Last fireworks I did was several years ago never got close to them. This year I was in Niceville and the wind was relentless and got the Evo up and then back down and said no way. Will do better next year for sure. Thank you Ken for your hard work on making this very informative video!!

I guess the winds must have been over 20 mph? My Evo 2 Pro has been stable even above 20 mph.

@@YellowRoseDrones It took off great but I was flying into the wind and it was pushing. Plus a storm was approaching and I was getting some gust from it. Plus dark and I didn't want to spend the evening looking for the flying orange brick.

I know you were busy but this time it may be a great time to teach upcoming drone pilots about drones. Kids are so impressionable and they really go home and talk about their experience they had with you. Who know they may grow up to be lobbyist for the drone industry some day. We need all the help we can get.

Dealing with kids gave me a chuckle. I used to run a live truck in news and sometimes kids will get behind the reporter on a live shot and make faces. So I'll pull out a spare camera and lead them towards me for a fake interview. "Now which one of you saw who fired the shots"...lol

I live in Louisville Kentucky and two weeks before the Kentucky Derby we have thunder over Louisville which is the largest firework show in the United States every year drones are absolutely prohibited it is an FAA TFR ! With a great drone show of its own hosting 40 or 50 drones in pre-organized pre-computerized flight programs it’s amazing

good inputs!, i use a LED flashlight from a Dollar store and set it to flash (those lamps are pretty useless) but if you just set it to flash and throw it on the ground, you can see/find/separate it really easy to find your landing zone. also, only do night flights with GPS, it saves you a lot of headaches when it comes to finding the initial direction to go to before the battery runs out. nice roundup on "common sense" in the end HAHA:)

The secret to flying near children is to bring a small screen that can show them your FPV feed. IF you ever watch mr steele, you will notice he has one atttached to his Controller, that is half the reason why its there.

The township I live in is scheduled to have the 4th of July fireworks in September, about .5 miles from my home (class G to 700). I'm going to try to film the fireworks from there, launching from my front or back lawn and staying straight above my property with the air 2S.

I recently got shots of fireworks for the first time. I was SUPER happy with the results. Not to toot my own horn or anything but it was some movie level stuff I think! And the best part... I never got hit! Even though I probably should have been... But hey sometimes luck is on everyones side at some point. Great video!

Lol. I had the same thing happen to me when I was shooting at an event on the 4th of July at a country club, and then later for the fireworks. And this little girl kept coming up asking if she could drive my drone. Fortunately, the guy with all the inflatable games came over with a golf cart and asked if she'd like to have a ride back to where her parents were, so she jumped on the golf cart and rode away. But I have that all the time, if I'm around any kids at all, they attract to me like a magnet.

Just started to fly my Contixo F18 drone again after 4 or 6 months ago. I only know how to fly the thing if the camera is facing away from me. If it’s facing me I will easily crash it.

The days of ground based photography of fireworks are over for the masses because some drone will be doing circles and flips with on board lights. Nice you hot to fly, sorry about the arm break but I hear that’s common for such flying. Nice of them to let you fly. I thought that was a grave yard behind you at first. You caught a Smoke ring up there shown shortly.

Thank you for this one Ken. Our local fireworks display is August 16th. Our town does it later in the year to get a much better price discount. I am doing some planning/preparation for the event as it will be my first time filming fireworks. Landing was a big issue in the dark but now have put a half sheet of plywood on the roof of my Jeep with LED lights surrounding it for a landing pad. I can see it from very far away so works great. Finding a area with no people may prove challenging tho. while I would like to get as close as possible the town has concerns about a shell hitting it and sending it into the crowd. You kno how it is trying to explain drone stuff to someone without a clue. they just think all drones are evil. Any tips on persuading the town in my favor?

My July 4th video just plain sucked; why? Thank you for asking! Because my Lume Cube position lights (green on right & red on left) died before I got close enough to the event. The only thing I had left was my strobe on top, so I immediately came back and landed. Live and learn! I’ve added to my checklist ✅ Fully Charged Lights.😜

4:00 - You should have gone into stabilize mode on the quad and set the throttle to a low value so it would land smoothly exactly where it was, no need to disarm, is it?

If you have your 107 and have completed ur recurrent, do you still need a daytime waiver from laanc? I was under the impression that once you did ur recurrent they dropped that requirement. Thanks, Love ur Content!

That is true. The FAA No longer requires 14 CFR part 107.29 waivers.

This is EXACTLY why I didn't fly when I got ro my destination to watch the local fireworks show. I had all my approvals and gear ready to go then a couple of families with kids pulled up. I knew as soon as I pulled it out the kids (and adults) would be a distraction for me.

I fly at night all the time. love flying at night here's a tip, look for lights or shadows remember where they are you can some what like how they use the stars to navigate. Two always have a flight plan to evacuate also when you fly over the fireworks pin point your location by eye. if you have sun light fly in sun set so you can remember where each light represent.. umm ken you can fly in pro fireworks you just mite get hit by stars or if you want also know the plan of the show so you know what firing and keep your distance but still be on the launch pad.. that be part of your flight plan.

I stopped flying when kids are around. And idiot people… they’ll always ask questions or want to see the screen. I don’t mind questions or screen watching, but they can be distracting when trying to work.

I took fireworks videos with my drone this year. Everything worked properly, but fireworks pics from the sky just plain suck. You have to be there or it could be a sparkler in a dark bedroom for all you know.

LAANC won't give approval for night operations yet. If you have taken your part 107 recurrent test, you are then authorized to fly at night in proper airspace and conditions..

here's a link to my Mavic Mini that got d trying to get the best shot, I dumped in the creek, a big time beginner mistake. I should had brought the drone to safety, I think it survived three or four tree branch hits before it gets taken out by the last one. I was facing the wrong way, instead of going backwards like I was supposed to I went forward because I forgot the drone was facing me. oops. MINI DRONE is still in the creek to this day. Find my drone takes me right to it, but its rough and deep water there. ty for listening, hopefully you can use this crash drone video.

Never work with animals or children….or drones….with kids…or….ah man…kids ffs….I remember I did a live show dressed in a full koala suit and the wee mofos were literally hanging from our tails, heads…me and big friendly panda had to go to therapy after that child trauma similar to a zombie horde attack😂🤣😜✌️

I know you love your FPV Ken, but if you used a GPS drone coming back to the launch pad wouldn't be a problem. Quite possibly could have been a better camera too. 😎👍🦘
