It's funny, I posted a video a couple of days ago where i tested the EOS R and the 90D with the Nifty Fifty at night in the worst possible light conditions...without applying any of your suggestions....BUT I did it on purpose...creating the worst possible scenario for shooting videos....and see how bad the footage would be...I even shot b-rolls in 120fps eheh....Of course, as I also say in my video, if we want to make sure to get usable footage...we have to do what you say in this video. I really enjoyed it....Keep it up!

One of the best ways to nail that exposure is to break all the rules. But it is best to bring your own light in the end and since you have the most control over most of the environment, it wouldn't hurt.

I'm really enjoying your videos, Josh. I'm having the opposite problem - my channel is based around car detailing and my issue is balancing exposure on a bright day when spraying foam onto a car beside a white house! It always looks fine on the camera display but I need sunglasses when in post 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣. I'm very new to this and I'll get there, especially with help from your channel, its VERY much appreciated 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 (FYI, I'm using a Canon M50 Mirrorless)

Capturing a large dynamic range with a digital camera can be extremely challenging (that means shooting a scene that has both dark shadows, as well as bright lights in the same shot). Typically the rule is to actually lower your exposure darker than you normally would. This preserves detail in the bright parts of an image, and then you can actually bring the shadows up to a normal level in your editing software (this is possible with both photo and video). So many questions Josh. I got a canon SL3/200DMk2?250D and there is no NR setting i could find. For the life of me i cannot understand the auto light optimizer and highlight tone priority. Have you made any vids on these?
