Thanks, Michael! This was much clearer than other videos I've seen. I have an external drive that was formatted in a MAC and I have a PC so I was unable to read it. I'm so glad there's a way to format the drive so it can be read by both formats. I have musician friends who have MACs exclusively. Thanks again!
FOR MAC USERS start a 5:27 Steps after inserting hard drive include: Finder -> applications -> Utilities -> Disk utility -> Select external hard drive and continue video to follow 2 second formatting steps.
Narrator was very knowledgeable. I liked that he offered several scenarios and explanations of each. This worked perfectly to resolve my needs. Thank you.
I had a 3tb external hard drive on my PlayStation but I recently got a gaming laptop and I didn't want to buy a new external hard drive so thanks to you, you just saved me about £100 on buying another
Good clear infromation and thank you! I have a question about changed capacity of the iomega external drive. Would the format of the Iomega drive will reistate the capacity, which is suppose to be 1 trillion GB, instead of 32 GB.
Thank you so much. Transcend sent me info but it assumes that I have a Windows computer. I much appreciate your video showing exactly how to do it on my MacBook Air.
Which is the best and secure external SSD drive format for Mac and PC because I heard that if we are using exFAT drive format the files are getting corrupted.
Hi. I recently bought a 5tb seagate external hhd and it came with NTFS. I used the Windows method you just demonstrated to reformat it to exFAT so I can use it with my 2021 iPad Pro. But after doing so the drive now gives me an unavailable error. Will unchecking the Quick Format make a difference or is there another way to format?
Thank you THANK YOU followed your directions on an old Maxtor 320Gig I had used in the past format completed in easy to understand steps. I chose format exFAT I want to confirm this drive will now work in both windows and Mac environments correct? Thanks again
I am using an external hard drive for my Mac but I am switching to Windows now. If I switch the external hard drive now, will I lose everything in the external hard drive?

Hei! Nice video, but wanted to ask you, for example the WD external hdd is about 40$ more when is come for Mac, is somenthing special for that price? I just think that you buy a normal one ( cheapest ) and then format for Mac! Is this an good option? Thanks
Thank you for the great explanation, it's fun and easy to follow, though I have a problem that maybe you could answer 😏I bought 2 new HDDs and reformatted both of them on a Windows laptop in exfat, but when I plug them into my iMac, they open fine, files are all there, but after a short time of using them, going into a folder and back out again, everything vanishes and on the bottom of the window says 0 bytes. If I eject it and plug it back in, the same thing happens so the files are not gone but I don't know how to fix this so they don't vanish every time I use my hard drives.
I think I messed up. I used this method to format my main (internal) hard drive, and now it says that the BOOTMGR is missing. I tried to rebuild it, using the windows restore disk, but nothing works. I think I screwed up the whole hard drive.
Hi! I put my files on a Toshiba Canvio 1 TB and checked it multiple times the day I added the files. The drive came formatted. I plug it in today and says it needs to be be formatted. Was this human error, machine error, or another human tampering with it?
Does formatting said drive allow one to back up the currently configured HD OS sytem. I am asking does the external SSD clone my PC? Or does it just copy files, music, movies, etc? Thanks this informative video post.
i have another HDD of asus laptop. i removed it and replaced in the old toshiba hdd which made my asu X441N slower..but i had no choice because i dont have extra budget for new one(laptop)...i want to take back in ma ASUS hdd in the laptop, how to install windows to my asus hdd again ? i really need your help :(
I need to format a WD 2tb hard drive to go into my Freesat box but need to format it first as it don't seem to format once in the box. What do i need to do that.
I have a Windows TB drive that I want to use on my Mac. There is some important things on the TB already. If I hit erase like you say in the video, will it completely wipe my TB clean?
Hi Miss Lizzy, hitting erase will delete all the data on the drive. But you can later recover it using Recoverit Data Recovery software. If the amount of data is high then you might need to use pro version of the software which is paid.
