Your way of binding is how I was taught. Thank you for showing how so well. It is always good to see a reminder. I also use a large needle, but it is because my arthritic fingers can grip it better. I will have to try bending it.💕

I hand bind with the same stitch you do. I’ve always called it the invisible stitch. I also use size 10 milliners straw needles. I’m glad to see that one technique I use is an official “instructor verified” skill 😂🤣 as opposed to my other unverified and often completely wrong methods 😳.

I use a bowl made by one of my children in years past to carry my binding things in when I'm sewing the binding in place. They are heavy and remind me of the kids in their much younger years. So fun. Love that threader, by the way. So much easier. Thank you, Pat.

I love to hand bind my quilt binding but I am afraid I have been using the whip stitch on my quilts so far. I love your method and the fact that the thread doesn't show and it is protected from snagging on something. I will do your method the very next binding. Thank you for demonstrating your method.

I totally enjoy hand binding. My process is actually a slip stitch. I did the same stitch when hemming skirts or pants. No thread showing. I use very short stitches so no chance of them getting caught on anything. (Usually 1/8 inch or slightly longer). I know that’s really short but I just can’t make myself use longer stitches. Love, peace and safe days ahead to all🤗😷❤️✌🏻

My needles always seem to bend and I thought that was bad. You can also hold the needle in your hand wrap thread around needle about 4 times and then pull your needle through, it makes a nice knot.

@Pat Sloan...even after years of sewing there are some basics I still have questions on. Can you help me understand needle sizes? I like to hand sew with a longer needle with a good size eye (because I don’t have that needle threader...yet). If I go to order needles from The Fat Quarter Shop I get so confused as to what the needle size numbers mean.

I've never been able to get one of those type of threaders to work. 😣
@PatSloan
@PatSloan 3 года назад
Well now that I explained it to you why don't you try again there is a little hook that goes into the eye and the eye of your needle has to be large enough for the hook to go in it and your needle eye has to be straight or it's not going to go in it
