How To Flush Your Motorcycle Coolant w/ Engine Ice - Aprilia Shiver 750

I decided to flush out any old coolant on my 2013 Aprilia Shiver 750 from the previous owner and also wanted to try out Engine Ice since it seems to have good reviews.
I'm in central Texas so anything that helps cool things down is just fine by me!
For most Aprilia's, there is no coolant drain bolt on the water pump so you'll have to do this the messy way - just undo the radiator hose and drain out the old coolant.

I recently bought a used 2018 Aprilia Shiver 900, I'm in Las Vegas and the bike runs HOT. Especially on the warmer days, sitting in traffic is a nightmare and Im always staring at the temp gauge going higher and higher, is this a common thing in Aprilia's? Glad I found your video, going to do a full flush and throw in the best coolant I can find.

I would recommend it, it’s pretty common for any Italian bikes to run hot though, at least the shiver isn’t a super sport with fairings all over it to make it even hotter!

I have a shiver and YES, they run hot especially in traffic Watch when u start driving and watch temp drop.

Hi there Zach, I was just wondering what is the screen you have on your Shiver?

Hi! I bought a 2008 shiver just a couple of weeks ago and i really like it!! My plan is to be able to do the ‘simple’ maintenance chores myself and this was the first one! So, thanks a lot for explaining it in detail. I was wondering if it’s ok to mix different coolants together, Because i could not get all the old (blue) coolant out. After draining it with distilled water (twice) there was still some blue in the water when i drained it. After that i filled the radiator with the new (pink) coolant (coollmix g12). After reading some more about coolants, i’ve read a number of times that you shouldn’t mix pink with the blue coolant. So at the moment i have a feeling i have to do the whole proces over again and totaly drain the mixed coolants that are in the radiator at the moment. I’m curious what your opinion is! Greetings from Holland!
@moto.obsession
@moto.obsession 3 года назад
Yeah generally speaking, you aren’t supposed to mix different coolant types.

I have same bike. You DO NOT need expensive ice coolant. Regular coolant is just fine. If u were on the track ice is good but trust me u don't need it.

What about draining the overflow tank? The pipe to it has a metal clip that has to be cut to remove
@moto.obsession
@moto.obsession 4 года назад
Good question! I had the overflow tank drain into the radiator by not filling the radiator completely (when doing distilled water only) so any remaining coolant would flow from the overflow to the radiator/hoses/etc. - just went on some light runs after this. You can confirm this by waiting until the fluid draining from the main starts becoming clear with the overflow tank empty.
@ralphnicholson658
@ralphnicholson658 4 года назад
@@moto.obsession oh right, yeah I ended up syphoning it out, the previous red/pink coolant seemed to have stained the plastic of the overflow resivoir. Anyways, both the previous and new coolant are ethylene glycol based with OAT inhibitors so praying it doesn't sludge up as I read alot about the damege of mixing certain coolants
@moto.obsession
@moto.obsession 4 года назад
@@ralphnicholson658 Yep, mine is the same way, it's stained pink from the previous coolant!

Hey man how’s that engine ice working out for you notice any temperature difference? Does the fan kick on as much? I have a 2014 Aprilia shiver I bought in Bryan Texas.
@moto.obsession
@moto.obsession 3 года назад
I didn't take any reading off the motor with a temp gun but it did seem to run cooler overall. My fan still kicked on when I was sitting at lights and things like that but I don't think there was a single time I saw the coolant temp level go above three even on hot days (you what it's like here) when I was pushing it pretty hard.
@5.slow-ranger
@5.slow-ranger 3 года назад
Zackary Brown interesting because one day I was out riding and got stuck. Bad traffic dead stand still on I 10 and it was hot as balls and my bike started to over head and it got like on the max temp didn’t boil over or anything at all but did seem to run hot but as soon as I started moving it cooled right down I was looking at doing the engine ice or the red line water wetter
@moto.obsession
@moto.obsession 3 года назад
@@5.slow-ranger I think it's worth doing either way as it's very inexpensive and fairly easy to do (just messy).

would you recommend Engine ice. how's your bike running. Thanking to change and flush my aprillia 750
@moto.obsession
@moto.obsession 3 года назад
Yes, it did seem to help keep the temps down but the biggest improvement for lowering temps on the Aprilia Shiver was adding the FatDUC which richened up the fuel mix. When the Aprilia was running lean, it always ran hot.

Hi bro can u talk about the heat now . How it is comparing to your old coolant . I'm about to put that shit on my DUCATI Panigale V4 that bike is hot like Beyonce 's ass Kind regards with love from Paris

That’s a dream bike! I should have taken previous temps before swapping it out but I have noticed my temp gauge generally staying lower. My radiator fan seems kick on less as well but I’d say the overall temp hasn’t changed much. What I did find out is that these Aprilia’s run lean from the factory so I recently added an O2 Optimizer which has helped the engine temps go down significantly as well as run better in the lower RPM’s.
