Excuses! I’m sorry being white is holding you back…but look on the white side I mean bright side…. You can always be a fireman or a cop… I already know you too soft for the military.
@@HamzaIbrahim-jg1wj That's wholly untrue. By its very nature affirmative action enables incompetence which by effect requires less effort from individuals of one ethnicity over another. *You still have to work **_less_** hard than other colours.*
Essays are probably the most important because while the admin officer is going over your app they are getting to know who YOU are from reading them, grades are just a filter
Another thing is that they are looking for diverse background, even though she is white, my sister was went to Yale. We are from southwest Virginia. There are not a lot of people applying from this area, and it is rather poor, so it increases their diversity.
Im from southern West Virginia and looking to get into one - financial aid matters a lot for me, though. Ive got a 1500+ SAT, play multiple sports, and take just about the hardest classes I can (anywhere from 1-3 people in some of my classes) so I think I have a decent chance.
Dude, I just graduated from my engineering program, nobody cares what school you went to when you start working. That’s called the real world, there are people who went to state & lesser schools who are higher earning than plenty of Ivy League graduates, don’t get yourself hyped up over a school, your mission is to get your degree & leave, that is all, if you make friends while doing it, cool, but that’s not a priority.
@@Lemurai Yeah, even if you go to Harvard, if you get a degree in philosophy you are still not too likely to make it very far. I think people who go to top colleges typically end out better than people who get the same degree in lower level colleges, but the difference shouldn't be much. The debt is often not worth it either.
You’ll be fine at a state school, trust me. When you’re at a job, nobody cares what university you graduated from, all they care about is can you do the job that makes the company more money lol! I got my engineering degree from Clemson & have worked with guys who went to Cornell & MIT, they didn’t make more or less than I did & honestly our director made no distinction between us. He just needed bodies to work, which is pretty much the reality check many of you trying to get into these expensive schools need. The world honestly doesn’t care, to get into Ivy League is more of a personal vanity project.
How does this work for international students? I'm a British student and I was thinking of applying to Harvard for fun. I wouldn't have taken it if I got an offer since the costs are astronomical compared to what we have in the UK, but it would have been interesting to see if I got in.
@@Steven_Bo1 I got into Oxford, which is ranked higher than Harvard in the Times Higher Education ranking, so I'm not sure why I wouldn't. I also got an offer from all my other choices.
@@Steven_Bo1 White, Male. But that doesn't really make any difference to the success outcome of your application. In the UK that info is actually not disclosed to the University before they make their shortlist. I don't think Harvard would have gotten any of that info either if I applied under the UK system (UCAS). They get it after you get an interview, since they'll see you.
I think you should tell people the importance of starting early. I attended a prestigious college but could have done a lot better if I knew about these factors...say...the first day of high school.
Universities have been getting a lot of flak for accepting a majority white and Asian students, those students are judged harder on their scoring than other races... Because like, equality or something
Lie on your ethnicity thing. I don’t care. If you’re Asian, you’re in a tough spot. So LIEEEEEE. If schools can play stupid games, so can you❤️ you’re not taking the spot of anyone. Don’t worry about that. Go on and lie your little heart out. They don’t care about you, stop caring about them. Give it right on back.
Affirmative action. Basically, they don’t have enough African American, Native American, or Mexican American students in Ivy leagues so the schools makes it easier for them to get in with a lower scores. You need a higher score if you’re Asian though because there’s too many Asians. Yea it’s pretty racist.
