Hi! Thank you for the video, great help! I’m a graduate searching for a path into construction management. You mentioned recruitment agencies but didn’t name any. Do you know of the best ones in the west/south west/London area (or any others)? There’s so many out there it’s hard to find the top few. Cheers! Sam ✌🏼

Hey I am currently pursuing a bachelors of science in Surveying Management. I am SO GLAD that you just said I do not need no experience in the construction industry because the only experience I have is working the construction department at The Home Depot and the four whole months I was there, I learned something new every single day about construction. I am a Home Health Aide currently. My true dream was to become a Civil Engineer but I can not do any math passed Geometry and Statistics. So I am doing the next best thing and my passion is growing growing rapidly. Thank you so much for the video!

RU-vid's algorithms are crazy scary! My family and I will move to the UK this summer and I just started looking for a construction jobs in UK although I subscribed to your channel a year ago, this is the first time your video has come top of my feed. Don't know which part of UK yet but your video is inspiring and motivating and a kick up the ass to start researching jobs. My question is: will companies look badly upon someone who has a degree in civil engineering, 3 years experience at a design consultancy, 6 years experience as a site engineer but still isn't a chartered engineer (my choice not to be chartered). I am always get asked in interviews, I'm a simple guy, I don't need letters after my name as society dictates. Michelle keep up the great work you're doing, you're making a world of difference!
@SheWhoDaresWins
@SheWhoDaresWins 4 года назад
Chi Yung Wong hey! Glad you found the video and it’s been helpful. By the sounds of things you are more than qualified to get a site engineers job. Not being chartered is actually more Common these days especially if you take the site engineers route. So I wouldn’t worry about that! 😀

@@SheWhoDaresWins Thanks for the advice. Here is Hong Kong the role of a Site Engineer is slightly different to that in UK. Here we don't need to do any setting out or levelling, all done by in-house surveyors or it is subbed out. Anyway I will be getting in touch with the three recruitment agencies you linked and hope they can find something suited to my experience with Main Contractors, if all fails I'll try working for free for a week as you advised.

I'm 21 I currently work as a glazier apprentices. I work for a small company so I have a lot of different tasks every day. So far I've learned to fabricate and install screens, insulated units and storm windows, cut table glass and mirrors, install showers, mirrors, and table tops as well as replace windshields for cars. I've been in the job for about 9 months. I also started my first semester for a degree in Construction Technology. I hope to continue progressing at my current job while I earn my degree (about 2 years). Once I graduate, I am considering learning to fix and flip houses. My dad is a real estate agent and my brother is a HVAC technician. It'd be nice to think we could all work together in investing in real estate as a family. How do i make the jump from glazing to becoming a general contractor?

Thank you for your great videos, Michelle! I have rather an unusual question. I freelance as either an Assistant Site Manager or Internals Site Manager for main contractors in South East. Fed up of CMLs, lazy trades and now decided to make a transition into Engineering and considering either taking a course and/or a few lessons with my mate who does it for living. Since you have experience working in both roles, please advise on what it the likelihood of blagging a job as Setting-Out Engineer come summer, without going through a lower-paid transition like Chain Person? What are the most important skills to stay afloat? Would NVQ6 in SM be of any help lending a job as an Engineer? Thank you. Andy
@SheWhoDaresWins
@SheWhoDaresWins 4 года назад
Andy Web hey Andy. I do know quite a few site managers who have made the transition! The good thing is you have site experience and you know what requires setting out so that’s good. I would probably shadow someone for a week or so then maybe do an intensive 2 week course on the kit. That’s what I did. Then I found a job with other engineers on so I could learn from them. Big projects are the best for that rather than anything like housing. Unless your comfortable with using the kit. With hard work and willingness you can defo make the transition.

A constructor?". This is haunting me till today but there is a hope because of the all those campaigns recruiting and encouraging women to construction industry. Who's laughing now, motherf... :P I've managed to claim Statement of Comparability for Construction Skills, I'm back on track. What worries me, NARIC let me to apply for blue CSCS Card but back in those times, my boss were laughing at me when I asked to take me on site. Well I came to Canada to make a career in game design but due to massive competition and skilled people I don’t wanna continue anymore. I’m 23 right now Although my parents have spend 35,000$ CAD for just 2 year of education I don’t see any bright future and returns to so since its pretty easy for me to to understand practical work I want to enter in a construction work after or in between my studies and full time on work permit I need some way or guidance from where I can start and end up heaving pretty high paid job in it. Life is so thought out here every day I just end up having one though in my mind just quit 😞

Varun oh sorry to hear that. I have no idea what the industry is like in Canada but I’m guessing down on site experience in labouring might be a great gateway in whilst you continue your studies?

Hi thanks for the vids very useful, am 27 years old currently working as a gateman just on a site which I find quite boring, I also have plastering experience which I want to continue but I know I can’t do this long term as it’s hard on your body after a while. I always wanted to get into site management what’s the best routes to take. Can I achieve this without going to uni ?

Yes you can become a manager without a degree. Most don’t have them. Most work their way up from labourer, to machine workerer or ganger to manager. You just have to show willing

I’m looking at changing career from a sales based environment. I’m 32 years old and looking at getting into labouring for experience. Do you often find people around my age or older who start off at a labouring level? I do intend to move up the ranks from labouring after getting experience and hoping that it will help.

I’m in my second year at college but would like to start an apprenticeship next year. I’m pretty sure I would like it to be in some area of construction. I’m just struggling on knowing exactly what each job entails so I can be sure exactly which one I would like to get into. I just know I want an active/physical job where I’m just given a job and go and do it. I’m also struggling on finding work experience. What you said about the cscs card, can literally anyone apply for this?

Hello, I want to start job in construction but got no experience at all in this industry I’m more focused on 360 excavators job because recently I done my CPCS training for it so got red card I phoned like 10 agencies but I didn’t get any response because most of them looking operators with blue CPCS. What is the best way to find a job then? Cheers.
@SheWhoDaresWins
@SheWhoDaresWins 2 года назад
The card things is frustratingly annoying. I’d say just try and get whatever start you can even on the ground then as soon as a firm knows you can drive they’ll hopefully give you a start. Agencies can be fickle maybe try and get a direct job first?
