Easily the best turbo paint demonstration on RU-vid. Proof of concept, excellent tutorial with DIYers in mind. I have been on the fence about doing this with my project, or dropping money on compressors, air hoses, paint guns and product. It's one car and it can be done. I appreciate your knowledge sharing, the time you put into this and your willingness to answer questions in the comments. 👍

@Mr.Wongburger
@Mr.Wongburger Месяц назад
@@docdildonica7515 You're just being pedantic. The instruction on how to paint was in the totality of the video. Did you need him to teach you how to hold the can? Place your index finger on the spray nozzle? How to move your arm back and forth? The act of painting was thoroughly covered in this video series using a spray can. If you're unable to discern that, you should not be attempting to paint anything.

Hack tip someone may have already mentioned, warm up your rattle cans before using. I always put my cans in a bucket of hot tap water for 15-20 minutes before using. Even spray the whole way through the can. Love the content brother!

I’ve always dreamed of having a shop one day but my gravel driveway is probably as good as it’ll ever get. I’m 54 years old. I’m a decent mechanic. I do all my own and satisfy myself lol. I never been a paint and body guy though. I been trying to learn a little. I put floor pans in my 74 f100 last year and fixed a few other rust holes in the doors and body. I welded in metal , I didn’t put bondo over the rust holes. Lol
@ACDesignsGarage

Hahaha you can do it, that's why I've been showing guys how to do this stuff outside because not everyone has a shop and I've done a ton of work outside lol. Your doing it right, weld them holes up!!!

This is what I did, maybe you can look into it. I too have a gravel driveway, what I did was- Got 1 inch thick, horse stall mats. They’re about 8 ft by 4 ft. I put those on my gravel spot. I bought 8x4 ground contact 1/2 inch plywood, covered the entire thing making a 10x20 pad. Then because I like being extra safe I bought 3/4 inch ground contact pressure treated plywood, screws that onto the 1/2 inch which is screwed to the mats. Then I got me a 10x20 carport for $200. I used pallet wood to make the work bench and put my Iroc z28 I’m building in there, it’s a lot better then crawling on gravel lol (My car can fit in there completely. But with my engine lift, engine stand, tool box. It sticks out 2 feet. Which I don’t mind. But I wired up LED lights in there, which run off $60 solar panels I bought on Amazon. Then I have a 4 outlet adapter that’s connected to an extension cord for my welder, angle grinder etc

Unreal! I'm in a current project with rusted out wheel wells, (and other spots). After the repairs are done, I was wondering about this whole process over old paint, and new repair, blending, AND it's all outside, (blah, blah, blah...)! This made my decision much easier to move forward with, (the indecision of), "should I just spray paint the repair, then blend by cut & polish the rest...or wet sand the whole panel, then primer, paint, clear coat" so yeah, lets do the panel...I felt the whole CLEAR COAT, after the polishing, is really impressive! Thanks!

@@ACDesignsGarage An ugly bugly 74 standard that I put 66 hood and apron, fenders, and rear decklid and apron, and early t-bars on it to completely de-ugly it. 74s had those big collapsible bumpers and elephant foot tailights. Nasty. I've seen your 66! That's how I found your channel. I took the body off mine and refurbed the pan, new pan halves, discs all around, homemade airbag suspension. Your welding vids helped with that too! I have limited tools and no garage. Backyard boogie kinda thing. I'm about to start the bodywork and paint. So, that's why I've been following your rattle can vids. I painted the pan with turbo primer and turbo gloss black. Super fast but like you said orange peel like a mug. Lol. No biggie for the pan. But if I paint the body with rusto cans, I'd use the 5 in 1 cans and then spraymax. Your vids help me out a lot, man. Keep up the good work.

Many many moons ago, as a young 16year old getting into buying and selling cars, every-time i needed a paint job on an old motor, i would just mix up some unused paint from storage and either hand paint or roll-on-paint. Followed by sanding and polishing like you did and it always looked 95% or better afterwards. Spay cans came later when the profits built up.

Man, cutting and buffing takes forever manual hand sanding. I feel bad for your back and arms, lol. It's totally worth it though. I'm a beginner and I would never want to do it manual. I'd rather shell out $300 for the big foot any day. Awesome job! What a difference.
@ACDesignsGarage
@ACDesignsGarage 2 месяца назад
Thank you, yeah it's tough. You can do it faster with a DA sander then block by hand the last little bit ,then use the rupes da polisher. I was trying to keep it simple for the beginner. But your right this is the hard way lol.

