Okay this is awesome. I looked at doing the same thing with the same bike so glad to see someone else.going the same route. I did see one user who used a zoom actually stick their sound recorder in a tail bag.
Thanks for sharing mate! This is a really cool vid and that helps new guys like me to make a more informed decision when spending money. Just one question, when editing you can merge the thow sounds right? i mean the sound inside your helmet and the sound of the zoom mic that is recording the exhaust? somehow find the sweet spot where you can have a "clean" voice and also a nice exhaust sound....best of both worlds :)
That sounds pretty much perfect! Got a 2002 CBR 600F4i and a 2019 Tracer 900 GT that I want to record the exhaust along with my gopros, so will be getting the new Zoom H4N Pro Black Edition, an XLR to AUX adapter and a deadcat windshield because of this video. Thanks for the advice!
Yeah you just have to play with mic position more than anything. It took me ages to nail it but if you see some of my latest videos it’s about as good as it can be in a helmet
Mate…. I have been struggling for about a year with my sound on my videos just making them music ones lol . I have an external audio recorder other than the brand you have and those wireless rode mics. Never thought to compare them!!!! Sound from helmet with a purple panda mic hooked up onto the recorder. Brilliant!!! Thanks so much for sharing this video mate!!! Much appreciated from Arizona USA PS. Now she can’t say don’t ride Now it’s EXACTLY what I’ll do🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Cheers
Hey love this setup and considering buying the wireless go myself. Have you experienced any signal loss between the receiver on the gopro & transmitter being behind you? Many other reviews have experience signal loss at range without good line of sight, but I hope that might not be an issue when being so close to each other? Thanks a bunch!
Prob me mate. Still learning the synching bit. Was so eager to try it I forgot the clap three times trick. I’ll get better. Sound it improved that’s main thing for this vid. Thanks for commenting. Really appreciate the positivity 🙏
Great sound! Thanks for the video. Did you try other zoom recorders as well? I'm not sure if I should chose the smaller h2n, but compared to all the other motorcycle videos recorded with the h2n or h1n, after watching your video I think the h4n is in advantage. But it's also less handy and maybe positioning is more important than the particular microphones. What do you think?
Have you used the setup to record your audio? I'm having trouble with my audio as my motorcycle basically blows out the speaker anytime I ride (Ducati Panigale V2). Tips? Thoughts?
Yeah but I was still playing with the settings. The gain in the voice input was still too high and it was clipping a bit. Just needed a couple of points lower.
That sounds amazing 🤩 I’ve been using the zoom h1n which is proving hard work with my MT09 it’s clipping all the time under the seat, what sort of gain setting are you using? I think either the zoom h4 or h5 would be perfect for raw audio going by your results
Okay thanks mate, I can definitely see the difference with the H4 though it can handle loud pipes, think the h1 clips over anything 120db 😂 your set up is perfect 👍 I’ve got the wireless DJI so I’ll be doing the same
Hey mate, I have a Roland field recorder, similar to the Zoom. I'm curious.. was the sound coming from your Zoom H4n, or was it coming from the Wireless GO mic? Or did we hear both combined on the video? If you did use the Zoom WITH the GO mic, what does it sound like without the GO? I'm working on my setup at the moment and never actually thought to use my field recorder. I keep buying cheap mics that are just plain crap
I used the wireless go for voice and zoom for external (engine noise). Depends on what you’re after. Often I use a GoPro media mod and simple lav mic if I don’t need to focus on engine noise.
What DB levels are you recording the engine sounds at, or what level would you ideally now? I know Voice audio should be between -12db and -6db, but I have no idea about sound effects
Engine comes through really well. Was considering doing this, thanks for showing me the way! BTW - sounds like there is clipping for the mic, maybe turning down the gain on it can help.
