Brave CF and 2011 NCAA Wrestling Division 1 champion, Bubba Jenkins, talks about how to get creative with your fighting style. We stress the importance of mastering the basics and fundamentals, but at what point do we branch out and add our own flair? Bubba answers that question. After all, it is martial ARTS. Be sure to congratulate the champ on his victory this past weekend in Abu Dhabi!

I met Bubba when he came to my high school to do a seminar for wrestling about 9 years ago, he taught me how to snap someone’s neck down similar to the way Tony Ferguson does and how it opens you to get a firemen’s carry or take them for a gator roll. It’s crazy seeing him again I never forgot what he was teaching us that day

Creativity imo is just being like Tony Ferguson. You just gotta be yourself, regardless of what or how other see you. If you have the extreme confident and feel that free under your skin. You are gonna move in whatever way that suit you, move whatever way your body and mind take you. You will be naturally trying all those move in practice yourself. Trying so hard to make yourself a creative fighter never works. If you ain't meant to be like that, you will just open up yourself to vulnerability that lead you no where and you will be stuck in the middle. Everyone is meant to have different fighting style. If your body and mind never lead you to explore new things yourself, then don't force it. It's perfectly fine staying tight guarded and technical, 'cause that is who you are.

@soullight8632
@soullight8632 6 лет назад
I disagree. I'll bring up a few points to consider. 1) it takes years and years to master the techniques of an art. You'd be losing focus without a little extra stimuli 2) Creativity (at least to me) is a form of self expression. Self expression is an integral part of mental health (stifle yourself too much and bad shit happens) meaning to stifle it is to weaken your mental strength. 3) Some degree of individuality grows over time, a result of years of what does and doesn't work. That in itself is a minor form of creativity 4) No creativity means being more predictable (not the be all end all but contributed greatly) 5) Creativity used together with fundamentals help each other. (Creativity in the match forces an opponent to use more mental resources up, allowing your fundamentals to sneak through) 6) it's Martial Arts. not Martial Techniques

Five tips for the underdog nice creativity in the wrestling and somersault in the moment. My creativity When I did wrestling I didn’t collegiate and freestyle. Done a lot of Martial arts Since then I’ve Street fighting as well. Button freestyle wrestling when I was on on all four. Instead of working around him I would do the superman. It’s where your chest is just Past Mid Of his back he’s on all fours squatting down I then lift my legs really quick tap and spin around on his back and then I’m behind him and one Quick moment. In squalid position one hand on waste the other hand on his arm is he still on all four then you can move in there. It’s known as the superman is that even make everyone knows it.

Is it normal for a right handed person to fight in a southpaw stance? I only ask because I’m right handed, and I feel the most comfortable in a southpaw stance. I throw my left hand about the same amount as my right, and I think my left cross is actually stronger than my right cross when I got into a orthodox stance.

Hi Shane
@samsheepdog697
@samsheepdog697 6 лет назад
Hey there Shane, I've been watching your channel a lot. Very cool experience you've got, and thanks for posting all those fights for us. It's much more instuctional to watch amateur fighters than pros, cause the mistakes and sucesses are more relatable to my reality. I think that it could be beneficial for you to rework that style. For now, it's looking very unpolished, like Ross Pearson. "just go, throw combos and expect them to open up". If you look at sucessful agressive fighters, they are either: 1. Volume punchers such as Max holloway (MMA), Lomachenko (boxing). They are much smaller than you for their weight class (you were definitelly bigger than all of your opponents and therefore slower unless you explode). They are also very creative in their attacks, which is not the case with you (not trying to shit on you, we are still amateurs so this is normal). 2. In-your-face one shot KO guys such as Mcgregor, GGG. They don't attack like crazy, but always stay at a short distance and somewhat stationary. They pick their shots, always aiming to hurt the opponents. 3. Very mobile in-and-out fighters such as Demetrious Johnson, TJ Dillashaw, Roy Jones. This is not the case with you too, you seem to be always in the mid-range. They are also much leaner than you 4. Last but not least you could go full Tyson, Fedor, Cain Velasquez style and be hyper-agressive. (although Tyson/fedor pick their shots and Cain throws more numbers, like you). You've got the cardio and the chin to fight like this, so why not? I have much in common with you, so took some time thinking about our current style. This is my conclusion: We are both young, smart guys with good lives. This also means we're afraid to get hurt or KOed. Combined with many light sparring sessions (teaching friends, students etc) we got to this very innefective style. Here's some very old footage of me ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vlONKS5e5w8.html Yeah I can beat some 16 year old kids in the gym but this would suck in a real amateur or pro bout. To wrap it up, I'm a pussy and never got to compete in a real striking competition (my teacher left the gym and I ended up coaching classes for a year, never got real preparation for competitions after that). Now I'm thinking of coming back and doing some amateur bouts. Thanks for reading and please let me know if my points are flawed. After all, this is just theory and my ideas could be wrong.
