This video shows how to program your controller from the stock display to get a 25% bump in power...the maximum you can get. Go from 800watts to well over 1000watts.

@@mfrere Wondering if setting it at 18 or even 17 will still give me a nice bump over what the default wattage setting is (15/20..?), peaking at around 1000 or so, but save some battery life per trip instead of doing it at 19 and peaking at 1250.. it's definitely nice to have that power, but I might be willing to sacrifice an increment or two of that if it means i wont drain the battery as quick. Thoughts?

Holy smokes it actually worked... something on RU-vid actually worked!! I have a 2020 Yukon 750 and actually it was set 15 amps from the factory and I, like you, moved it to 20 based on all my research about the controller and it didn't do anything i.e. I didn't notice any extra power. and the power reading on the LCD peaked at 780 ish. But when I changed it to 19amps I noticed a difference in the torque and the power reading on the LCD was just as it was shown here was over 1000watts and the LCD displayed 999. I wanted to make sure it wasn't just my imagination and wishful thinking that it had more power so I did a small test to verify what I was feeling was correct. I ran the bike on grass in the park. I did 3 runs set at 20 amps, and 3 runs set at 19 amps and measured my max speed after 50 meters. When set to 20amps I hit a top speed average of 19.2 km/h throttle only in 50 meters. When set up at 19amps, top speed average over the 50meters for 3 runs was 22.6km/h. This means that the bike got up to speed faster which is exactly the point. You're not going to go faster in terms of top speed, you're going to have more torque and get to top speed faster. Thanks Mike!!! I don't know how you found that out but happy that you did.

We have 2 Yukon 750's I followed your steps and this absolutely increased the torque on my bike, I left my wife's bike "stock". I have rode both bikes back to back, and mine is quicker, throttle only and with pedal assist. Definitely happy with 9 PAS, 5 PAS in this mode would be way too "torquey". Question, in password protect settings, 26' in tires or 28" make a difference in top speed? We are in the USA with a fresh charge, lights off, flat pavement, tire pressure up, no wind, 175 LB rider, PAS 9, 7th gear, giving it all I got pedaling, I can hit 25.5 MPH (41 KPH) Then there seems to be a drag or pulling a parachute feeling, is the speed limiter giving this sensation? Even going down a slight hill, I can not go faster, the drag prevents it. Thanks a bunch for this info. I look forward to any insight.
@mfrere

Wheel size just changes the calculations made by your display, it wont make it any faster. You cannot increase top speed of a stock bike. You would need to go to a 52V battery to increase speed. The top speed setting will only be used to shut down power to the motor if met...it won't slow you down. Hope this helps.

indeed that is deceiving. their website currently states 750w PEAK power. Peak is the key word here. usually motors are called 500w or 750w based on their average power output. so usually 750w motor state they peak around 1000-1100w. it is very deceiving and dishonest of them, thank you for having pointed this out to me. i'd imagine they only have a 500w motor as that's the maximum legal power for ebikes in canada without having to register/get a license, but they name it the 'yukon 750' to appeal to the american market >.>

@mfrere
@mfrere 2 года назад
The battery will provide the current (power in watts) requested by the controller until the low voltage cut off level is reached (I think it's around 43v). Beyond that, the level of charge should not affect it. However, the level of charge does affect speed (not power). Your Yuk will go faster when fully charged (53v) then will slowly decrease until drained. So voltage affects speed and current affects power.

@mikefrere1545

Covered in other comments, but I think you need to be more specific with your questions with Volt. Like "where does it say in your warranty that this setting voids it?". Or "Why would you have the instructions to make this change on your website and manual if it could damage the bike?". And finally "Why would you not install a 15A controller instead of a 20A if its too strong for the motor?". The reality is that the motor can handle the current in prolonged bursts (controller won't deliver continuous 19A or 1Kw anyway). Finally, they do not have the capability to determine if you've done this change if you change it back to 15A and motors can go for various reasons. I've been running 19A for a year and the motor and controller don't even get hot.

@mfrere
@mfrere Год назад
Total power output for legality is a bit of a strange thing. Even at stock Canadian settings the bike can output more than 700watts in bursts. Top speed should be the real spec and part of the law. Doing this setting change doesn't change the top speed, just the time it takes to get there. The change is noticable, but not a crazy difference as you are still operating at manufacturers and component specs.

This is the reason I didn't buy the Volt Nitro. Quite a few other Canadian companies like Rize and Biktrix factory set their bikes to go 32kmh like the Volts, but you can increase the speed up to 40 by going into the settings. What's even stranger is that you but electric kick scooters from Canadian retailers that go well over 50kmh. My electric skateboard goes 45kmh. Still, this is a neat hack, but not what I was hoping for. 😞
@noliftebikeracks8159
@noliftebikeracks8159 3 года назад
This setting change is about increasing torque...does nothing for top speed as that's determined by voltage. So you're top speed won't change, but it will get there faster with this change. With a full charge to 54V, I get 37Kph on flats, throttle only, no wind, warm temps. I easily get over 40Kph with some peddling and it can pump out over a kilowatt in spurts. Can't speak to the Nitro, it's a different animal. The Yukon is not really about speed...fat tires, heavy ,etc. So it depends what you want to do with it.
@nicholasbrassard3512
@nicholasbrassard3512 3 года назад
@@noliftebikeracks8159 this seems to be a misconception by those who haven't studied electricity. But voltage in and of itself is simply a difference of potential energy and only regulates speed in as much as an increase in voltage results in an increase of power (Watts). Ohms law; Voltage x Amperage = Wattage (power). So an increase in voltage OR amps increases power and thus speed. If the speed doesn't increase along with the power it's because they have limited the speed somewhere in the programming or that's simply the top speed the bike can achieve with the available power.

@TheCanadaknows
@TheCanadaknows 4 года назад
It would be dependent on the control. Your motor if it's the same as this Yukon then you could increase it. It's just dependent on the amps and volts. So what your battery can give ya and the control. For the Yukon it's 48 volt x 15 amps =720 the 500 watts would be 36 volts x 15 amps

Depends where you live (see ebikebc.com/electric-bike-regulations-in-canada/) But this power adjustment doesn't increase the top speed of your bike, just makes it quicker to get up to speed if you demand it. Voltage is directly related to speed, while current is directly related to torque. Watts is both (VxA). So they are both important. If the battery voltage is down around 43v, you won't get the 1000 watts out of it. The point of the video is to show that the setting change to 19A actually works (because 20A doesn't do anything).
