on the migwelding forum but it's vague and the photos aren't clear.

Awesome! I've got and old NAPA Welder "Made in Italy" which looks very similar to this, with feed issues. I'm thinking this may be the issue! Great video and great deal you got!

I think these work off of a big single phase transformer some models have problems with wire feed as the motor draws from the same transformer when you start welding the voltage drops to the wire feed motor causing it to stutter. There's a work around where you can set it up to run off of a separate dedicated 24v power supply so the motor always gets the same power.

I have one of these but the wire feed motor doesn't turn at all. I think its a problem with a connection in the gun. I stripped the gun and there is an unconnected white wire. Looks like it has disconnected from something but no idea what it goes to.

I was experiencing that with the cheap welding helmet I was using, either mega dark, or it blinded me. Lol Just stick with epoxy Malc, it sticks well and you get to keep your eyes. Hope you are keeping well buddy. 👍👍👍

Hi great video, I picked up one of theses a while back but the mains wire was cut off , can you please tell me does it operate on a standard 13 amp plug ? Mine had a problem with the hand gun to but I got it sorted.
@oraclescave
@oraclescave 2 года назад
Yes it's 13amp plugset Also places that re-sell things electrical usually chop the wire off, as they can choose to do this or pay for P. A.T testing, before reselling. But yes standard 13amp. 👍👍👍

Turn your wire reel over so the wire comes off in a straight line to the drive rollers.
@oraclescave
@oraclescave 4 года назад
Well spotted, lol, that's not how I have it, I put the gas wire in for the demo, I never realised it was around like that. I use flux cored wire and it always comes from the top directly into the feed rollers. I was just rushing around and must have thrown that reel up twisted. But well spotted eagle eyes 👁👁 👍👍👍

These welders are known for circuit board issues and large capacitor failures. I personally would have thought polarity was bad, maybe you have a faulty earth wire. 👍👍👍

Sip wire comes of the bottom as the sticker states on the welder - it’s a design error

Maybe your micro switch in your trigger is a bit worn out. Open your trigger handle up and check it out, maybe spray some lubricant on it, but replacing it should be very cheap and easy. Check the micro switch for a model number and search ebay for it.

Why is my flux going right through my rubber it isnt feeding into the tube?
@oraclescave
@oraclescave Год назад
There is an inner tube that is inside your rubber that the flux core wire travels through. Maybe it has bust loose. You can open the handle up or get it from the other end. The part is called LINER, search it on youtube, there will be videos showing you whats happened. Mig welder liner problem... is what you should search, this will show you what's up and why it's happening bud, they need changed now and then so if its broke you know it can be replaced, but there might be away to fix yours back on so give it a search on youtube for the LINER, just an internal tube for the wire, and that should help you out. Let me know how you get on bud

hi mate got the same welder as you,need your help mate are are two back wire comeing from the lance/torch,where do they go in the welder.it came like that to me,john
@oraclescave
@oraclescave 2 года назад
Ahhh, I don't have that welder anymore, and I'm sure mine only had one black wire, but not totally sure. But the black wire most likely goes to somewhere on the backside of the SPEED CONTROL/FEED RATE Just a shame I don't still have it, or I could have just opened it and been totally positive on my answer. But yes check for connections and the back of the speed control, but it will be on the top left of the machine from the front you look at.
