Everyone talks about the M1 Garand as being one of the best Military Surplus rifles to own. By doing a quick search online, you will find they are not very cheap. Well, you're in luck! There's a government charted organization called The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). They promote firearms safety and marksmanship. In their stores and on their website, they sell M1 Garands, M1903s, Krags, and a few other military surplus weapons and accessories. The M1s they have are some of the cheapest you could ever find. There's a catch though... you have to meet their eligibility requirements... but no fear, it's actually quite simple. In this video we show you how to purchase an M1 Garand from the Civilian Marksmanship Program
🚧 Edit: Few states have stricter laws so the CMP cannot shop to your home address if you live in one of the few states. Check the CMP website for details.
🛎Update 12/31: I just went to the TMP store in Talladega, they had a lot of Gap Letters, a few Rack IHC’s and some M1C’s. They filled up a bit more than half a rack. The clerk informed me that they had four full racks at the beginning of the month. On Thier website, only the expert grade is available currently.
🛎 Update 01/28/22: The North Store in Ohio is now open as of Jan 27th, Thursday through Friday 8-4.
🛎️ Update: You must provide a copy of a U.S. birth certificate, (an enhanced driver’s license is no longer accepted as of 2/8/23), passport, proof of naturalization, or any official government document (when using a military ID to prove citizenship, must be an E5 or above) that shows birth in the U.S. or states citizenship as U.S. Law enforcement status if you are a Federal officer.

I was unaware of your platform until a few minutes ago... now I will be looking for it... concise, no bullshirt, thank you...I got my first M-1 from the CMP in 1980... got home from work and there was a box with a rifle in it on my porch...I think I will get another one now... the CMP is a very unknown and overlooked program... very glad they still exist....

This is great advice man! I’m going to look into this for sure. I’m about to take my Enhanced Concealed Carry course in Tennessee to obtain my CC permit. I live in Chattanooga, TN about two hours from Anniston, AL! I know my grandfather definitely shot one of these when he was in the Army in WWII. I also know my great uncle carried an M-1 in the Korean War as an infantry sergeant (he also carried a bazooka) I would love to have one of these and feel the nostalgia of what Patton once called “The greatest battle implement ever devised.”

I believe when they state “enhanced” they are referring to specific licenses issued by each state within the last 10 years or so. I didn’t know my drivers license was “enhanced” until I asked them. It’s probably best to call them and find out more details if you have an older license or are unsure.

Yeah, thanks but at the time you posted this, no rack grades, field grades, or service grades were available, and no .308 rifles as well. Only .30-06 Expert grades at $1000, one of which I bought. A couple months later they went to $1150. I wish I had been smart enough to to grab a Service grade in the decades they were available (one of my dumber moves, but now having a CCW makes the marksmanship activity requirement easy) for as low as $250 in the early ‘90’s, but at least I got an Expert with original SA receiver. As of December 2022 they have some hard used Rack grades at $700, some Rack grade + with new stocks at $850, and SA ($1150) and WRA ($1350) Expert grades only.

@@BattlefieldCurator I’m hoping that someday they come across a stash of rifles that would qualify for the “good to very good” Service Grade category again. I know others can handle it, but I’m not interested in trying to fix up a shot out Rack grade rifle, even though it would be a nice piece of history. I’m pleased with the SA Expert they sent me, which was made in January 1944, so I’d like to think someone carried it 6 months later in France and Germany. If I ever get to Alabama or Ohio, I’m definitely stopping by a CMP store!

I am 20, I live in PA. I am also enlisting in the US Air Force. Any advice on me getting an M1 Garand under this circumstance. I don't know if it's BS or not. My cousin who went and joined PA Army National Guard said you can get M1 Garands for insanely good prices or for free. I can't remember which one. It's been a month or two since I have actually talked to him. But all I have to do is put my CAC in with paperwork and voila, M1 for a outstanding price. Question is, if I'm on the military, do I get a discount? Also, do I have the ability to travel any state without any legal problems?
@BattlefieldCurator

Good questions. Definitely not for free, but with your in the military, the military affiliation should make you eligible to meet the requirements. Not sure about age though. @@BattlefieldCurator Actually, it varies by State. I just read that. I live in PA and I'm going to Texas for BMT and Tech school. I am certain that I have to be 18 years old or older. States like Florida and whatnot are requiring 21. I don't know what BS my cousin was spouting about a free M1 Garand Off a website. If that was the case. We probably wouldn't have such a recruiting crisis. But, why does it say though I have to be a Staff Sergeant or better? Like I'm not waiting 3-4 years here. I probably won't even be stateside in 3-4 years. Knowing what's going on. I might be in Germany.
