That was a whole bunch of detailed advice!! One question through. There was a lot made out of budding actors’ social media presence when Sophie Turner very publicly stated that she got a film role over another actress because she had more IG followers than the other lady. Which makes sense I guess because there is demonstrably a bigger audience for her and therefore less risk. How big of an impact do you think that has on agencies picking up actors? I’m fairly certain it’s seen as a big plus for literary agencies regarding budding authors.
Thanks for watching! That is a great question. Unfortunately I am not an agent, so I can't really say. In all likelihood it does happen, however as actors it does us no good to worry about that or go out and buy followers in an attempt to get an agent. All we can do is work on being the best actor we can be.
Lexi Redman that’s a good point. Everyone has plenty to worry about with adding other unknowns onto the pile. Knowing this would probably help a lot of people with who spiral into whirlpools of self-doubt and anxiety!
Hey Lexi! Loving your videos. Curious where you originated from? I am an Ontario resident myself and looking to relocate in the next decade. Just about to start my pre employment electrical program at STC in July and then onto my apprenticeship! Afterword I would love to move and experience more of Canada.
Congrats on starting your program! I am originally from Victoria, but moved to Vancouver 3 years ago. The Lower Mainland is a good choice as there is a lot of construction going on!
@@LexElectric I am moving to Victoria and I will have to live there for a while. Do you believe it is possible to start an acting career there? Do you have any tips to share? Thanks for your attention!
@@nataliapimenta8484 there are definitely a lot of creative people out there. Some small parts cast out of Victoria, and I am betting more now that self tapes have become the standard. I haven't lived there in a few years so I am not sure how the scene has evolved.
Hey Lex, I'm in first year of theatre degree and only did school theatre before this. Should I start trying to find an agent/agency or should I get some more experience/training ? Also, I saw in one of the comments that you got your headshots from rebecca roberts studio, but I couldn't find any by this name on google
Hi Lex!! How are you? I was wondering if you had any advice for getting an abject at 12 years old. It’s always been my dream! Not to sound selfish just that we love in the same area.
Everytime your look changes ie/ major hair cut or dye. Or if you have had the same one for several years and are not booking auditions, its a good idea to freshen up.
But like can you make it big living in Vancity? Can you get into like Hollywood movies or something? Is there a possibility of becoming a movie actor living in Vancouver instead of LA or NYC? :)
Personally I would take acting classes and try to work on a few short films (student films, self funded films etc) to see how you like it before diving in to a 4 year program.
AMAW, Railtown, and Andrew McIlroy. All three are very different so it depends what you're looking for. Audit classes and go from there. As far as schools, I know Langara offers a great program that is not as insanely expensive as some other for-profit schools.
Hi girl! That was helpful since I m thinking of moving to Vancouver. I am originally from Greece and I work professionally in theater and film and as an acting teacher for 15 years (combined). With BA in Acting and MA in Drama. Could you suggest any agency that takes up also international actors? (Meaning not from Canada originally). Thanks. Stay safe!
Hey! I am not sure about international work, that would be something to look up for immigration purposes. Agencies that would take on international actors would likely need you to have a work permit and some acting credits.
@@LexElectric Hi. Yes, I mean after immigrating to Vancouver. I do have credits in Greece and UK. I am a working actress since 2001 mainly for stage productions and since 2009 I have been working as an acting teacher. I was just thinking Vancouver cause I believe that it is a better option for a foreign actor who doesn't have that many credits than anywhere else. Thanks!
Hey, that's awesome. Here is a model agency submission guide I wrote on my blog. Check it out for all you need to know about submitting. lexiredman.wixsite.com/home/single-post/2018/08/29/How-to-Submit-to-Modelling-Agencies
I'm 17 about to graduate highschool. The only training I have is 5 years if Drama/Acting class. Do i do more, or go ahead with finding an agent at this age?
Its roughly $160 CAD a year. There is no way around paying. You can still have an IMDB page, but you can only add photos / customize if you pay for it.
Right now: abysmal. The world is totally shut down and I don't know when it will open up. But from my previous experience, Vancouver Actors Guide usually had between 10-15 student film submissions at any given time. I would also reach out to anyone you know who is in film school and put your name out there.
@@neverevenheardofit For Meisner specifically Rogues West. For other scene studies I have been with Railtown and AMAW. Most places allow you to audit so once schools open up again you can try a few out to see what fits.
Agencies will receive calls from casting directors with the role they are looking to fill. Agencies will then send them your info if you fit the age/look etc. Then casting will decide whether or not to bring you in for an audition.
@@zwirl225 I would recommend doing acting classes first. Most agencies won't be interested if you have no experience. Once you're ready, check out Vancouver Actors Guide for their list of agencies and send in your submission list. Check to see if they accept child actors before applying.
