Hi! Amateur game developer here, it's called Actor Tick because an Actor, simply put, is another way to say "an object." The term Object refers to a filetype used within gaming development, namely 3-D models. Using the term Actor prevents confusion in this regard. EDIT-: sorry I left some parts out. Not quite accurate. First off, object doesn't refer to a "filetype" object refers to well any object, and in the case of object oriented programming, a very common programming paradigm, an object is the core building block of your code. An actor is a game development term and refers to objects that exists in the game world. Basically does it have a position variable to represent it's location? Then it's almost certainly an actor.
The terminology probably varies slightly from game engine to game engine. But Object is typically the highest super class in any language. In other words, the most abstract class an object can derive from. Any "thing" that is in a game is some kind of object, so to say. In Unreal engine the class Actor derives from Object and is a thing that can be placed in 3D space, because Actor has properties for the x, y and z position, properties for the rotation and so on. Anything you find in the game world, like player avatars, NPCs, docrative assets, etc. are objects from classes derived from Actor, which in turn is derived from Object. Other classes derived from Object but not from Actor could be UI objects like buttons, logos, etc. or game logic.

You've mentioned drama regarding the lb gen at start of the fight. But haven't speed kill groups been doing this for a very long time now? I only started raiding in EW, and seen people generate lb like that as early as asphodelos (didn't ppl cheeze lb gen to have early lb to basically skip/almost instantly clear adds phase or something along those lines in p3s, for example?). So surely you guys(speedkill groups) have been doing that way before this case came up? So what was the drama about exactly? Or were they generating it way to fast even with this gear cheese thingymagingy in mind? Your channel's like the first channel I've stumbled upon in regards to lb gen topics period, so i might be just on schizo pills and pulling that example out of my ass. But if I'm not, can someone clarify it?
I cannot comment too much on the history of the strategy dating back that far. Its true that speedkillers were aware of this for a longer period though. The drama itself was due to a miscommunication between the fflogs team and speedkill teams. All speedkill teams were under the impression that the tactic to artificially lower the healing output (dating back to old Eos gen cheeses) was disallowed, but it so happened that a member of exception requested clarification in dms, after which they were told it was an allowed strategy. This queues into everyone finding out the strategy was allowed all along on the last day, which prompted heavy discussion as it was clearly assumed not to be. Fflogs is very tight on their regulation and in that sense extremistically fair. The specific case was not properly outlawed so exception took note of that loophole. They couldnt reveal either that exception had approached them due to anonymity and preservation of private strategies being a line FFlogs doesnt want to cross. Then, the poll happened. Instead of polling for the outlawing of artificially lowering healing, the poll was suddenly put up as no changing the entire ruling behind gearswaps, which would mean any and all gearswap strats would be banned. This made no sense when it came out, since it wasn't at all what a large part of the community asked for. They wanted 1 issue addressed, then an entire game mechanic was put under fire. Now, the conclusion is that fflogs cant reliably discern harmful or harmless gear swaps without permanent manual reviewing, and removing artificial lowering of shields and heals would also affect more beloved strategies like a small TBN at pull, so in the end, the decided it was better to either fully allow or fully disallow the strategy... but this was very poorly communicated at the time. FFlogs team is incredible, both in their work and regulation, but they tend to fall flat when it comes to preemptive communication. Lets just say that #fflogs-discussion was on fire for at least a couple days, and for good reason. Now the strategy is allowed, even in Dawntrail, so we'll see more of it in the future. I want to quickly end this by saying that these are my words, not the words of others, I do not speak for them. These are just the events as I understand them and any corrections are welcome :] P.s, p3s adds was done without the prepull lb tactic. Recently, hydaelyn adds did require it though.
@@CaroKannffxiva bit on the history of this strat; the idea mainly came into fruition because of the way chadarnook (o6s) was designed in terms of pulling and having to wait several seconds before pull actually started. The scholar would critlo themselves, everyone would unequip their gear, the scholar spreads the full critlo shield, (separating the crit shield from the main shield wasn’t a thing yet) they would do one somewhat weak aoe heal that would gain LB generation, the boss opened up with a raidwide which let the group generate an insane amount of LB from the shield/party mit save into another critical heal. O6s is important because at the time they had recently introduced squadrons and Ungarmax, the squadron limit break 1, had an absolutely busted beyond belief effect. It gave your entire party like 50% extra damage or something nuts. People bugged it onto their hotbars and were able to make use of it particularly well in the fight and how cool LB strats are to abuse got shot into the mainstream for a bit and it’s been much more prevalent since then.

Just a quick note, they changed the pet commands mechanic in a patch this expansion. So now no matter where the pet is when you click the button they will stop to cast the ability and then continue again meaning you can no longer delay it. You can test this easily with as you mention fey blessing or whispering dawn etc.
No, that change is misleading wording. The technique very much still works as that exact clip was recorded on this patch and we use it in our speeds. The change I personally believe its referring to is the part where the fairy is doing automatic movement due to following a player. If the fairy is following the sch, then gets a command, Im pretty sure the fairy will indeed stop moving to cast, but if the fairy is moving through a place command, it will delay the ability cast accordingly.
@@CaroKannffxiv yes place/move pet commands are still a higher priority than spells. you can actually use this to get extra fairy heal cds over a fight by delaying the heal execution up to around 30 seconds. The cd still ticks down during this time so you could use heals during down time and get multiple free heals during damage phases. kind of niche but definitely a cool mechanic for people who love optimizing.
Its actually a big part of why we use max range fairy abuse at the start of the fight. In p12s we need a blessing at around 0:55, and since we use it at 0:00 as well, its good that we have it buffered early
I qued in once on a msq roulette and when the barrier went down we generated a full bar of lb. To this day I've always wondered how. If a console player with bad internet ques in with crap gear and changes gear right before accepting the duty will they be stuck in this low health state while loading in generating lb?
I dont think its possible to generate that much on a single person. In fact, if you have only 1 lb bar your generation is also cut by 1/3d, so each heal tick would only gain 100 units, which is nothing. I dont know what prompted the LB generation. There are some instances where LB is granted for free, these are fight specific, but I cant say that msq roulette has those triggers. Some mysteries are best left at "spaghetti code" :(
