How to Get my U.S. Passport in ONE DAY! | Same Day Passport (2023) 

So just went through this today and I was shocked how easy it was. This video is very helpful but I think maybe some things have changed now that the State Department is back from COVID backlog so will share my experience. Sorry to be long winded but I was stressing a lot before so want to provide as much detail. Made an appointment by phone 13 days ago for renewal as my passport expired summer 2019. That was honestly the toughest part. Just keep calling until you get the right person to get you booked, just make sure when you call you are in the 14 day travel window. I actually changed my flight after I got the appointment. This part is a bit confusing to me still. When I made the appointment I was set to travel the day after but regardless of when you tell them on the phone, doesn't seem to really matter the exact date ultimately as long as it is within 14 days of your appointment, not when you call. So when I called they said I had to be traveling in the next 14 days from when I made the call but once I changed my flight after I got the appointment it was technically 18 days. Basically once you get an appointment you are good as long as it's within 14 days of the day you go in. Want to stress though from what I observed the closer the better cause they will make you priority. If this is confusing, it is for me still kind of cause they didn't ask me anything. Anyway, I went to the DC office today on 19th St. (I live in Baltimore so I'm lucky to be able to just take the train there, with such few locations tough for a lot of people to do this). I had an 8 a.m. appointment. Get there early to be safe, there is a security check-in as it is a government building. Nothing crazy, basically like you get at a football game. You can fill the form out there by hand if you need to. They have them as you walk up to check-in. Check-in was pretty quick even with a little line. Clerk took my application, old passport, travel itenerary and license. She gave me a ticket and said wait to be called. I got called in less than ten minutes, went to another window where you pay the fee, mine was actually only $190. She was super nice, and gave me a confirmation ticket to come back at 11:30 to pick it up. This all seemed too easy. I was out of that process in about 20 minutes. Went and got breakfast, walked around blah blah.. until it was 11:30. I assumed at this point I would be waiting a while cause it couldn't be this simple. I checked through security again, went to the pickup window gave them the confirmation receipt and they gave me another ticket and said sit and wait to be called. Maybe five minutes later I got called and she handed me an envelope with my old and new passport. I couldn't believe it honestly. I spent maybe 30 minutes total in the place. I was not the only person shocked, I joked with a few people about it and heard people thanking the workers so much for making it easy. I was not asked a single question about my travel. I can't guarantee that as the case for everyone but I was pretty worried for nothing. I have had so many annoying interactions with government agencies (looking at you USCIS) but this was so seamless. Have your stuff ready and as long as you clear the background check you should be all good. Get an early appointment if you can, there were way more people when I came back at 11:30 so that seems to have helped me a lot but the windows were still moving quickly from what I saw. Show up on time, have your appointment conformation number ready and all your documents. Be friendly and make their job easy and they will make your process easy. Now I'm off to Ethiopia! I got my passport 3 days ago, and I was excessively rewatching this video beforehand. This is the best video I’ve seen on passport information:) I went to the New Orleans agency, and at least for me, the only thing that was different is they didn’t ask me why I was traveling. I was restating what I was going to tell them in my head 20 times, and all they did was ask me to do a pledge, and it really is as simple as he states lol. Make the appointment, have your documents and fees, and with that I got it in 4 hours! Good luck!!!! Thanks!

Thanks to you, I was able to secure the appointment at the closest agency.(30mins. drive from home) My daughter needs her passport(just expired a few days ago) and we're traveling internationally within 14 days. I made a call at 7:59:00 a.m today. I had to navigate through some automated voice prompts (I think it was 1. En or Sp, 2. have you applied or not, 3. traveling within 14 days or not) then was put on hold for a minute or so, then I got connected right away around 8:00:30 a.m. or so.They gave me 4 different time slots for the day before the travel and I took the earliest one. I received the confirmation email as I was speaking to a agent at 8:06am. I pray that everyone who watches your video can get their passports in time.

Great information. I’ve been passing on your nuggets. It’s mind blowing to see so many ig pages charging people to book an appointment when that is totally free. Just this week alone I’ve called 3 times trying to change appointments since I’m in Texas and was dealing with this crazy weather got through each time.

Update: I’m doing this right now. The site does say it’ll let you print the form and fill it out in black ink. Also, we booked ours online and they sent confirmation emails and texts to confirm.

Just to let everyone know that agencies that expedite passports are not in every city. The only agency that expedites passports in Florida is in Miami. Wish I would’ve known that.

You forgot to mention you need the actual birth certificate along with a copy of front & back. & they didn’t ask me where I was going nor when I was planning to travel. I guess Cali is different.

9/2023- I have called 4 times with no wait and very easy to call. I tried to call a couple days before my 14 days and was told to call back. On the proper day, I callled around 10 am and got an appointment immediately 3 days before my trip. Luckily I’m on the east coast and they’re more offices available but they will make the appointment at the closest to you.

