Your snowflake border is so perfect; I love your “cozy things” quilt! It really is cozy!! My husband was chuckling about your discussion of “proving there aren’t two snowflakes alike”, because I said the same thing to him last week... there are so many, how would anybody know?! 😂😆 I’m binding my “stay at home” quilt today for a friend for Christmas. In the course of a very hard year, there have been beautiful blessings; thank you for your part in that, Pat. I love you too!

I quilt everything myself as I cannot afford to send things to a LAQ. I only have 2 UFO'S that need quilting as I usually don't like to start a new project until I quilt what I am working on. But, all these QAL's that start have got me starting new projects that I would never be doing before.

Very good question, Pat. Each year at this time, I find myself working on Christmas gifts and chastise myself for not starting sooner. Every year I promise myself to start much, much sooner and we Still don't have a Christmas quilt on the couch. I like the idea of baby quilts. Most of our grandchildren are marrying now and the great grandbabies are a coming. Their parents don't have a quilt but those babies could. I like your Planning Guide as a jumping off place and appreciate your comment on what is plan and what is dream. Dreamer here. Good discussion.

Definitely have your Stay at Home and Cozy Things quilts sent to the spa. I think it would be fun to quilt the Aurifil thread spool at home. Finally bind the quilts that are your favorites. Remember there are no quilting police, so you can do whatever you want and what will make you feel happy 🧵🧵

Oh my! I'd forgotten about the bird :) AND the Happy Dance one! I agree with most-if you need to/want to add more to each of those, then keep them. The rest, as they are bigger, I'd send to the spa to have them done. I put the binding on my 31-yr old son's Christmas present skateboard quilt yesterday. I do it all my machine. Sew to the back, flip over to the front & sew it down. If it's a small enough project, I'll zig-zag it down for more design. I've been meaning to comment about you popping up words & pics now!! LOVE it :)

This has been a fun sewing year, and a lot of the fun has been thanks to you and your daily videos. I always have a hard time choosing the batting to go into a quilt. As soon as I finish one it is given away. In April I decided to make 3 twin size quilts with different battings and keep them through a couple of washings to see how the batting behaved. I started with your O My Stars pattern and put wool in it. (I love it!). Then I made your Rainbow quilt. I was going to put 50/50 batting in it, but I really love how that top turned out and I think that will be my least favorite batting, so I made up a Sew Sampler quilt and put the batting in that while I waited for some 80/20 batting to come in. I had to pause while I made a quilt for a grandson. My goal is to get the Rainbow quilt completed with free motion quilting, like you taught us way back at the beginning of your daily videos. Then I will have completed my goal of making three quilts to check how the batting stands up. I am slower than you, so I have lots of your patterns to make up in the future. Merry Christmas Pat, and thank you again.

I missed live chat today. Pick one or two that you want to quilt yourself & send as many of the rest as you can to the spa. You're running a business; designing new quilts, running the SALs, & producing all the videos is plenty; you don't have to do all the quilting too! You'll still have the binding. I'm subscribed & use your affiliate links.

Don't sweat the small stuff.. pick a couple to do. Send the rest out to the spa. I only machine quilted a baby quilt for a grandson. Then decided my time better spent piecing than quilting. Now it's very rare I quilt them at home. Love yr borders. The red snowflake print made it pop. I'm using my planner page daily. So far. Make it to Christmas.. I haven't completed everything on my page. But am accomplishing some. That's better than I was. Covid, grandsons death and being sick with influenza/ bronchitis has definately put me behind. I had a duplicate bag like yours. But slowly have changed to a large toiletry bag by my chair and one by my machine. Haven't gone anywhere this year. But the bag can quickly be folded and put in a suitcase or a day bag if I go to the doctors or elsewhere. Looking for a "cosmetic bag" to hold just some hand stitching items. But havent found one I like. Most smaller ones won't hold my clover desktop needle threader. My needle/scissor holder is dying. So soon must replace..and looking for a divided plastic box to carry my finishing pieces for POTC. Appreciate you helping us get thru this year. It was 11 degrees when I started watching todays video.

