Feeding babies and toddlers is HARD! Parenting at the table is hard, especially if you grew up being bribed to eat or with other mealtime pressures. My new course ✨FUSS-FREE FIRST FOODS (link below) helps you break that cycle so you can confidently and respectfully raise a healthy, happy eater with a strong parent-child bond.
⭐⭐⭐⭐Watch the free video and enroll in my FUSS-FREE FIRST FOODS course: bit.ly/FussFreeFirstFoods ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The youngest kiddo in my last small coaching group was 20mo and the mom asked in our last call "will things get harder as he gets older?" All the other moms who have kids aged 3-8 said they wished they'd done a program like this when their child was that young to avoid all the stress and problems they've had for years!
The Fuss Free-First Foods course is incredibly comprehensive so you're empowered to parent at mealtimes, from food throwing, schedules, baby led weaning, purees, tantrums, high chairs, baby recipes, brushing teeth, picky eating, milk, transitioning off milk, snacks, pouches/puffs, and meltdowns. Fuss-Free First Foods has it all!

Is your little baby not eating much yet? Maybe they're not swallowing all that much or perhaps they spit their food out and make funny faces? What to do when your baby isn't eating...
I'm going to break it down and talk about the feeding guidelines:
-What age to start solids?
-What if your doctor says to start before 6 months?
This video has some practical tips for what you can do and what you are in control of to help your baby. If you want help implementing my feeding methods and preventing picky eating problems read about my Mealtimes Without Meltdowns course {link below}
I hope you find this video helpful and learn something, but also (more importantly) feel less stressed!
Please remember to always supervise your baby or child while they're eating

Thank you so much for your video! 🙌🏼 My baby is 8 months old and we started BLW when she was 6. In the beginning, she was eating more, but when she turned 7 months, she seemed to have lost interest in eating. She plays with food more than she eats it, which is so frustrating as is doesn’t feel like she is progressing. Still, I’m persisting every day and giving her a variety of flavours, textures and types of food. After watching your video, I realised that there is much that she is learning than “simply” eating. This gives me motivation to keep going. ☺️

Hi and that's wonderful you're reframing your mindset! Keep an eye on things because it's a crucial time to not only introduce lots of foods and flavors safely, but also set yourself up to be equipped for the more challenging behaviors of feeding including food throwing, food refusal, and when you baby becomes a toddler and starts saying 'no'. This helps you avoid picky eating, power struggles, and frustration for both you and baby. If you notice things not improving or getting harder, I'd recommend you take a look at the the online video course I created in response to my private clients telling me they wish they'd known how to avoid the years of power struggles when their child was littles as opposed to when the picky eating became ingrained and so much harder to reverse as an older child. Fuss-free First Foods, it's a complete roadmap to navigating solids, milk, schedules, behaviors like refusing foods and how to feed responsively from starting solids throughout childhood. Please let me know if you've got more questions after reviewing the course and FAQ. bit.ly/FussFreeFirstFoods

THANK YOU! My 8.5 month old is giving us a hard time, but having watched your video, I realize that it's not him but me and my wife that have been giving ourselves a hard time. We started with purees around 5.5 months old, first fruits then veggies. Never really showed that much of an appetite for it but he was eating, even if it were 2 or 3 teaspoons (sometimes more, sometimes less). Around 7 months old he refused to take anything from a spoon anymore, pursing his lips together and turning his face away any time a spoon would come near him and cry and complain. So now we do baby-led weaning and yes, it seems as if I've replaced my electric veggie chopper with the baby, because that's all we get back: the food diced up and spit out in the bib, and the rest all over the place and on the floor. Watching him eat but not eat, and the resulting mess and cleanup, can be frustrating, but it shouldn't be, and your video really helps to put that into perspective. Still difficult though :)

@@chamlee9515 A bit more, maybe. Still takes a few spoons and then starts screaming/wanting to get out of the high chair if I take the spoon near him. But put the food in front of him on the tray and he takes most of it. Still doesn't swallow everything and chews and spits out, but I've noticed he's swallowing a bit more. Actually, sometimes he just swallows without chewing, like yesterday when I was giving him sweet potato wedges.

@@Bagipg Mine's still not great at eating purees. But he's eating more these days and there are certain dishes he loves. It's also not as messy of an affair anymore, so that makes it a lot easier. Still, he's not the greatest eater. I think the key is to keep trying new things, different tastes and shapes and colours and forms, and keep at it every day without getting stressed or sad or angry or disappointed. Thank you my baby had to get a blood transfusion because his blood and iron levels were so low. He is 10 months old, was born 6 weeks premature and exclusively breastfed since 1 month old. He doesn't open up to eat food from a spoon even when I started feeding him solids at 6 months (per pediatrician orders). So I've gone the baby led weaning route but the issue is getting more volume in. He only eats a couple-or three- strings of meat on a good day. He's either turning his head away, playing with his food, taking a quick nibble from my finger or drinking what I was able to dilute/blend in his straw sippy cup before realizing it's not his 2 oz of water. He's now on iron supplement as of today for 30 days. I thought "food before 1 is fun" but it's more like "food before 1 isn't just for fun" :( . Thanks for the tips, I'll sit down and eat with him more and give him more food to get messy with, I'll keep trying.

Hi! I’m glad you have this video Q & A. I hope you can answer my question. My baby will be turning 9m next week and I’ve noticed that she’s been refusing to sit in her chair for lunch or dinner time but breakfast time she’s fine and will eat her cereal. She’s been very good eating her purée since she was 4m old. But during lunch and dinner she refuses but when I give her the food she’ll start to understand what’s we are doing. Her top teeth is starting to come out and seems to always want to eat on her own. I’m just concerned that she might not eat enough cereal that she won’t get enough iron in her meal.

