I travel multiple times a year from Seattle to the southern states with an eight pistol case(although i usually squeeze in 9!). It's always so funny to watch the eyes of the airline personnel when they open it. Way different when leaving Virginia or Arkansas though. They are more likely to appreciate the collection 😂. I also travel with pictures of my firearms on my phone along with serial numbers in case something gets "lost" by the airline. Great information in this video! In fact the entire channel is very good. I recently found it and will definitely continue to watch!
I'm a Customer Service Supervisor with American Airlines out of Philadelphia. Maybe in the future, I can give you some updated information about passengers traveling with firearms and the procedures we go through when traveling with firearms
I live in Seattle and worked at the air port and im going to say a lot of gun are stolen from the ground crew that loads the plane with luggage 🎯 I would have a locked suit case as well so they can’t even access anything inside 💯
Another HUGE recommendation is placing and AirTag in your luggage / firearm carrier. So when looking for the oversized luggage or regular luggage …. You have a near real time tracker to help you. Seriously … great advice and add an AirTag.
Mandatory separation of ammo when flying is untrue. It depends on the airline you're flying, which I stated. At the end of the video, I have my gun in the case WITH a box of ammo. I also have an additional case with more ammo. Refrain from spreading false information. Thanks for watching.
There has been some reports where counter staff and even TSA want you to open your bag and show them your weapon. There’s a reason why you put non TSA locks on the case. It’s to keep them out. The X-ray proves that the weapon is compliant and that’s all you should have to do.
That part about layovers is probably the most important one. The audacity of the airlines/airport handing you your bag, just to turn around and be locked up is crazy. That should be against the law.
@@alstontrainingsa lot of people get caught out there in Queens and upstate NY. They get arrested at the airport because NYS doesn’t recognize other states pistol licenses or permits
So much value in this video thanks a lot for making it. I'm flying out this weekend for the first time with my firearm. Just purchased and received a LifePod 2.0 and it's a pretty cool gun safe.
Never knew it was even possible, unless you was like an air marshall or something for the air line company. I probably wouldn't even try it either way, but it is nice to know that you can actually do it.
I have traveled several times to one or multiple firearms. The process of checking is mostly the same, but the scanning varies. I've traveled to ATL, LAX, LIT, and BNA. All except for ATl checked it and took it directly from there. ATL I had to walk it over and it was scanned right there and they took it from there once they scanned it. And by all means invest in an airtag,Til, or some other discreetly placed tracker in you case just in case. I am a huge proponent of using a lockable box that is also secured inside the suitcase with the cable wrapped through the metal rods for the handle. Then I lock the suitcase with keyed locks. It's funny as some of the desk clerks are aggy with damn near yelling when clarifying that you are declaring a firearm. Try to be discreet as it ain't nobody's business but that counter agent. And some have asked to see that it is separate and unloaded, while others are adamant after asking the questions and you signing the tag that you did what you were supposed to do. It is an easy process, but you need to be aware of the laws in the state that you are flying to and also what to as he mentioned about any layovers or delays, especially through restrictive states. Last note, don't dawdle when arriving at your destination, especially with a separate case. Bags and cases can grow legs. IJS Safe travels!!! Great video!
I remember when we used to fly with them loaded and unsecured in our checked bags. I was always nervous about it, but that’s how we did it and never had a problem. 😮
Excellent video. Liked and subbed. To emphasize the point about needing a ccw: I live in NJ and have a NJ CCW (and a few others). I would fly out of Newark with a firearm but never out of Laguardia or JFK. It is technically legal under federal law (legal in state of origin and state of destination) but people have gotten arrested.
Fantastic informative information. Excellent presentation. Thanks for sharing your “experience “. Love the kid story I laughed and rewound the video 3 times to hear that story again and again 😂
The FFL in my area (Jackson, WY) prefers that your FFL send your guns by either UPS or FedEx. That’s because 90+ percent of mail is delivered to P.O. Boxes here. Those that do send them by USPS will have them sent back. Also, to reiterate what the video said, Send your gun(s) through an FFL, lest they wind up being sent back, as well. Many FFL’s won’t accept transfers from private parties. Period.
AirTags are essential when I travel by air. If I don't trust the TSA or airlines with my underwear and boat shoes, I certainly can't trust them with my firearms. I've traveled with my rifles in a rifle case without any issues and didn't need to disassemble them. Adhering to the laws regarding travel is crucial. I frequently fly to and from California, where I have a CCW. However, due to the state's 10-round magazine limit, I have to switch magazines before my flights. I always discreetly open my bag to check that everything is intact before leaving the airport, but I NEVER take anything out.
You know what that don’t sound bad. And i actually own a AirTag but needs a new battery lol I’ll put it in my suitcase and had it over to them and track it when i get off my flight
The lanyard is a mere deterrent, if someone wanted to they could just cut whatever you had it attached to in the suitcase or just take the whole suitcase. 🤷🏾♂️ Liked the video and info, but I have enough trouble getting my undies on the plane, Betsy can stay home for a few days 😂
Airlines need to be more discreet when you’re declaring. I wouldn’t want anyone else on my flight to potentially see and know THAT bag has a firearm in it. I mean the bag just spits itself out on the baggage carousel at your destination. Anyone can grab it.
Thanks for your video Alston! Could you explain how it works when transporting weapons from another country to the US, whether by competition or by immigration. Thanks! Take care
Beware with MIA airport. OMG I had to walk from downstairs all the way upstairs to check on my firearms with the airline agent. Once TSA checked it out, I had to then walk to the other side of the airport to go through TSA to catch my flight. I barely made my flight.
