Great video dude! I am currently looking for employment as well as a electrical apprentice. I recently completed my pre-employment in June but finding an employer(s) is really tough up in Thompson, Manitoba. They have 4 electrical contractors at this very moment. I handed my resumes to each of them but still no word from any of them. I was thinking of being persistent but don't wanna come on too strong & be annoying to them. Especially winter season , they may not be looking for workers I am thinking. I have no other alternative
I'm from canada (ontario) and i'm in 11th grade and we have what's called a placement or a coop education. Like for instance this semester I'm in school but instead of having classes, i only have a placement. So I actually work for an electrical company everyday for the whole semester.
Hey this may be one of your older comments but may I ask how did you find a sponsor to start your apprenticeship? I live in Ontario and am looking to join the pre-apprenticeship program too but just a bit not so sure about how difficult to find a spot for year 1 apprentices. Thanks
I am currently a graphic design/video editor and have shit to no luck finding a job. I'm 37 and thinking of a career change, but don't want to take a 3rd (or technically 4th) college under my belt in my life... I need to just make money and make up for all the useless education and money wasted if anything. That's why I feel being an apprentice to a higher paying job like this would be beneficial, but I'm afraid of this not working out either. As of right now, I know nothing about being an electrician, but I want to get my foot in the door as an apprentice after maybe taking some free online courses or tutorials or whatever could educate me. How easy is it from there on up though?
I took an electrical techniques program for a year, that goes over pretty much everything when it comes to installing outlets and what not, with quite a bit of theory added onto it. I however have had zero luck on finding a job due to electricians completely ignoring my emails. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem or not. I live in London Ontario which is in the southwestern part of Ontario.
@@DonkeysBreath yes it's a program to help you obtain a better chance then someone with no knowledge at all to get into the trade. www.fanshawec.ca/programs/elt1-electrical-techniques/next this is the program that i took.
All right after looking it is not clear to me that the course is a direct pre request for an app. But my next question is, have you gone looking for a job in person? I always found all my work in person/ through trade contacts
@@DonkeysBreath I been emailing people due to this pandemic, but get zero replies back regarding wether or not they hiring any form of apprentices. Most of them are asking for third to fourth year. I don't know a lot of contacts of people in this trade, which seems to be a battle at the moment for me it seems.
Hey man a honest question I would like to ask is what classes do I take? What program do the schools offer for me to take that pre app before I try looking for something. That’s the biggest part I’m confused on like what is the title of what that program of classes is like?
this varies a lot on where you are in the world, i can only directly comment on bc and some of Canada. but generally its called a pre apprenticeship program.
Hello, just one question I am planning to attain a degree on electrical technology by attending community college, my question is that after I have my certificate or diploma can I start working right after and be an apprentice on the job ? Or do I have to go through an apprenticeship program with additional courses and stuff to complete that requirement?
Where I’m located in Canada, the electrical tachnology deg will get you no were in an apprenticeship. You will have to start from the bottom and work though your four terms of school and 6000 hours. The two careers are different, I’ve only ever met one technologist in the field over my three years
I live in Los Angeles. And I thought that the degree fulfilled the schooling part . Also on the document of the courses it said that electrical technology can help you become an electrician
Is it worth it to take out 20k loan to go to a trade school to become and electrician? They said everything will be hands on and gave me a tour(there’s even a small house inside we can work on). I’m wondering if it’s worth or not
iv never heard of first year school costing anything near that, so no. to get through first year pre app course should cost something like this 3000 for course 4.5 months rent food done to me that sound more like 5k up front investment then you go get a job to afford the next year after approximately 1500 hours of work. mind you this is in CAD.
DonkeysBreath I just don’t know what else to do. I’m supposed to be starting on the 26th and most reviews for the school have been positive. But the cost is what’s making me consider not going anymore. The rep told me that there will be hands on training and they help people find jobs.
What is the best way to about going for an apprenticeship, from what I read there is different paths to go towards an apprenticeship. I’m thinking going and apply at my local ibew but I’m not sure if I should go to school?
hello man! If I take electrical engineering technician program ( 2 year Diploma) will it reduce the number of years in an apprenticeship to become a journey man? Thank you
@@DonkeysBreath I am in BC would it be better if I take the 2 year diploma and then apprentice? Good on my resume and higher chance of getting employed right? Or it doesnt matter for employers.
hey i was wondering if i went to become an apprenticeship for 5 years to become an electrician (journeyman ) after i’m done and i get a certificate will i be able to get a job after i’m done with the 5 years and i get my certificate or would i have to attend a trade school or college to continue this career
I’m not the most experienced person to talk about unions, They can help you get a jobAnd keep your job security however they can hold you back if you’re skilled worker because they follow the Sinyard he system not the who is better gets work system
Sean Butler I heard that the union takes 1 to 2 years to get accepted but my advice would be call them early February and ask them about their apprenticeship program and they will tell you to take a test, you need to get a good mark like around 70% or higher so you can get a better chance they will put you in the middle of the line but if you get a lower mark like 50 or 60% you could still get in but you’d be put in the back of line. That’s what they told me when I called them local 636 in Ontario Canada idk about the us and plus math, English, physics or algebra needed but some just needs algebra it depends on your local.
@@6ixslidetakeover336 hey thanks a lot! I actually just barely took that aptitude test and I'm waiting for my results. Right now there are tons of jobs!
As long as they are rated for your class of electrical work ( aka mite not be acceptable for heavy acrflash scenarios). In Canada almost every steel toe meets the CSA spec and has the electrical approval beside the “green triangle “
DonkeysBreath have you ever come across someone trying to offer you sex instead of money for you work? For some reason I feel that make happen a couple times Lol
