Hey lovelies, in this video I will show you how to achieve a beautiful, professional looking finish for your epoxy resin tumblers by using a flood coat. If you've heard about flood coats and are unsure about what they are, or how they can be used, this video will show you how to successfully do one while discussing its benefits and uses.

This tumbler (and your tutorial) is amazing! I'm obsessed with the tumbler design! I found a honeycomb design on your etsy page but I'm wondering how you made the honeycombs on this tutorial - they look amazing - is it a leopard print inside the individual honeycomb? Did you do a peekaboo to get that effect? You are so talented - please please makes more tutorials on your tumblers - especially this one!
@LovelyLouLouDesigns
@LovelyLouLouDesigns Год назад
Thank you so much! You are completely correct in that it is a peek-a-boo for the honeycomb. The chunky glitter mix in the centre band is under the top section of the tumbler as well. I used the honeycomb design in my Etsy shop to make the peek-a-boo cut outs. This is a tutorial I have had a lot of requests for. I took an extended break last year but am getting back into tutorials now so I will be making one for this tumbler as well. 🙂

Very helpful video, thank you! I have a question about excess epoxy getting inside the tumbler... You mentioned cleaning the rim of the tumbler, but it looks like there is a chance that epoxy would get further into the cup, how do you clean or prevent? Thank you!
@LovelyLouLouDesigns
@LovelyLouLouDesigns 2 года назад
I don't usually have an issues with epoxy dripping too far down into the tumbler. When I'm doing last coat I will use acetone on a Q-tip to make sure my room is clean. If anything does drip inside, since the tumblers aren't prepped inside, the epoxy pops off easily. I will usually use an exacto knife and just pop it off in one piece.

@luvlymexicana
@luvlymexicana 4 года назад
What grit do you sand your tumblers?
@LovelyLouLouDesigns
@LovelyLouLouDesigns 4 года назад
It depends. If all I'm doing is roughing up the surface a bit to give the epoxy something to adhere to, I will use a finer grit like 240 :)
@TheMsnielsen
@TheMsnielsen 2 года назад
Just making sure I heard right. Do you double the amount of epoxy for the flood coat?
@LovelyLouLouDesigns
@LovelyLouLouDesigns 2 года назад
I don't double, but I do mix up a bit more. So if I usually mix 10 ml for a 20 oz, I will mix 15 ml for the flood coat. If I waiting a bit longer it isn't as sticky, mixing the regular amount is fine

The epoxy is still wet when I do the acetone. I'm just going over the rim and inside. since it's still wet it will seal, harden and cure.

Stupid question and a newbie...when you mixed the second round of epoxy, did you use a new mixing cup or was it added to the leftover from your first coat?
@EmilyMineDesigns
@EmilyMineDesigns 3 года назад
You will want to use a new cup. Your parts need to be exact and using the same cup could cause your ratios to be off. Also, after 2 hours and 45 minutes, the epoxy left in that first mixing cup would be very sticky.

A flood coat is a coat that is 1/8 inch thick. I feel like you used the same amount as the sealing coat after you removed what you called the excess. Regardless, your cups wind up looking immaculate, so I guess it doesn't matter what you call it, lol.
@LovelyLouLouDesigns
@LovelyLouLouDesigns 3 года назад
Lol when I apply a coat of epoxy on top of a coat of epoxy that is only dried between 3 to 5 hours, I always have to use more or I risk "damaging" the bottom coat. It may look thin, but it is significantly thicker than my bottom coat :)
