Hey josh this sounds crazy but I'm actually in HS and I've been given the opportunity to give a ted talk about what a teen like myself can do to get into their dream school or my other option would be on affirmative action. As a side hobby i love researching college admission tips and secrets and so i know a ton even though this sounds ridiculous. Anyways, would the college admission ted talk be a bad idea because I'm scared it could make everything i did in high school seem like i did it just to create a certain image to an admissions officer. Please help

I have a question about extracurriculars. My district has 2 programs where we could take college classes at Yale for free with no tuition. Are those extracurriculars? Each of these classes are taken once a week for part of or the whole year. Are taking college classes weekly and extracurricular activities?

are you suppose to list things that you will do senior year? for example, i was voted NHS secretary at the end of my junior year and will do it senior year so do I put that down even though I technically haven't done anything yet.

I definitely had multiple spikes! It's completely ok, just make sure you make them visible in your application!

I am entering high school in the fall and my dream school is Yale, and should I focus all my extra curricular activities on one thing, for me, it would be performing arts. Any advice on how I would be able to focus on that?

Definitely have some depth to you ECs, but my biggest piece of advice is to do what you love :)

Would you recommend listing an activity on the common app that you only did for one/two years? I did rowing in 9th grade and half of 10th but switched to track and field right after and have been really involved in that ever since. Thanks!

If you have space for it in your activities, I would definitely recommend putting it there.

Did you like answering the yale supplemental questions? I mean, what would you contribute to a residential college bothers me considering everyone will say the same thing. thoughts?

My advice for the supplemental questions is to not be afraid to be weird when answering them. A lot of students will provide similar answers, but if your's is unique you'll be more memorable.

I wish I could do more, I’m currently in a program called early college high school, so basically I am doing four years of high school along with two years of college, by the time I Graduate high school I will also have an associates degree. But I feel I need to do more to get into a school like Yale, but with high school I already have most of my time busy(they only offer advanced classes btw), can anyone tell me what I should do or if I should worry too much?

I think they will already be impressed at the early college classes you took, but maybe fit in extracurriculars during the summer. You could do volunteer work or something like that and explain that you dont have much extra time during the school year.

You mentioned violin. Well for me, I have music(saxpohone,piano and clarinet). But do you have to win awards/competitions for these instruments? I don't really have time for competitions but I possess skill in these instruments.

I know this video is kind of old, but I’d love to get a response. I am from Germany and actually visited Yale a couple of years ago. I just graduated high school at 17 and founded my first start up during my gap year. Lots of people tell me that in order to get onto Yale, you need to do more than that. What’s you take on this? It’s been a dream of mine to get into Yale

state level soccer captain. (winner) highschool soccer team captain (winner 2 times) state level debate (gold) member of youth parliament school's orator of the year Coach of school's junior soccer team District level speech winner (5 years) extempore speech winner (3years) science and english olympiad international rank holder -top 150 (if it counts as ec) but na brother. My father doesn't have enough income to send me abroad. I wish i could somehow could achieve my dream school in u.s

Thanks for posting all the videos, it has helped me a lot though the college preparation process. Would it be possible to ask for your advice on a special situation? I just transferred schools junior and senior year, so I did not have the opportunity to start any clubs at school or participate in athletics. What do you think I should do now, as a senior, to make up for the lack of school-related extracurriculars? Thank you so much!

Hi Josh Im planning to aply to Yale to so I need Ur Advice. I want to do some extra activities to fulfil my aplication but Im so busy with all preparations for TOEFL and generaly all aplying proces is time consuming thats why I can not find a time for extra activities thats why Im thinking about one treak here it is (as i have to aply afyer one month I want to do different activities by duaration not longer then 1-2 week by this way i can do many of them instead of one ) so what do u think will my plan work for university and will i be acepted to university or not ???????

Hi, i know i'm a bit late but i have a question, what if my school doesn't have any extra-curriculars? I know that sounds a bit weird but it's true, there aren't a lot of schools that have extra-curriculars where i'm from and any clubs that aren't part of school are quite expensive. Any advice?

I run a tabla class it’s an Indian classical instrument at my Hindu temple(that’s where you can run different activities) and I’m very much passionate about music I did one year of marching band my freshman year and I also took choir the same year as well as my sophomore year but as a club because I didn’t have room in my schedule, planning to take it my junior year also so would this be impressive to colleges and be that spike? Pls answer thanks btw I did Mock trial my sophomore year and will do it junior year too
