Zone focusing is one of the best techniques in the street photography game for both beginners and pros. However, the one thing that will come as a result of much practice is the ability to focus by feel. It's a must know technique because it saves time for the photographer to focus without looking through the viewfinder and documenting a decisive moment

Distance scales and focus tabs are the street photographer's best friends. Also you don't need to guess the distance perfectly. If you think your subject is between 2 and 5 meters from you, you can just focus at 5 meters or even farther and the subject is still in focus when using f/5.6 or more. The farther you focus, the greater your depth of field is. On the opposite, if you focus near, about 1.5 or 2 meters and your subject was at 3 or 4 meters from you, the subject can be slightly out of focus. Sorry if it sound like a mess, I don't speak English. Summary, if you're not sure about the distance of your subject, just focus on the far side😝

Yessssirrrski! This technique made me fall in love and understand the 28mm focal length a lot more. Resetting to infinity every time makes you feel like you’re reloading a clip a little, haha.

exactly! if you're out on the street, the photographer should always know where everything is, even the focus

Hey Chris Chu, could you do a video in your series on rangefinders about how to properly load film while standing/walking? All the videos show someone sitting down; the difficulty is when you are swapping a film for another, while holding the bottom plate. What’s the secret?

This is something I would like to have on the X100 series

it's a great idea, but if Fuji did that, they would have to make the 23mm lens even longer to accommodate for the focus tab. I'm pretty sure that would defeat the purpose of the compact size of the x100 series and piss off the cult following behind it. On the X-series lenses, it's prob a great idea tho :D

Can I do this with the 50mm lens as well?

Chris great video! I use the middle position but you are a good point by simplifying it down to two positions. I did a vid recently contemplating selling my Harley for a Leica, if you have a moment check it out. Let me what you think of the video.
