Note that Fd is for Freezer defrost. rd is for refrigerator Defrost. FF is for Force Freeze(this will force both compressor to activate). OF is to force both compressor OFF. Same can happen with the fridge. If you ear a grinding noise in you fridge, rd will defrost the fridge.
@Ruptitoho hi, -18°C is recommended for your freezer. Also, the freezer does not completely unfreeze, just the Internal parts ice buildup. The cycle last for about 20 minutes and stops automatically, so your food will not unfreeze. Cheers.
@@F15H30NE thank you for the info! To cancel the forced defrost push simultaneously again FREEZER and LIGHTING for about 8 sec until Fd appears again then cycle the ENERGY SAVER button until it goes blank and beeping stops
This video was a game changer. Removed everything from the fridge and set for defrost. Less than an hour later (while I cleaned my kind of dirty fridge) timer stopped and when the cooling started the fan noise was completely gone . Awesome and thank you!
The problem is this video is too short for its intended purpose as the actual repair is a very lengthy one. Putting a bandaid on a sore is fast but many times it doesn't heal the problem. Unfortunately, this issue isn't one always based on insufficient defrost. The actual repair covers the myriad reasons this icemaker fails... ie air intrusion, Drainage failure, clogged return port, Water fill tube splashing and defrost failure.
@@Nclght It was fine for me as I neve use the ice maker but for some reason used it one time in 7 years and it happened. Now Its defrosted and ill never use it again.
This video is awesome. After only two defrost cycles the noise disappeared. This fix is much easier for than removing the cover inside the refrigerator compartment as suggested by other videos.
Force Defrost, indicated as “Fd” on the seven segment displays, activates the ice maker's heater loop as well. In fact, depending on the model you are working on, Force Defrost will also activate other electric heaters in the appliance.
On mine, newer double door Samsung, the upper left button is labeled "Energy Saver". You push energy saver and lighting together to enter the program mode, then tap lighting to select Fd. BTW, beeping is very loud. Push while out doing yard work or leaving the house.....
Want to turbo charge the defrost? While defrosting, fill a water tight zip lock bag with the hottest water you have from your faucet and insert it in the ice compartment over a towel. BOOM!
Ensure the door flapper is not broken, on mine the door flapper sealing between both doors was broken and a lot of humidity accumulate and built the ice around the fan quickly
Called Samsung- they will send someone out for free if it’s an issue with your ice maker bc they’re are so many faults with them! Even if it’s out of warranty!
just to add for Indian Samsung versions. Like RT55 (double door no frost) models a) pressing freezer and fridge buttons together for about 6 secs will take it to test mode.b) pressing freezer button will move into different modes. 1) FF(Forced op : compressor and fan continuously ON ) 2) Fd(forced defrost fn) and 3) test cancellation mode ->1->2->3 so on. I’ve learned that you have to be a step ahead of a samsung fridge. The forced de frost for the ice maker is running now..That’s done several times a year to prevent an iceberg buildup. The drain at the lower back is about due for a cleaning. Which means removing everything from the fridge. Shelves to. And then the rear panel. Don’t force it cause it’s probably frozen / stuck and will break…Use a heat gun. If its not done the ice will build up into the fan blades.. If you like the sound of a Hamster on a squeaky exercise wheel then don’t do it…Other than that its trouble free. Lol. Mr samsung. Don’t walk in front of my truck…
RF28HFEDBSR model and the only way I could force my unit into diagnostic mode is to press the top left button ONCE before pressing it and the middle right at same time. It then went into diagnostic mode and I could select FD. I pressed top left and middle right buttons at least 100 times before I thought to "turn on" the top left by pressing once before trying the sequence!
Can anyone tell me what the other choices stand for in that menu, ff, rd? And would force defrost also defrost the main coil in the back pf the fridge?
July 1, 2023, 6:30pm ---- I left in on FD for 30 mins, until the very last beeping sound. Now I heard that you should leave it on FD for only 10-20 mins. Was trying to get the ice maker working again. I thought that was okay. I still have no ice running. I'm hoping I didn't overheat the internal electronic in the ice maker. Is it bad I left it on FD for more than 10 mins? If so, what should I do?

