Autumn Sage (salvia greggii) is evergreen, not deciduous. One of the best plants for attracting Hummingbirds, and it blooms almost all year, but mostly in spring and fall.

I stand corrected Paul and appreciate you taking the time to educate. I’m learning as I go BUT definitely want to put correct info out there! I’ll be sure to pin your comment.🙌

It can be evergreen in mild winters, but semi-evergreen if we have hard winters. It's certainly not evergreen like dwarf yaupons or other true evergreens.

Thanks. I really like using things that are native. Just makes sense.
@theplantninja-texasgardener
I agree! Unfortunately I’ve had to learn this lesson the hard way😜

This is really helpful info, and I'm happy to find your channel. Gardening in Texas can be really challenging, especially with our extreme heat and drought this year, so it makes sense to work with native plants that have adapted to our environment.

I’m so excited you’re here! I’ve learned a lot of gardening lessons the hard way. The importance of using natives and well adapted plants was a big one. As you continue your native journey, you’ll see that native doesn’t mean boring. Texas has so many lovely and colorful options! I also think local nurseries are a great source for finding native plants. Happy planting!

Going shopping😘.....I do have a turk's cap, so much fun to watch the pollinators at work‼️ Thank you for the great plant ideas, and yes Caleb Oma likes your plant the best!

I totally embarrassed Alannah filming “random plants” at the hospital. Their landscape architect did a great job. The vast majority of plants used were Texas natives. I was so excited to catch the little worker bee in action 🐝

Thank you for this list! I've been getting pretty versed in Texas natives and I've never heard of most of these. Super helpful (also they're beautiful!). Thankyou!

So glad this was helpful! I’m fairly new to the native game as well and I can absolutely see the difference in performance of these plants versus many of my nonnatives. If it would help, I do have a part two of this video and a video on my best performing natives in my August garden. Happy gardening!!

@theplantninja-texasgardener Absolutely! BTW, if you are in the Bell county area, there is a new nursery on FM 93 between Belton and Temple. I just bought a beautiful compact cherry laurel; my first tree! I'm so excited to see the pollinators it brings. Hopefully, it will survive my amateur green thumb lol. Happy planting to you!

i love those evergreens in the background. especially the one with the dichondra. so pretty! can you tell us what they are?
@theplantninja-texasgardener
@theplantninja-texasgardener 6 месяцев назад
I believe that sprawling evergreen is a sea green juniper. They get about 5-6 ft in height and spread. Not sure on the upright ones. Suspect Spartan or other variety of juniper. Thanks for watching!

Are these plants good for the whole of Texas or are they to specific regions?
@theplantninja-texasgardener
EXCELLENT question…I suspect most if not all will do well but there are unique challenges to each region. Consider the plant database on the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower website: www.wildflower.org/plants/ Also Texas superstar website is helpful: texassuperstar.com/selecting/index.html Texas A&M Agrilife extension is also very helpful: agrilifeextension.tamu.edu These sites will help you make the best selection. Thanks for stopping by and the great question!

Even though im going to grow bamboo for all of the benefits they bring like helping decreasing carbon in the air (which this will only be a pot plant) but do you know any native species that are native around san marcos river area?
@theplantninja-texasgardener
@theplantninja-texasgardener 11 месяцев назад
Hey neighbor! Great question! I believe you’re in the Edwards Plateau ecoregion and all of the mentioned plants are good options for you. If you have wetter areas that you’re trying to plant in, you definitely might need to consider other options. I don’t have much experience with water/pond planting but I do know that Texas Star Hibiscus does well in wetter soils. This might be a helpful resource on your ecoregion : tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/wildlife_diversity/wildscapes/ecoregions/ecoregion_7.phtml

Do you mean not to plant Lantana urticoides(native)? Or are talking about lantana camera(non native and often invasive)? www.texasinvasives.org/plant_database/detail.php?symbol=LACA2