I have a purple fishing tackle box with all my most used tools and supplies in it. I carry it to classes and guild meetings and then at home I still work out of it. That way I know I have everything I need in the box to go at a moment's notice. I also have a duplicate set of basic tools and extra rulers at our vacation cabin as I don't have to bring as much stuff back and forth.
@dulcilass
@dulcilass 3 года назад
I have an entire duplicate sewing room in my bedroom. I have duplicates, including a sewing machine, iron and ironing board, cutting board, and all the little items such as thread, cutters, needles, pins, etc and so on. I use a couple of drawers for this things. I don't really plan my sewing as I know that my life can mess up any plan I make. When I finish a top, I get it into my frame and start quilting it. Right now I have a quilt in my frame that's been two years in the making from start to finish, at least I hope to finish it this year. Life stepped last Dec. and I managed to get the quilt ironed and marked for quilting, with the batting and back cut ready to sandwich. But with major neck surgery in Dec all plans to finish the quilt were put aside until just recently. I have one I'm hand piecing together, and hope to have it in the frame in Feb. There's also one that's in the design stage. I've drawn the pattern out and am looking at my stash picking fabric for it. That's it. I can only do about 3 to 4 quilts a year. God willing and the Creek don't rise. I do so enjoy your enthusiasm for quilting and love the way you handled your snowflake border.

I have so much stuff going on in my head right now....not sure I can even coherently talk about it. Like someone else said, I think it was Rhonda, if I push too hard on my schedule, I just quit cause I’m too over loaded. Then nothing gets done. Instead of heading down to my sewing room to work I just find other stuff to do that is not related to sewing at all. Like searching for recipes, watch you (Pat) on RU-vid or other quilters, play games and try to think and order my projects. But in that frame of mind, nothing moves forward. Just thinking about it. I agree with those who said, send those off to the spa or save them to be quilted one at a time next year by working a little on them every day or on a weekend to get them done. Allow for most of the day for creativity and new ideas as they come up. Then try to quilt smaller things in the evening as you are able. It sure is easier for me to tell you how to do yours than it is for me to plan how to do my own! LOL!

Pat, you already have plans to do the elephant quilt going into January. Knowing you, you will have another quilt to work one right after that one. My recommendation is that you finish what you can do comfortably by yourself by the end of December then send the remaining flimsies to someone else to get them off your plate. Don't let them hang out there "for next year". Then they become a chore.

If you have the funds available, just send them all off to the spa. If you’re OK with not putting a border on the two baby quilts, send them off too - not everything needs a border. Take the quilting itself off your task list by doing this. It’ll relieve the stress of “I need to get this done” and will help keep your momentum going. If you’re OK with machine binding (vs hand binding) get a couple bound that way. Remember, done is better than perfect... even for a quilting professional. If your spa will bind them, too, so much the better. AND, if these aren’t your priority right now, THAT’S OK. Be realistic about what you truly have to finish and what can wait for a few weeks.

Basically I over extend myself... and then get dissappointed when I can't keep up with my own goals... so I just stop, and can't seem to motivate at all until I regroup, totally clean up my area and then re-evauluate my projects. So I do better just taking one project, working on it as far as I can go, then if I need to wait to order or shop for more fabric for the one (like borders, or backing), then I will work on another and plug away at it until I get to a stopping place on it. I have to keep telling myself, there is no real deadlines, but they must get finished. And that is my focus for 2021... no deadlines, just get them finished.

My Cozy blocks are done, sewn into strips and I had to order more fab. for the strips becuase the way I wanted to use the print, didnt allow me enough for 1/4" sew space... So it's ordered and hopefully won't take to long to get here. Meanwhile back to both "Going on a picnic" and "Stay at home" which now ready to move forward towards completion. Yay!

Gosh, i should have re-read what I wrote. sorry it was very confusing how I typed it out. What i meant to say is I have my three vertical rows stitched together. I want to add this floral stripe between the vertical rows and all around as first border. The floral stripe was left over from another wider stripe that i used in the building blocks. So the floral part didn't have enough stitch edge left to give me room to use it. So I ordered more that way I can now cut it wide enough to have a quarter inch seam on each side without cutting into my print. Fussy cutting sometimes uses up a lot of fabric, but i had a vision and I didn't want to settle . LOL

Then, have your next favorite one quilted so that you can work on bindings at night while you are resting with your feet up. Pat, when you have a quilt professionally quilted does it make you feel like you haven’t done the entire quilt yourself? And do you think differently about the quilt. I would think that the quilts that I did from beginning to end would be more precious to me than the ones I send away. I’m new at this and I haven’t sent one away yet. I’m trying to decide if it makes a difference.. Thanks! Loretta

Is it still possible to sign up for this sew along? I know it is wrapping up but are the block patterns and videos still available?

She has a wave stitch on her Solaris that makes quilting quicker and easier than free motion.
