Something we talk about a lot is the importance of creating personal work, especially if you want to work as a professional photographer. The type of work that you create and then put out either on your website or social feeds, in turn, is the work you are going to attract.
What we did in this video is show you an example of putting together your own team, to create images that a brand would look at and think, yes - let's hire this person. We talk about working with a modeling agency, getting a model, using a hair and makeup pro, working with a stylist, and then execute the shoot.
It's so easy to come up with excuses, like 'I don't have the money to hire a model or pay a makeup artist' or I don't have access to a stylist, I don't have a location or studio. But those are all excuses. The best way to head a certain direction in your career is to start. You have to start somewhere.
If your budget is the excuse, I'm sure you can find a friend that could work as a model. Possibly you have a stylish friend that could come and style the shoot, or another friend that could do the hair and makeup. Build your own team and create work together that you're all proud of.
Be thoughtful about it. Take some time to sit down and think through an idea. Scroll through instagram or Pinterest and create a mood board or a theme but we strongly encourage you to do it. Book a date for yourself on the calendar to give it a deadline and just start.
We hope this is encouraging. Let us know how it challenged you and what you're starting to create.
Thanks for being a part of this awesome community.

@@FilmSupplyClub I really appreciate what you've done here. In my honest opinion it seems like it would make a fantastically awesome series of videos. We've all watched the camera reviews on the m6, hasselblad and pushing film etc. But what the community really loved from the Club was this beautiful mindset training on how to manifest the lifestyle we all claim to develop. Deep down we all know we just maybe haven't been working hard enough, the right way and in the right direction. This video showed me that I was operating photographically in the niche that was taking me the wrong direction. I'm not personally into provocative photography of ladies model shoots any this helped me get in the right lane. By far the best photography video.... part two...how to get in your lane/niche and manifest passionate photography... love y'all man from ATL 👊🏿🖤👊🏿

Why don't RU-vidrs never talk about how to actually get work and get paid. For instance, find work through craigslist or direct messaging Instagram fashion designers, or cold calling business owners. The network of people a photographer surrounds themselves with is where the money is at. I really enjoyed this video but why not actually talk about how to get paid. Why is the subject of money so difficult to talk about?

This is a hard subject to do a video about… I’m not totally convinced even though you made it very nice to look at and listen to… Because you’re sharing a shooting style that’s been kinda overdone over the last decade and yeah brands love it but now a days can you tell one photographer from another using it? If you can please let me know how you do that. Years ago I used to shoot my friends for their modeling or acting portfolios except I didn’t know much in the way of preparing for/visualizing shoots. “Just get out and shoot” is the easy answer everyone says… Then everyone typically chases the similar kinda shots/style like backlit or 45 degree sun and then the viewer doesn’t really know who does what style best because everyone tries to master the backlit daylight shots that high end brands love… I feel like we all need to expand and shoot a little less of this and brands need to be open to other styles that haven’t been touched on as much. This is one reason why Idk if I’d be a good brand photographer because how do you shoot this kinda shot and make it your own that brands come to you for and others have a harder time achieving? I’m sorry but I have to be honest but if I saw your shots next to some friends of mine who shoot lifestyle type wedding shots I’m not sure if I’d know where the lines between photographers is drawn… But interesting topic to bring up! Thank you.
