Venus Theory kicks off a new series of Cubase tutorial videos about making modern electronic music with the built-in instruments and built-in samples of Steinberg’s Cubase DAW music software. Cubase loops and samples are a great resource for electronic music production. In this first video Venus Theory introduces the series, explaining how he will look at production workflow, music arrangement, mixing and mastering and finalizing a track. He then starts you off by looking at inspiration from other tracks, working with a reference track and then taking the music in your own direction. He looks at electronic music style elements, creating melodies in the flux wavetable synths in HALion Sonic, then creating a basic rhythm construction, bass and other elements to build the track up.
We hope you find this video entertaining and useful. If you like what you see, please leave a comment and tell us what you think. Thank you.

What you did to those vocal samples in the intro was awesome. Gonna try to learn that.

Thanks! The new Squasher tool is great for bringing out some serious hype to vocal samples.

A great start to what promises to be an awesome series, Cameron. As you said, there are nuggets in here that can apply to a wide range of genres, so kudos to you for putting this together. As a fairly new Cubase 11 Pro user (I switched from Reason 11 during the whole Reason 12 dumpster fire of a mess, and don't regret it for an instant), it's great to see the instruments and tools in Cubase being put to use by someone who really knows what they're doing. Cheers 🙂

Convolution reverb into a compressor was an eye opener. I thought reverb was to follow compression.... Every day learning and re-learning

Glad it was helpful! Welcome to the wild world of Cubase haha - don't sleep on Retrologue for sure, it's actually a pretty beefy synth when you learn all the different features it has!

@@mikeylikes_synths Compression after reverb can be a great way to lift up the tails and subtleties of a sound! The new 'squasher' plugin as well in C12 can be very useful for that!

@@VenusTheory Thanks, I intend to look into Retrologue, and have been playing around a lot with Padshop 2, also an amazingly versatile instrument. I really love Cubase, and am finding new surprises with it every time I open the program that just make doing a lot of things a lot easier. All the best to you from here in Memphis TN :-)

Where can I find the sample that you used in REVERANCE? Or I should buy some extra ir files? Moreover is the brass sound and the vocal designer plug-in included in Cubase11 pro? Thanks
@VenusTheory
@VenusTheory 2 года назад
Heyo! Not sure, I think this was either one of my personal sample packs or maybe some free pack somewhere. Check out Musicradar's SampleRadar for a ton of awesome free samples that can work great as IR files! Using drums as IRs on other drums (or melodic elements) can bring out some really interesting timbres and spice things up. The VocalSynth plugin is a third-party plugin from iZotope. I tried to stick to only Cubase plugins for this series as much as possible, but there wasn't really any equivalent so I had to use an external effect for that bit.
