After a great comment on instagram I have decided to remaking a video I made a long time ago. In this video I will have ago at remaking the Viking hammer tutorial. With a better camera and some new tools and skills can I do a better job. let me know in the comments what you think. I have also taking a lot of inspiration in this video from Jakob Faram. As I badly copied one of his cool viking ish style dogs head beast things.
I will cover in great details how to make the Viking Hammer Pendant and some of the steps to making the Viking Dog.
Hope you enjoy

Awesome as ever, making cool stuff from such a small piece of material - without the need for power hammers!

oh yes i never used a powerhammer, i get that it is useful with larger pieces when you lack a helper etc but for the artful stuff hands do wonders

In my opinion the new hammer is superior to the first one. It looks better and a bit easier to do. Great as usual

For some of us, not directly effected by the virus, this will be the best of times. My wife working from home- we can share lunch each day, walk the dogs twice a day. We can find the time to work on projects together. I am quite happy with a moderate level of self-isolation. I think that you are enjoying your strikers company too.

The version of the dog opener I make is the folded type and end ups looking like a face on front view of a bull dog. Really nice to see this style too.

As always great content. Love that you did something a little new ( and gave props to the guy who inspired you) also that you went way back from your own vids and updated. Got the joke with the drop forge, cool channel too. you asked me a long while back to send you a pic of the dragon head bottle opener I was working on. I never forgot, but I have no idea how to actually do that (I'm wayyyy older than you and not internet savvy) so I just wanted to say I appreciate you asking but have no clue how to send the finished piece to you. Never mind, I'm happy with how it came out and the person it was gifted to is pleased with it so all is good. Thanks for the content and health to you and those you care about.

It's pronounced "me-johl-neer". I'm just getting into blacksmithing and I'm a practicing heathen and I want to make authentic style hammers and viking Era pendants/decorative pieces. I think your piece is gorgeous. Love the little touches. Can't wait to start getting wild with my designs.

Very cool!! One thing I have done on them ('mole near' hammers) is put chisel marks on the diagonal, on the handle. It kind of gives them a "leather wrapped" look. That bottle opener, is amazing! Well done Sir! 👍🏼👍🏼⚒️❤️🙂

Nice little projects there Dan, it is nice to mention people who inspired you in thier design as it is what you did look at them doing the work. I would say though if you went to a museum and looked at a design and both made one similar it is just the same principal. Viking dogs were done by the vikings first. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

Nice job, looks like the opener will even work. Maybe if you worked the dogs jaw a bit better you could open bottles with that end as well? Thanks Dan.

Personally, I pronounce it: me-ole-near. I've also heard it pronounced: me-ole-ner before as well. However you choose or are able to say it, Hail Odin, Hail Thor and his mighty hammer Mjolnir! (And, because I am also a Lokean Norse Pagan, Hail Loki, God of chaos! For without chaos there can be no change!)

I was wondering when you were going to hook the loop on that little Mjölnir (Me-yol-near) over the edge of the anvil to close it Dan, then in the next shot that's exactly what you did. Glad I'm not losing my eye for it at least. I'm also an advocate of using any part of the anvil you need to, I've even flipped them on their side to use the curve between the feet and the waist before now. Good advice to offer. Both are great little stocking fillers, and to the recipient there's nothing wrong with the dog if you don't point it out. :D

Dan, another great video! Do you mind if I attempt to make a Thor's Hammer pendant for my wife? I know there are tons of them on RU-vid but, I respect you! Some of them I respect and others, I don't! I have a very hard time visualizing, in my head what it's supposed to look like when it's done, so, I doubt if I'll attmpt a Dog's head cap lifter!! Why is it that the center of his hammer more pointed at the helve point than one of today's hammers? Do you know? Is it traditional, or is it just THOR'S thing?? Or, and I just thought of this, is it if the end of the handle that is sticking out a bit? I do enjoy watching you videos! Since I'm disabled enough that I can't do much, anymore, I guess, in a way, I'm living vicariously through your work! I can only do small things and would no more attempt to make a 2 pound hammer than I would lift an elephant! I'd end up hurting myself in either case! BTW, a 2 pound hammer is about the max I can use and be sure of making the blows land as they should! So, you can see that I'd have a hard time making a hammer head! Blessings to you and may He give you a long a profitable carreer!