I've been trying to introduce foods to my now 8 month old for a few weeks now (ever since I saw she was finally sitting up well on her own). I went with banana puree the first time and she hated it. She turned her face away after the first spoon and batted at the spoon thereafter. Since then, every single type of food I try to give her (different purees, homemade sweet potatoes, teething wafers, etc) has evoked the same reaction. At some point I just glob the puree onto her high chair tray and let her have at it. She plays with it, almost none makes it into her mouth, and when it does she makes a disgusted face. I do this twice a day. Trying to spoon feed her is very stressful, she turns her face constantly and bats at the spoon. I usually try for a minute and then have to give up because she fiercely rejects it. Giving her the spoon she usually flings it around but avoids getting any food in her mouth. What is left for me to try? Do I continue doing this or is there something better to try?

@ilahens
@ilahens 2 года назад
 @Marissa Santos Sorry I took so long to respond! Nothing worked so instead of increasing the negative experiences with her I decided to accept it temporarily and exclusively breast fed until 1 (MANY people do this I found out, and it has benefits too!) at which point I tried a baby-led-weaning approach (I put cut up bits of various foods on her tray and let her feed herself if she wanted to). Even at one it was a struggle to get her to try anything, but an odd hero showed up - a Cheeto she took from my hand that captivated her sight and she found delightful. At this point we entered a phase where she basically subsisted only on Cheetos and breast milk, and the Cheetos were a Godsend actually because it opened the door to other foods and textures. Eventually she tried yogurt and I made sure it was the highest calorie whole milk version I could find. Then she accepted mac n cheese, extremely soft bits of slow cooked meat, and very little by little we kept finding things she would eat (mandarins berries etc). She’s 2.5 now and is just average kind of picky. She now not only lets me feed her but demands it for certain foods. It feels wonderful to be able to feed her now after so much rejection. She does still take forever to eat, and we do let her watch cartoons during mealtime (gasp! - but it was another tool that worked really well despite all the advice against it!). That stage was sooo difficult for me - I cried so much, prayed so hard, threw out insane amounts of food. I even took an expensive online course called Meal Works which is all about baby/toddler feeding problems and then had to throw out 90% of the advice and go with my mom gut. It was a good knowledge base but everyone’s journey is unique. The main thing I learned that was useful from that course is to NEVER pressure them to eat, ever. It will multiply whatever problem may be there. Try to make food as positive an experience as possible. And try anything, even what may seem like junk could be the gateway to normalized eating just a little bit later.

Our baby had to start solids very early bcs he had dropped too drastically on the weight chart but didnt tolerate formula. It saved our breastfeeding journey really bcs it enabled the milk I produce to be enough when coupled with solids! (Plus i did increase my supply!) But even tho my LO began eating at a younger age than you're speaking of, this was still such a helpful video! I'm subscribing and eager to hear future videos on it. I have a question... I live in India and we value spices. But as an american I know the risks of allergies. And my sister has an allergy to cinnamon. My question is how and when do I introduce flavors such as herbs and spices? Which ones do I avoid and which ones can I introduce? And what precautions? I see you talk about flavoring kids food a lot on IG and have had this question a long time now but this video triggered me to type it all out!! Hope it makes sense Thanks again for such quality content

Now she is 8 months and we are still on first foods because I want her to be able to finish one jar of food without a problem before I move her to second foods. She is formula fed now but was breast fed until 5 months old. I have noticed that she is spitting up a lot more now since adding foods. I wonder how to know if it is the food or the bottle or something else.

Hi! That sounds like it's stressful and you're absolutely doing a wonderful job. Re going to new foods, it's really important to offer a variety rather than expecting them to get to the end of a jar, they're still learning and exploring. You'll feel a lot more confident navigating this with tools to positively parent at the table AND prevent picky eating using my methods. The sooner you get started means less frustration and anxiety later. A lot of parents later on tell me that feeding their child is their number one frustration and it drives a wedge between them and their child. The way I'll help you communicate with your child helps foster a respectful, strong parent/child relationship. Please let me know if you've got more questions after reviewing the course and FAQ. bit.ly/FussFreeFirstFoods

Apart from that she only wanted yoghurt. Nothing else until now. I tried to dip my purées in the yoghurt and feed her. Sometimes she will eat most times she won’t. How do I overcome this. Thanks in advance

My baby is 10 months old. We struggle with feeding her. We try and eat as family but since she was 6months.. her eating hasnt been good. She only seems to like rice cereal (cerelac). We try BLW.. but all food ends up on the floor, walls anywhere else but her mouth. She puts a lot of things in her mouth but not food. She has lost weight but her doctor says her weight is nothing to worry about at the moment. She used to be chubby before... she was also exclusively breastfed. Still breast feeds but now less and less. I am worried sick.

That sounds really stressful for you and your baby and its great you want to make positive changes so early on. The best thing you can do is get ahead of it NOW by using responsive feeding practices. I cannot tell you how many parents I speak to with 3, 4, or 7 year olds that started struggling when their child was a baby and they could've easily gotten on the right track with some simple tweaks. Getting the tools to positively parent at the table using my philosophy to help make mealtimes responsive right from the start means less frustration and anxiety later. The way I'll help you communicate with your child helps foster a respectful, strong parent/child relationship.
