1. Stop lookbig for tips 2. Listen to English everyday: Podcasts, RU-vid, Ted talks,... consistency is key. A range of different topics and accents. One person - Mutiple people Actively listen: focus on the weaknesses you need to improve 3. Spelling counts: be careful, be harsh, record mistakes in your notebooks to recognize patterns 4. Not just listening: - Reading questions before the record starts - Thinking - Spelling - Grammar: predicting the answers - Vocabulary 5. Improve your vocabulary: - Reading and listening daily - Record in your notebook 6. Have a strategy - many questions types 7. Practice more strategically
Thank you for this video! The result came out today and I received a Band 9 in Listening. And I have learned, the most important things to take care of for 9 Band are the following: 1. Utmost Attention. (Do not let your mind wander even for a second) 2. Do not focus on key words by trying to match the word on the question and the words spoke. Instead, Understand the message being communicated, the answer will come to you naturally. 3. Drink Tea or something before the test. Good Luck!
Sir, I am Redwana Ferdous from Bangladesh. On 20th November, i have got my ielts exam result and i have got overall 6.5 (L- 7.5, R- 5.5, W & S - 6.5). I was struggling a lot to get a smart score in my listening module and i was totally upset for that. After some days, i have watched this video of yours to get some effective ideas to improve my listening skills. Then, almost 1 & 1/2 months before 2 months of my ielts exam, i listened a lot of youtube videos (BBC learning English, CNN news, ABC news Australia, Tedtalks, Refinery29 etc.) and i used extra speed from normal speed to improve my listening skill. Before listening lots of videos, i got averagely 6 in listening from practice tests. After 1.5 months, when i have done some practice tests, surprisingly i would get averagely 7/ 7.5/ 8. I was so lucky to get this video of yours at the high time before some months of my final exam and your ideas helped me a lot to achieve that score in my listening. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart and keep helping ❤❤❤❤. Love from Bangladesh .
Hey Chris! You are doing a great job. Thanks for all the content that you upload for free. I followed your tutorials and I scored a perfect 8 overall. I scored 7 in writing and 8 in rest of the sections. The best part of your tutorials is you don't just provide students with tips and tricks but your content is relevant and alligned to the test requirement. Keep doing the good work! Regards, Misbah
I have just learned a couple of idioms just by actively listening to this this video, they are: low-hanging fruit and fit the bill at 21:00 and 23:00, RU-vid is such a bless. You just got a well-deserved like from my side.
Excellent instructional video. Listen English songs and watch sitcoms as well. Try to write down lyrics at first and then google and match with actual lyrics. Start from slow songs to fast numbers, 1 or 2 songs a day. This will help you to improve your listening ability and be focused and later when you do the practice test you can figure out the difference.
Hi Chris, I just got my result 7.5 overall...I want to thank you. Although I was not a VIP one & just got the chance to check your free videos here & participate in a 3 day writing preparation sessions before my test day, those helped me alot besides doing the practice tests for listening & reading. You are great & I really appreciate your time & effort. Best of luck!
Thank you so much Chris for your tutorials I used your website for ONLY 10DAYS to prepare for my IELTS test and I got a band 9.0 in listening and an overall band 8.0 You are a brilliant teacher. Thank you so much

In a week of practice, I could achieve a band 8. It will be nincompoopic of you if you don't plan strategically(which differs on the person's strengths and flaws). S- 7.0 L- 8.5 R- 9.0 W- 7.0
You are absollutely right there is no tips for listening just reinfocing your listening by listening alot but there is wrong atitute even among teachers who can boost studens boundscores by some techniques

In my opinion the only thing that can help you in listening test is none other than meditation.Because it teaches you to focus and concentration the attention to the topic at hand.Thats all that required.

My problem during listening is that my mind go somewhere else and then I lose connection with the speech or conversation.Could you please help me how do I fix this problem
I had same experience. I overcame by doing practice counting numbers from one to ten slowly and repeatedly in mind while I am listening. This helped me focusing on what I am listening.
Hello Chris! Thank you and your team for all of your help :) I wanted to know if there are some exercises you can recommend to practice reading while listening. Sometimes one can distract me from the other and get momentaneously lost...
Thank you IELTS Advantage and special thanks to Chris, for all videos regarding exam format and different types of questions and of course how to manage time. I got 8.5/9 in my IELTS exam.
I disagree. When I am in the listening section, I do understand almost the full conversation, but my problem is that once is finished, I can't remeber what was about, then I can not answer the questions. So, instead of listening english, I practiced writing notes while I was listenting, and that helped me to improve my score.
Thanks so much for your helpful hints, I will give these tips a try and I believe they will work well for me, this time!! Any hints for section 3 , please ???
I've a trouble to listen the right words specially in 4th section. For example, I've heard and wrote "Football page" while it was "Football Pitch". Also, I listened in the audio "River tans" and the true was " River Thames". If you can inform me what I should improve in this weakeness point.
Chris sir you told that practice is not improve my self actually it was wast of time. You told that listing English every day in you tube give me some links or suggestions which topic I have to listen. Thank you sir. Your video is very helpful for me. I am glad sir.
If you were doing some other work ( like i was eating and complaining how spicy my food is ) while listening to this video, but still understood what he said perfectly, without any spelling error ( you know that obviously ), i think you can clear listening part with high scores
Thanks a lot for big help on listening. Is there any hard rule to write something in a particular way ? Like time or date ? Like I wrote 9 A.M. answer was 9 AM I wrote 13th (OF AUGUST) answer was just (AUGUST) Pls reply.
Success makes so many people hate you. I wish it wasn't that way. It would be wonderful to enjoy success without seeing envy in the eyes of those around you.👍👍👍