Wow that looks easy, both informative and very entertaining video ( as always) on the declaration you showed on screen, top right corner- what is a PNR number? Thanks again for all you do!
Good Job, When I left Europe (Military) they had me give my Weapon to the Stewards who keep it until I departed Plane/? Wonder if this Procedure is still the same?
Do you at least peak in the bag before you leave to make sure nothing has been messed with? I get not taking it out but would like to know asap if someone messed with it
Current Common Carrier shipping and USPO current shipping info should have been mentioned. FFL to FFL shipping was explained well - however it was only (up until at least recently, if not currently) REQUIRED on a transfer of ownership of the firearm. Legal shipping "from yourself to yourself" to most states was possible by USPO for pistols, or Common Carrier for any firearm. Some of this may have changed and THAT is why I watched this video.
Just a clarification about LE who passed the Flying While Armed cert... Even if they have, a request for authorization sent to DHS has to be sent and approved for each specific flight leg for them to actually carry it, every time they want to.
I’ve traveled with my weapons for years and 100% of the time my luggage is brought out by a baggage handler and they require me to show identification before my luggage is released to me ensuring NO ONE can just grab my bag off of the baggage claim ramp where all the other luggage comes out. I too have individual air tags in my lock box so I know where it is from leaving to arriving.
I've been flying for years with mine. I walk in the airport, go to the desk and say "I'm also declaring a firearm". They grab a declaration tag and ask me to see the case, and "try to open the case" to ensure that it's locked. I've never been asked to open it. After that I put it back in my bag, and lock my bag with luggage locks.
Is it legal to fly with empty magazines in your checked luggage? Like not in your locked pistol box. For instance, I’m down in FL right now and my buddy gave me some magazines to a gun he no longer has and I am flying to CA next month, should I just mail them to myself, or is it ok to just put them in my checked bag?
I fly with my firearm frequently and in my experience recently, i have to pick up the checked bag from a specific location. I imagine the bag has been flagged by either TSA or the airline and not allowed to go through the regular conveyor. More than likely for security and theft prevention. Possibly someone grabbing it by mistake thinking its theirs as well.
Very, Very Nice Video for traveling with firearms. Flier’s should check the TSA Website and Airlines for information on flying with firearms. Would have been nice to see any interaction should you have to present your firearm key. Should the case needs to be opened for an inspection by TSA. I also recommend to try to have the pistol case not covered by ‘Hard Items’ like Computer’s, iPads, tools, make it easy for the X-rays to penetrate the gun case to see the firearm. This could cause an alarm on the baggage X-ray and possibly an inspection of the luggage and firearm (which will need to be open, possibly, many factors in that determination), Very interesting images and TSA can determine whether loaded or unloaded if properly packed and in many case’s clear the item should the system alarm on the item without opening the case. What is your thoughts on AirTag’s with the case? Watched a video in which they used such with their firearms and it seems like a great idea for a fairly low cost and a bit more security for tracking your item. Also should something come up missing, contact the airline and file a police report for possibly stolen item, (lots of bags look alike and can be picked up by wrong passenger and then returned later). Many airports have lots of cameras in the baggage area even TSA has them all over their areas of operation. Also contact TSA manage or TSA Customer Service Representative AT THAT airport or Your Home airport, about the situation and be polite but it opens an investigation. Really the amount of time TSA could possibly touch your luggage is very small compared to how much and often the airline itself touches and moves your checked luggage per their operation. Just remember if TSA cannot clear your luggage it can’t fly on the plane. Arrive early to give yourself plenty of time to address any situation that should arise, like a key or combination to open your luggage! Again, very nice video! Best to you and your future travels.
@@terrarecon Man I get where you're coming from. I respect your preferences. The dude telling you not to worry is a prime example of people looking at a post and an assuming s*** about people they don't even know.
You have a non-Cut cable on your little lock box but you put it through a cloth strap in your luggage that can be cut with scissors or knife doesn’t make much sense
Thank you for the extensive explanation of how to fly with your concealed carry weapon , I really appreciate the advice and information ! But I generally use option #2 , I send it FFL to FFL because , TSA , and anyone associated with the airline who is in contact with your baggage is a potential THIEF ! SORRY to the HONEST and HONORABLE people who work at airport baggage handling , but you are only 1 out of ten people ! So if you are a truly HONORABLE person who works at an airport baggage area , then look at your coworkers and count off 9 of them and they are most likely thieves !
I'd take the base plate off the magazine, slide an apple airtag inside, replace the base plate. If the gun gets stolen or confiscated, I'd know exactly where the gun is.
Multiple State do NOT allow you to have unlocked, loaded firearms in the terminal, even outside of security check area. Florida is one. So NO Carry. Only Transport. Carry is on person, Transport is not ready to fire, locked.
At 10:34, why would You say “they’re gonna ask to see it” and then right after You say “typically, they’re are gonna ask to see it”? Arent You repeating Yourself?
Firearms go missing a lot more than i would imagine and that cable will fall to cutters. I would also make sure that the ammo is legal in that state(LOOKING AT YOU JERSEY) Buddy of mine only travels with his glock"if it goes missing it's a Glock/Cheap i'll get another one tomorrow"
Question, what about the holster. Can I just pack it in the bottom of my checked bag, or do I need to lock it with the weapon? Related question, I cannot wear the holster or place it in my carry on bag, correct?
You can put your holster in your carry on. They don't care about that. Leaving the chamber flag in the gun is OK. The gun lock isn't necessary. The locks on your actual case are what's important.
Just have them all unloaded and not on top of each other. Leave your holster in your carry on or in the checked luggage outside the locked case because they don't care about that. Just make sure the guns are spaced out.