This is so damn frustrating!!! My family and I are traveling to Romania a week from today and we still don’t have my daughters passport We applied for it in March! They said it would take 8-11 weeks to be processed and it is still “in process” today We started calling within the 14 day window and every time we speak to someone they simply say that there are no appointments anywhere. We paid for expedited processing and shipping and still nothing At this point I’m more than willing to go to anywhere in the country to get her passport as long as I can get an appointment One thing I’ve failed to do is calling at 8am eastern (which is 5am my time in California) I will try this, I see you mentioned calling that early due to the limited slots available Grandma is not doing well, she has cancer and this is the only window of time between chemo that we can travel and to think that my daughter cannot go and on this trip is heartbreaking Aside from this - is there anything else you recommend for me to do?

nato jacobs thanks for the comment and thx to timus both very helpful. Nato I wanted to clarify about changing your flight BEFORE your appt. We called and were given the passport appt. In L.A. 60mins drive 👍🏼 but the appt is the morning We Depart!! They gave us a 7am appt and our plane leaves at 12:30!!! I’m a bit nervous about changing my flight prior to my appt because it wont be the flight I originally stated it is!! ( think they record conversations?!?!) We were also told that “its at the discretion of the agent to determine when exactly ( my daughter, its for her) will get her passport. In other words there’s no guarantee she’ll get it that morning, much less on time to drive 20 more minutes to LAX n check in to flight!! This is soo stressful!! Don’t know if I should change my flight now or wait till that morning when we know that we’ll miss our flight for sure?!?! Kill me now!!😂

I’m traveling 8/11, they said the first available appointment is 8/11, and I need to drive to New Orleans, 500 miles away… I’m 100 miles from the Atlanta office, which is booked out until December…. Uh …….folks this is a joke….

Hi Timus, thanks for this info. Do you have to fill out the form before calling? On their website it states 14 days if you haven’t applied or 5 days if you’ve already applied. I’m not sure if they mean filling out and submitting this form before calling means call within 5 days from your travel date or if it’s not filled out before calling, 14 days.

damn..😂 it took me 8 months mainly because i had to send in more documentations half way trough the process.. but if only i seen this video first

They require the expedite fee and they will not book an appointment until after you pay the fee then you have to wait 3 business days and call back if passport is not received. After that, then they will look in to an appointment schedule.

Great and very informative video. I did the renewal online process. I paid for expedited processing and shipping. It’s a work in progress. Still waiting for the passport to be printed and shipped. Did you have to pay a fee to expedite with this method?

I’m so nervous… I booked my passport appointment when the expedited return time was 5-7 weeks and when I got to the appointment they changed it to 7-9 weeks 😭. The 7th week is a week before my trip. I pray I either get my passport or I’m able to get an appointment at an agency with the influx of passport applicants now.

Hey thank you for the video! Just wanted to clarify, you can only do this when your flight is 4 days away or less? Or 2 weeks? If I have a flight in the next 6 weeks or so should I try doing just expedited mail or just wait until my flight is closer and do this process?

Why are there agencies in big cities offering this service for $700-$1000 on top of the fees you pay to the govt? Do these agencies have some advantage in getting the appointments or what is the reason to go with one of them over doing it yourself?

Hey thanks for the info, so I just missed my flight today to meet my wife who I haven't seen in a whole year. so what's my best option. I tried calling them and they had no appointments available for the next 6 days, but just called and asked and there is one two weeks away (14 days). so do you think I just keep calling and see if there is one sooner? and how does the flight ticket work? does it have to be 14 days away or can it be longer and still be fine?

Mine is still in processing due to a typo but corrected now. Well I do not live near one so that means I will have to drive hours just to do this and I got 2 weeks left now so i would definitely end up spending way more money to get it now but tks!

I tried this today because because they advised me to call on Monday, since I travel on Sunday. Today I called at 7:59am EST, and they told me there are no appointments all over the country. I told them I needed to see my grandmother so we needed the kids passport it's been 10 weeks since the agency received the renewal application. The lady told me that unless I have proof that my grandmother has Alzheimer's then she can't help me. So I got my aunt who is a doctor to do that but now I feel guilty because I won't be visiting my grandmother. Do you have any advice on what to do? I lost hope. You make it sound so simple 😢

I was able to get an appointment but they were not able to issue me the passport that day due to being too busy. They told me I would receive my passport by mail by tmr which is Friday but right now my application status is still in process. My flight is on the 15th which is only 4 days away and they don't deliver on Sundays, so with that said it's not a guarantee that you can get your passport the same day even if you are able to get an appointment in time.

I have not received the passports for three of my children. I'm stuck on the part where I'm just trying to get the appointment tbh, I’ve called the passport agency several times at 8am even lol, and they have said to keep calling everyday to get a seat for an appointment. I guess my travel is too far out to be considered an “emergency” or “urgent” but even if I qualified to make said appointment, the passport agency even told me the seats for these appointments are super limited and fill up fast so an appointment isn’t even guaranteed. Hello, Friday I called because my trip is on the 22nd of June, I paid an additional 19 dollars to overnight it. So far it’s Tuesday and my status online still states “ In Process” .plus the overnight fee has not been taking from my account. I am stressed 😥
