Thanks for this informative video. Regarding your tip about tree competition and yellowing I noticed that I've got areas of my lawn in the Coastal South where the St Augustine was a deeper green in late winter and then as both the St Augustine and the trees emerged from winter dormancy the new growth is coming in a little yellowish. This is also occurring in sections where I have Zoysia and Centipede (Heinze 57 lawn) The surrounding trees are all trying to flower and put out new foliage so I'm suspecting they are really competing with the grass right now for iron which also has a tendency to leach out pretty rapidly in our sandy soil. Time to put out some ironite!
I hear ya. Exact same issue here to a tee. I've got 2 huge oaks trees in my yard and the nutrients get taken very easily by the trees. Grubs will also cause the yellowing. I've hit it with grub killer, fungicide, and iron. I think mine was both a fungus and nutrient loss issue. Still working on it.
Thanks for the video. I live in SE Texas and my subdivision looks similar to yours. I have a 3ft. sq. patch that has been destroyed by brown/large patch. Luckily so far I was able to cut out and isolate that patch from spreading. But after mowing this weekend at my normal height I have noticed all of my grass has started to yellow. The blades are still thick though. I have not applied any iron, nitrogen and proper watering all season long and think this has contributed to my lawns appearance. Thanks for the tips You have given. I will try and see what happens.
I had St Augustine on my front lawn and developed tarr. Eventually, bermuda took over, and after mowing every 3 to 4 days, my lawn looks like a goft field now. To me, St. augustine is more suseptible to diseases and requires more water. I do have 90% St Augustine in the back lawn that grows well except has some non dying yellow blades in the same are every year while the rest is green. I applied a fungus control because if it's iron deficiency it would be the entire lawn that is deficient and not partially.
Thanks for the great video. I am quite into lawn care and have many of the "good products" from domyown such as Armada, Prop, Azoxy, and Eagle 20EW. I also fertilize on schedule four times a year. I also treat with Bifenthrin every six weeks. I do not irrigate daily; rather, I only irrigate when the grass appears dry. I fertilized about 6 weeks ago (with Lesco 26-2-11) and the grass continues to yellow and get a bit less plush in certain areas, but does not die. I live in South Florida and have very sandy soil here that when it dries out, can feel like dusty powder. Does this sound like a fungus or a nitrogen/iron issue? Would greatly appreciate the input.
Nice videos. What kind of fertilizer would you recommend for dry summer in st. Aug grass getting some yellow spots with the change of the season and even a couple brown spots that I haven't been able to shake. Thinking about incorporating compost after watching your previous video, it had actually been recommended to me before.

I will say though, if you have brown spots with yellow spots, it sounds like you have a fungus that might be slowly killing your grass. I would try using a fungicide like: amzn.to/2QUryvk As far as the fertilizer, I use Milorganite for all my fertilizations except for when I am winterizing in the fall.
I need your help regarding my St.Augustine grass that is dead. I live in Texas where it has been 100 plus degrees. My grass is dead to where you can see the soil and there is a lot of yellowing as well. Please help I do not know what to do to bring my grass back.

YES! I am sorry, I completely forgot about that when making this video.. That is a VERY good point. You are correct, the grass will turn yellow, brown, and die... this will kill a lawn pretty quickly. I should have discussed this in the video as well, I just didn't think about it.
Hello My Lawn has alternate rows of green and yellow. The house was built 3 months ago its a new lawn and I have put iron and fungus control as recommended 5 days ago I see a lot of brown spots too can you recommend what needs to be done here??

You can fertilize now but the type of fertilizers changes depending on the time of the year. At this time, you need to be winterizing your grass and so you want to apply a low Nitrogen fertilizer to prepare it for the winter month(s). If you are having issues with yellowing grass, then you will want to find a winterizing fertilizer that has Iron in it as well.
@@gerardogutierrez8342 That’s what you want to use during the year all except for now. Right now you need to use a winterizing fertilizer that Scott’s Wintergard Fall Fertilizer. This type helps the grass grow better roots to survive the winter instead of green growth. What you bought is perfect to fix yellow grass though since it is high in nitrogen and iron. If you are having bad issues with yellowing and you have a month or two before your first frost, you might be able to fertilize once with the milorganite before you do a winterizing one. It gets complicated when you are trying to fix a problem