@@ACDesignsGaragehey bud, I painted my truck exactly how you did this bed, spray max cleared it. Cut it and buffed it and it looks amazing for 2-3 days, then the clear gets foggy or cloudy in some areas. Any ideas on what would cause that?

Basically the 2k acts like a self leveler. It still has the peel after you shoot the clear but then you use a good block and flatten it out, then start polishing. Kinda like bondo does lol.

Got a question for you , I have a 1967 c10 I turbo painted gloss black about 1 yr ago that has a lot of orange peel . Since then I have buffed it with Maguires ultimate polish . What do I need to do to to prepare it for wet sanding and buffing like the other side you did ?NC here also .. Gastonia
@ACDesignsGarage
@ACDesignsGarage 6 дней назад
What your gonna want to do is cut it as flat as you can with out cutting through with 1500 grit wet the step up to 2000 wet, then 2500wet then polish. Basically the 1500 cuts it flat then the rest of the sanding is removing the previous sand scratches. It will start to shine at 2500. Hope this helps. I bought my 72 c10 out of Mt Holly.

Question. The side that you did the 2k clear, you didn't do anything as far as cutting the paint, correct? I'm wondering if you do the clear coat, do you have to worry if the base coat has orange peel or if that goes away once you clear it. Thanks.
@ACDesignsGarage
@ACDesignsGarage 2 месяца назад
Yes I just shot the clear on it as soon as it was tacky. Now if you want to wait a few days you could wet sand with 600 till it was flat the 2k clear it, there would be very little sanding when it came time to cut and buff. The reason I didn't is because I was making different videos! Thanks for watching!!!!
@jackdunn7652

First off thank you for these videos! They are very helpful! I just painted my car yesterday and ran into a slight issue and was wondering if you could give me your input. I got the car fully covered with paint, and put on multiple layers. However I think I held the can too far away (especially on the roof) I noticed the surface is very gritty in areas. Not like an orange peel but more of a sandpaper gritty texture. I want to put the 2k clear on the car to finish it but here is the question. Would you wet sand the car and put another paint layer on top before the 2k clear or just wet sand and clear??
@ACDesignsGarage
@ACDesignsGarage Месяц назад
Awesome, it sounds like it's a little dry sprayed in areas. It happens to all of us. If it were me I would wet sand the whole area with like 600 grit then let it tac and shoot the 2k to it, it will give you a slicker job. Now you can just wetsand it again with 600 to 800 grit lightly as long as you dont cut through your color then you can 2k clear it. These are the two options that I would do. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!!!!
@jackdunn7652
@jackdunn7652 Месяц назад
@@ACDesignsGarage thank you sir!! I will wet sand it down in a few days. 1 more question, since I had a lot of dry spray the paint also came out very dull. Once I put the 2k clear coat on top does it make any difference if the paint underneath the clear was glossy or dull/matte? Or does 100% of the shine come from the clear coat and the shine of the paint underneath doesn’t really matter? I’m trying to get the car as glossy as possible and don’t mind spraying another layer of paint after the 600 grit sand if that will help it be more shiny at the end of the project 🙌
@jackdunn7652
@jackdunn7652 21 день назад
@@ACDesignsGarage Hey! Just thought I’d write my findings on sanding the paint before the clear/ spraying paint followed by clear over the fresh paint. I did it side by side on two separate pieces of metal I had laying around. The sanded paint piece I used 400grit since that’s what I had. That panel was more reflective and cleaner than the other panel. Also quick question, I just clear coated my car today and didn’t order enough of the 2k clear. I would like to add another coat or 2 but it will be days before I can get any in from Amazon. I’m assuming I would just need to sand the clear and put another layer down over top. I don’t see anything online about spraying another layer of clear over dried clear. Have you done that before or have any input on that?
@Alwayz_Angry
@Alwayz_Angry Месяц назад
I’m watching the series and slight confused. Did you do 2 coats on the first side followed by a cut/buff then you did 2 coats on the driver side skipped cut/buff and jumped right into 2k clear coat? I also noted you had more distance on the 2nd side it orange peeled less, so far am I right?
@ACDesignsGarage
@ACDesignsGarage Месяц назад
Yes, sorry for the confusion. Yes the first one I did 2 coats then cut and buffed. The other side I figured out if I had more distance the peel was less,( always experimenting lol) as soon as the paint was tacked up I shot the 2k clear then I let it dry a day or two then cut and buffed. That 2k clear was amazing!!
