In this video we take the wrecked 2 door cherokee and begin to transform it into the road worthy vehicle we want. We gut all the parts out of the old comanche for it's goodies to supply into Project Rats Nest and some future projects as well. We install a used radiator, straighten the fins, install and charge the A/C system, install frame stiffeners from Iron Rock Offroad and prep the chassis for a 6.5" ROCK-Link long arm lift kit!

Really enjoy this kind of video. Than enjoy watching you test it out when it's done. I have a YJ that I run on trails then work on and modify as I find weak points. Several modifications come from watching these shows and that saves me grief later on. So thank you and other RU-vid off road builders for your posts

Love it!! I know it's a lot of work, but I like both compilations and in depth how to videos. I'm right behind you on my xj, doing frame stiffeners full length now in preparation for an ls swap and, eventually, one ton axles. This is my first time doing any of that. I really appreciate your wealth of experience and the little tips that you throw out. You've taught me a couple things in this video, alone. That being said, I get excited and motivated by the big picture of the overall build so compilation videos and walk arounds or progress reports are appreciated, too. Thanks for the great content! The XJ specific how to content is what brought me to the BleepinJeep channel and I'm grateful for new projects that'll help me continue on mine.

Because of your fun PUBLIC SERVICE videos....there will be more projects completed, and less fails because of your tips and tricks and great video of parts and rust and everything that overwhelms us sometimes under the Jeep. . It's a big deal to me... to see all of the ways to get it done specific to an XJ. Mine goes into my newly insulated/heated garage in Montana this winter for the frame stiffeners and about a dozen other things on my list. I am doing many of these things to mine, that you did to yours now...without fear of a dead end. I will be needing just a couple of new tools. No problem there. I currently have a great running/driving 1990 XJ 2 door Laredo on 31's. Thanks man. You'll have to come up to Glacier National Park to wheel with me sometime.

I bought the harbor freight 3/8 holesaw spot weld cutter for 5 bucks. Drilled the spot welds out very easily and the old control arm plates came right off. With regular drill bits I managed to go to deep and didn't like all the dimples it left in the unibody + I drilled one right through. 3/8 holesaw bit is the way to go.

THANK YOU for separating tapered ball joint connections the RIGHT and EASY way! I see so many bad recommendations for this simple task that it's ridiculous. If they don't come part using this method, which is rare, I use a cheap ball joint separator from harbor freight to apply more force, then the same hammer trick. Watch out for flying tools haha. You can grind out the U on the tool if it's not big enough too, they're only like 20 bucks.

Need to stop by harbor freight and pick up a vacuum for the a/c if you want really cold air and to be able to test for leaks it’s like 19.99 it hooks to your air hose and if you use it it will put a negative charge onto the lines and make it where you can put more Freon In to make it colder and that’s the proper way to do it

I had overheating problems years ago off road only to pull out and let my CJ cool off. A racing friend overheard me one day bitching about my OH problem. He suggested taking the thermostat moving center section out and leave the outer body in the intake manifold. My CJ never overheated again after a 15 minute modification to the thermostat.

Your videos are great...they fit right in with the BleepinJeep vibe. Personally, I'm a fan of breaking it down into chunks. Like, one video on the frame stiffeners, another one on the radiator, etc. Not that it is too much, but I might just be interested in one aspect of the video. Just my 2 cents...If you keep doing them the way this one was made I'm gonna keep watching them anyway. :)

I believe that the black on the red fender is not paint but electrocoat from when the bodies are dipped into the e-coat tank before color coat. Also if it were me the first thing that I would have removed is the rat chewed hood insulation. That reduces your overall mess. I do that stuff as I go along. You end up with less stress and a better finished product. Good job on cutting out the spot welds to remove that suspension mount. The engine noise may just be piston slap that is normal on early 90s 4.0L. Is will run 300,000 miles like that not a big deal if you can bring yourself to ignore it. Didn’t see you replace the A/C dryer. If the system has been open for some time you need to do that or the A/C won’t work right.

I really like the idea of very stiff bodies, so the unit body stiffeners make a lot of sense to me. I wonder too if the Hooligan Off Road Door Supports plus the unit body stiffeners will help make those long XJ doors close and latch better than when these Jeeps were brand new off the factory assembly line?