These should be set to 1 Max freezer side and 19 (max on mine) fridge side.
@@kevinburns1969 Everything I have seen about Ice maker says run the fd Defrost cycle 3 times then get it working again. I dont have mine hooked up to water supply to use ice maker (probably a good thing) My "auto Defrost" timer also seems to be returning to Zero Zero after running once. I run the Manual Defrost every few days just before going out so I don't have to hear the Beeping
There is another youtube video from a repairman and that is what he recommends. So confusing. My icemaker is now frozen in the bottom air vent and the vent is actually pushed down on left side - no ice is being made.
Update: Samsung has been doing his repair for free even if outside warranty period. Just call them. That is just a temporary fix and usually doesn't work since the return port is probably frozen. That heater is attached to the bottom of the icemaker and isn't sufficiently close to clear the problem. The repair is an extensive one usually requiring replacing the ice maker, sealing the room, adding drain clips, replacing drain heater and updating or replacing the mainboard. Some models ( prior to 2019) require all of those and some require replacement as needed. And never ever use a hairdryer as it will melt formed‐in plastc drip lines which cannot be repaired and effectively destroying the fridge's ability to produce ice. Furthermore, if it cannot make ice or make ice sufficiently, change the setting to ICE Off otherwise you will wind up freezing drain lines (ice maker refrigerant line branches off freezer evap and freezer goes into ice production mode which drops freezer evap temps to make icemaker work faster anytime icebucket isn't full) causing water to build up under crisper drawers in fridge section.
@erix525 Depends on your model. If your interface is on the front of the freezer, usually ice off /child lock is the bottom button on the left. presd ut quickly to light up sn "ice off" icon. If you have multiple ice makers, the first press turns off the upper icemaker, second press turns off only the bottom icemaker and a third press turns off both. You just need to turn off the problematic icemaker. Holding that sane button for a few seconds locks the display. Models made in the last few years don't automatically go into turbo icemaking mode and won't cause the freezer to drop to extreme temperatures thst freezes up the fresh food drain line so turning off a faulty icemaker isn't necessary but don't leave it in ice plus/turbo mode. Call Samsung , they are doing this icemaker repair for free regardles of age.
The problem I have is that the all of the refrigerator vents that blow the cool air are completely frozen. That being said, would rd defrost all of that or will it defrost it but only as a temporary fix?

Some videos say to use FD to defrost the ice maker - but the ice maker is in the refrigerator - so should you be using the RD instead??? So confusing! My icemaker air vent at the bottom must be frozen because the left side is hanging down.
My refrigerator keeps making a knocking sound. I did notice that my icemaker is frozen over and I have a lot of water dripping down from somewhere into my middle drawer. I hope that will fix that knocking sound. I’m very concerned.
Same problem here. After 3 cycles of defrost I was able to remove the drawer without breaking everything…. Then there was still a lot of ice stuck in there…
Thanks. I have referenced this video several tines over the last 2 years. But now when we de-ice, it works great for 2 weeks,but then stops making ice. Any idea whats going on?
I did see a kit to fix it by adding or replacing the thermostat. So far i just take everything out take out ourside let it fully though run hot water through it an it will work again grrat for like 6 months lol @@trinapegues7252
Those are your automatic defrost timer numbers ... if st to 0 Zero and 0 Zero Your auto Defrost Cycle is Off. Set them both to Max .... 1 and 19 in My Case

Thanks, that's what I did. I ended up manually chipping away at the ice build up (not recommended, at all), so it only ran for about 40min. The fridge did get up to about 68 degrees, but not the end of the world for how long it took. If you have something particularly temperature sensitive, and it's going to run 90min+, it might be worth selectively protecting those.
@@KMann1996 Nope! In the end, the delivery guys just came and unplugged it and took it away, and installed my new one. Of course, they left it all crooked and wobbly, ....
So it only beeps for 20 muns. Good, I thought it was for the hr. it took to defrost. I can deal with the beep for a little while 😆 thanks for your help and the share.
Samsung makes the worst appliances. 4 out of 5 appliances had major issues. No more Samsung appliances ever...They don't stand beyond their products either. 😢😢😢

None of these combos work for me . I have freezer door alarm and energy saver on left and ridge cool select and ice maker on right , bout time I buy a sledgehammer and destroy this thibg
