Bored of tongs? Check out this fun video where I make a twine hatchet that we use on our farmstead: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5tFT6-dAR1w.html
Thanks! Great question. They are called shoulders. They have no purpose other than to show off your finesse as a blacksmith. It is more of a farrier thing than a blacksmith thing. Not necessary but fun to do 🙂
Keep up this work. Don't get discouraged when the forged in fire fanboys tell you your anvil is too low and you'll catch gout, or your thumb on top of the handle will cause hip dysplasia or something.... Can't wait for the next video. When you gonna show how to make a shoe?
Thanks for the encouragement, I'm a professional farrier so we like our anvils low so we don't blow out our shoulders. My video coming out next week actually has a short clip of me shaping and burning on a shoe, maybe eventually I'll do a whole video on building shoes.
Я только полгода как начал заниматься кузнечным делом. Тоже сковал себе клещи. Но у меня они не такие красивые как у вас... Привет из России, южный Урал.
@@dima-vesel My tongs were rough when I first started too. Practice makes perfect so keep you chin up, keep going, and someday you'll crank out a set even nicer than mine.