Thanks mate. It was a problem with the old software I used to use (Openshot) it doesn’t handle two audio sources very well. Switched to Da Vinci Resolve now. Much better. Appreciate you watching 🙏
Hi! came here trough an other video. Dont know if it has been mentioned before but the H4N records stereo (left/Right) and this makes the sound switch sides when its centered above the main audio source (your bike). If someones listing trough a more expansive headset/earphones this can sometimes be very annoying. You can counter this by switching the audio track to MONO when doing the final edit. You still get the benefit of stereo recording (audio from multiple angles) but make the listening experience much beter! Great video, love the dry humor. And awesome bike!
Yeah I learned that the hard way mate. Appreciate the advice though. I’m just making this up as I go along 😂 getting decent audio has taken me many months and many hundreds of pounds. It’s a dark art and I’m only half way there 🤦♂️
@@mostlymotorbikes It is!! Gaff and paper tape and a lot of Lav mics are the solution with cars. I buy semi cheap 6 meter lav mics and run them under the bonnet and close the exhaust, run them to a recorder (something like the H4N pro) and later mono them. Cars do have less ambient air noise versus a bike of course! Keep it up!
@@mostlymotorbikes sir, really is it working ? How can be like that, what about wind, how can be disconnect fast speed? Do u think can it be work professional work ,for ex for a tv channel work, sync in edit u say premiere or others, yes it can be, but my wireless. İ got the ulanzi system and automatic buy adaptor too, i bought h6 zoom too, and head microphone i got boya mic 6 meters, finaly i understand that my set up is terrible,
And one more question sir, Where did you embed rode wireless mic on your body, insidr of headhelmet, or inside helmetjacket. This system is so interesting for me,i am talking right now to myself that why i bougt adaotor, and ulanzi system if it works like exactly tht
Hi, nice video 😊. I have a question. Would be very nice if you answer me. I bought zoom H4n poro new, honestly I have no idea🙃, maybe you can tell me a setting tip?🙏🏽. ich fahre eine Ducati 1199s. thanks in advance
Your bike is definitely better than mine, but I’m surprised you didn’t pick up the clunking of the gear box and other general unpleasant mechanical noise?
What input levels did you end up using for the two built in mics, picking up the engine/exhaust sounds? i.e Auto Level/Limiter/some low dB value? So far I have found it tricky to get a setting that still doesn't get distorted because of sheer volume; then too low a setting and there is general microphone hiss near equal to the bike's sounds.
Don’t overthink it. It’s hard to compare as I don’t know where you have the zoom in relation to the noise. All I really did was drastically reduce the gain. Test it out and look at the levels when you rev the engine. It just takes some experimentation.
Because if you use that for the helmet mic, it takes control of the zoom inbuilt mics so you can’t use them to record the engine audio in parallel. The point of the h4n is to be able to capture 2 audio sources at the same time so I can get voice AND clear engine audio together. Need the xlr input for that. It explains that in the video.....
Mostly Motorbikes still, won't it sound muffled though by being inside the bag? I'm stressed that might get it and I won't be able to get the job done properly. Another thought is maybe using a lab mic with windscreen either under the seat or inside the helmet, but I'm not sure if sound is going to be as good..
@@mostlymotorbikes Your video made me go out and buy the h4n pro, and a rode wireless go lol. I just used my H1N on a motorcycle trip, and it absolutely sucked. It was either way to loud, or to quite. It sounded like audio from a gopro 🤦♂️ Really appreciate your video. Your audio sounds absolutely crisp 👌. Could we maybe get a video on how you setup your H4N and the settings? Would be very much appreciated 🙏
Hi Im struggling also getting good external audio and am thinking of going the Tascam DR-05x route (budget limitation won't let me go for the set up you have unfortunately). Im using GoPro Hero 8 and purple panda helmet mike with the media mod and even though its a little distorted am happy at the moment with it. But as always its getting a nice exhaust note that is the challenge. Maybe have a look at my channel and subscribe and we can follow each other as Im only just starting out. Liked you vid BTW
Thanks for subscribing. Try sticking your audio into Audacity and add some effects to it. External recorder is key to getting decent exhaust ultimately. I’ve subscribed back.
