Nice work good control, seen a few on you tube where the welds look beautiful but not a thought about the most important thing penetration, or their over feeding leaving dry edges both would fall any dye pen or Xray test, you took time to ensure that you only feeding reservoir when reservoir was ready, as I said nice work.

This video will be way better if they kept the camera in on the arc shot like he is staying in that root. Excellent description of the true craft but the video editing and shots were more like a more like a marketing video. This guy knows puddle control but the videographer and editor didn't show it, they were too busy playing yoyo with the cuts. I'd love to learn in person from this guy but the video guy can stay at catering.

Can I ask two questions? As you are welding steel, does argon have to be used or can an argon C02 mix be used? With the welding of the pipe, was TIG welding used as a demonstration of what can be done or would MIG welding it be more efficient?
@mehielbabishoff1583
@mehielbabishoff1583 7 месяцев назад
Pure Argon for TIG always or you can have helium. As far as MiG vs TIG , it depends on what the engineer , inspector or certification test is requiring and following the requirements of a Welding Procedure Specification “wps” . Hope that helps.

Does that color really add anything to the weld?
@natenate2280
@natenate2280 Год назад
you arent really asking the right question because the color is a byproduct of the metal being welded while being shielded by the argon gas. The color at the end is a result of the gas reacting to the heat of the weld pool so you can judge a weld by it's color when tigging because if the color is consistent and the right color(s) then you know the heat and travel speed was consistent through out the weld.
@j.shorter4716
@j.shorter4716 Год назад
@@natenate2280 not necessarily true. The color of the weld is only determined by the temperature of the metal when it is exposed to the open air. You could make two identical welds- one with a a regular cup and then one with a trailing cup and one would have color and the other wouldn’t.
@thzzzt
@thzzzt Год назад
Good question. Isn't the "gold" just oxidation, or some alloy element coming out? In that case why would you want it?
@smileyguyz
@smileyguyz Год назад
@@thzzzt In my experience, it's gonna oxidize a little no matter what. Especially when it's that hot. If you've ever wire brushed the color off a fresh stainless weld, and then left it to cool down you'll know what I mean. Some color comes back in a few minutes as it re-oxidizes, steel (and most metals) are generally going to oxidize slightly a lot faster than you would think. Especially aluminum, it can build a pretty protective layer of oxidization in less than 10 minutes, hell even a few seconds if you've ever tried to make a coke can crumble with gallium.

@kellydenmark6942

Nice weld but I gotta say, I’ve welded miles of heavy wall and have never had to be anywhere close to 200 amps to ensure “tying in”. Honestly a 200 amp hot pass is ridiculous considering if you watch in the video you can see you reconsuming the root. Your root shouldn’t be a big glowing molten puddle while putting in a hot pass. Makes sense why you didn’t show the condition of the root after the hot pass. Last thing, I also have my cwi and there is absolutely nothing in B31.1 or B31.3 that restricts weave widths, especially on carbon steal. There are kilojoule parameters that you can’t exceed but that’s on your stainlesses, exotics like hastelloy or Inconel and chrome base metals. Appreciate the video either way. Nice finish to the weld.
@InchFab
@InchFab Год назад
Yeah that root looked a little chunky, right?

Only thing I can say about the current is the fact that it's sch120 I think he said. Just a weird video concept.
@Ball-Sweatz
@Ball-Sweatz Год назад
@kellydenmark6942 yeah 100% agree with you. Been welding heavy wall and thin wall and everything in between for 10 years now and there is no reason at all to be at such a ridiculous hot pass amperage. Dude’s interpass temp is cooked every layer at that amperage. Hell 150 would be plenty for the hot pass. Glad somebody else thought the same on this stupid hot pass amperage. And I’d argue that it’s STUPID all day long. And he should stagger them stops on top
@jeepwk6.5L
@jeepwk6.5L Год назад
@@Ball-Sweatz thing is everyone is different. I root this size pipe at 125, hot pass 140 and would do a one pass fill at 200-220 while stuffing it with wire. Then go back down for the cap to 140-160. But then again I'm usually in the rack and stick to 160 the whole time 😂
@pengahn2453
@pengahn2453 Год назад
@@jeepwk6.5L based on his travel speed and wire feeding skills he should run maximum 110amps on his hot pass.
